I'm just bias because everything that comes out of a domestic car company is utter crap. Everything except the Ford GT because pretty much the only thing on it that's american are the little ford badges

A 7:59 is fast, sure, but the GT-R did it a full 23 seconds faster, and that is a LOT.

Sorry, but at the end of the day it's a Caddy.

^...yes it is...a Caddy that very comfortably holds five people and can go around the Nurburgring in 7:59 seconds in luxury and style...without having to be an over-the-top sports car. As much as I love the GTR, it's in a completely different field of vehicle. If you are going for sports car stats in a luxury sedan that is very easy to drive every day with your entire family, you aren't going to buy a GTR. Basing what you buy completely on statistics doesn't work. If you need a sedan you need a sedan. And if you can afford an $80,000 dollar car why not go for the fastest one out there?

Well, second fastest. But I completely disregard the Panamera since, well, it's one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever seen. Seriously it looks like they took two Porsches, cut the back off one and the front off the other, then smashed them together. It's looks like the bastard child of a 911 and a humpback whale. It's awful. I'm not really sure what they were thinking when they made it. I mean, yes, it's a beast of a vehicle and in a purely statistical respect, it's amazing. But like I said, statistics aren't everything. It's just so dang stupid looking. It's a design exercise gone horribly wrong and unfortunately it has made it to the public. I don't see this car doing well at all, especially in this economy...well, maybe it'll do fine, the Cayenne did fine and that thing was insanely ugly too. I just think Porsche should stick to the cars it knows best, sports cars. Although their style hasn't changed really in years, I love the looks of their typical cars (minus the Boxter) and adding the Panamera to their lineup has taken them down a notch in my book.

Anywho, being against anything domestic is a very close-minded way of looking at vehicles. American vehicles, especially GM products, are getting significantly better. Ten years ago I would agree with you, but now they're starting to be able to compete with some of the foreign car companies out there. They still have a ways to go but they shouldn't be dismissed just because they are American.

Okay, so first you say that basing a purchase on statistics doesn't work, then say "why not buy the fastest one"? Um, okay. If I had to buy a sports sedan, it would be something much better then a CTS-V. Examples : BMW M5, BMW M3, Maserati Quattroporte, C63 AMG, Audi RS4, Audi S3, need I go on? These are all sedans that I am basing on quality over "statistics".

I agree about the Porsche though. I wouldn't buy one.

Yes, I'm so close minded. I owned an American car, and it was an utter POS. Worst car I've ever owned. I've driven various American cars as well, all terrible. We had a rental Focus with 20,000 on the clock die on us. What happened? Cracked head. 20,000 miles and a cracked head. Isn't that fantastic?

GM cars? Please, they are in the crapper right now because of all the terrible cars they build.

I'm not trying to tell you that you're wrong, I'm simply saying why I disagree.

i had a 2007 6 as a rental once...I loved it. I would buy one if I could ever afford it. I liked the auto shift transmission.

Funny how tastes are, that car does very little for me.

Sorry, but at the end of the day it's a Caddy.

The badge means more than whats inside? I thought you'd be above that Colin

You threw the Maserati in there? I'd trust the BMW's and Audi's just fine, and I'd be skeptical about the Benz, but the Maserati isn't one I'd buy at all. Another plus to the CTS is cheaper to run (gas, parts all of it). At least GM doesn't price their options absurdly either, ie Porsche For the record, my experience with Cadillac has been exceptional - as good as Lexus.

My first car was a Ford. It's transmission blew around 90K, so I can understand your frustrations and your bias against. However that doesn't mean I dismiss our entire nation of automakers.

I would personally blame it on the union contracts. They still sell about as many cars as anyone on the planet.

My first car was an Olds Firenza wagon. Nothing but issues with the rear brake drums.

Second car, a Ford Ranger. It drank a gallon of anti freeze every two days. Mecahnics couldn't figure out where it was going.

Third car GMC S-15. Loved that truck, I bought it at 35K miles, and put 40K on it before trading it in. I ran it into the gournd and it never gave up.

I moved on to Japanese cars, two Toyotas and one Honda. The Toyotas have been awesome, the Honda sucked a$$.

Basically, I think it's a total crapshoot.

I almost bought a Mazda 6, but the wife wanted a CR-V. It's the one time she says I was right.

Very interesting because my 2002 CR-V has been nothing but reliable. And quite economical, too. Just last weekend I took a drive to San Diego and got 32.9 mpg (380 miles round trip) with the air conditioning on. Sorry for your experience, but you're right about cars being a crapshoot. Even with reliable brands you just never know. I've heard of Toyotas being lemons on occasion as well.

^^ does anyone else want to hump that?

Other than the side mirrors, which I don't think blend well, the annoying ass LEDs that will probably make having Audis in your rearview mirror more tolerable, and the ugly wheels I'm all over the rest of the car. I may sound like I'm bitching but that is overall still a very sweet looking car, and I hear the ladies love the Ferraris..

I finally got my car detailed yesterday. It *desperately* needed it, aside from the 1400 miles worth of bug on it (from my MO trip last week), it was just looking dull and tired. I forgot how nice it looks when clean

I take care of the car pretty diligently, but I also really use it so it accumulates battle scares along the way. The detail shop managed to get 90% of the scratches and nicks out. It really looks so much better.

^ Having a silver car helps tremendously in the detail department as well. Good to hear they got most of the bad stuff out!

^^ I'm definitely not a huge fan of having those LEDs in my rearview, but I do LOVE the look of them on the car itself. I'm also usually not a big fan of seeing so much of the large brake rotors showing, but this model just really works for me.

When it comes to cars of this nature, I don't hassle with the figures. A couple horsepower more or less than this model or that. Slightly better handling than this or that. It all doesn't really matter. You know you're getting a beast. To me, at this level, it's all about how it looks.

And in my opinion, this is the best looking production Ferrari in decades. It's the perfect combination of the 599 GTB, Scaglietti, Modena, Enzo, and F430. It's just sleek and beautiful. I want to have it's children.

Posted

I was hoping that the new V8 Ferrari would look good but I am blown away. Ferrari's are usually sleek beauties but this is the first in a long while that adds a menacing face to the beauty. It's also nice to see that they fixed the rear end and could finally make the tail lights look good again. In addition, that's quite a good looking diffuser. Just an all around great looking Ferrari.

However, as excited as I am about the looks, what an amazing hp to weight ratio. If the car does indeed come less than 50 pounds over 3,000, Ferrari is heading in the right direction. It seems like Porsche and Lamborghini have done nothing but put out powerful but very fat cars. This takes that power and combines it with a much lighter chassis. It seems like the result should be an uncompromising performance car. And let's not forget, that's more power than the competitors with an engine almost one liter smaller.

Okay, sorry for the hype guys. I just hope to own a Ferrari before I die and I figure if I pick the ones I like now, they should depreciate just enough for me to purchase one by the time I am in my fifties. This is exactly what I was hoping Ferrari would produce. I just can't wait to see it tested on Top Gear. Actually, scratch that. I just want to hear the thing.

I'll be learning to drive in a few months, and I already have my future car. It's my dad's old one... a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Convertible. I think it's worth around $2500 today, and the new stereo system costs more than the car itself.

^ it's 230 mpG, not mpH (which I think is actually far more impressive!). Love to know some of the tech behind that, as I've always found pure-electric cars to be severely impracticable. I reckon Volt will be the ones to do it right (and really, a world without the Prius will be a much better world!)

The Volt is not a pure electric, so it is already on the right path. It's a series hybrid and also has a regular engine so it has i think 300+ miles range.
