Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (SCBB) Discussion Thread

Interesting! Now is this going to be trailer mounted (Looks attached to the trailer)? I'm curious how the former Cyclone was set up.

The last Cyclone was also attached to the trailer. The ride was placed in a "hole" so to have the ride itself line up with the ground. Never went on it - basically the only SCBB ride I haven't been on!

^Interesting! I'll have to look at my photo a few pages back from my February visit. That ride was pretty forceful and I'm sure this will be just as forceful. First time I rode it I remember some guy almost facing me wouldn't keep himself back against the wall as much as the ride op kept telling him. He then had this look on his face that he was about to hurl...and the ride was just starting to spin up and hadn't even tilted yet.

That hole is from the pool-table themed teacups ride. That ride came from the Santas Village in Santa Cruz, where it was the snowball ride. There were only two models of that particular ride ever made, our Santas Village had the other one. The hole left over from our snowball ride is currently the home of our carousel.

A little random I know, but thats what Thursdays are for.

The more you know...

^ Very cool, I didn't know it was such a rare ride. I do remember there was once an accident on the ride relating to one of the fabric doors, where a girl's foot was somehow impaled upon locking the door. The ride's door were then replaced with more conventional metal doors.

In other news, the old teacups ride is still up for sale!

Any news on when Undertow will arrive or be assembled?

The Boardwalk said Undertow will open in June. They're still waiting for the track pieces to arrive from Germany.

Should be pretty soon, hopefully.

From the Big Kahuna Club newsletter:

I imagine Undertow will start rising very quickly once they start on it.

Yeah, Undertow should shoot up pretty quickly, especially considering its one of Maurer Sohne's off-the-shelf spinning coaster models (XSC2000). And because its at SCBB and not at SFMM (completely different ride than GL, but intensity still varies based on weight balance. Heard about GL being neutered), I think they'll allow insane unbalanced rides.

Ha..good timing. Look what SCBB Just posted on facebook!

The first of many containers arrived from Munich Germany today!! Staging the ride construction in the west section of the Beach Parking Lot. Wishing all the best to our coaster crew for assembling the ride! (We wish them all the best every day! They ROCK!!!) -ds

I hope there's a time lapse video on the construction of Undertow. Did they end up expanding the top deck for Undertow? I think they mentioned about doing that a while back. They'd expand it over the Fright Walk and over that little alleyway where the offices used to be long ago.

Also, the Boardwalk getting a zipline? I don't think that's such a good idea, but we'll see how long it lasts.

Today I went down to the Boardwalk to check out the temporary zip line and see the track for Undertow, and of course get some rides in ( Dipper was running amazing today!)

Undertow: Some of the track has started to arrive and im sure if will be installed in no time. It also looks the break run is all ready constructed, just need to be lifted up onto the former Hurricane platform.

Zip Line: It is indeed a temporary thing, it can fold up like a fair ride and is on a trailer. Being honest here now, I was a little nervous at first as it was freaky just walking off the edge, but once I went down it was a smooth ride until you hit the breaks. It wasn't very fast but for $10 per ride I feel like it was a fair price.

General: The Boardwalk was very busy today ( Spring Break crowds are here.) Almost everything had a line, Dipper's outdoor queue was almost full and they were only running one train which made the line slow. The new Cyclone ride is in the but not ready for riders just yet.

Here is a video of me going down the zip line.
