Nrthwnd Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Just found out, Sharon Jones just passed away last Friday. Sharon Lafaye Jones (May 4, 1956 – November 18, 2016) was an American soul and funk singer. She was the lead singer of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, a soul and funk band based in Brooklyn, New York. Jones experienced breakthrough success relatively late in life, releasing her first record when she was 40 years old. In 2014, Jones was nominated for her first Grammy, in the category Best R&B Album, for Give the People What They Want. One of her best songs still being played on the radio, is "One Hundred Days - One Hundred Nights."
Nrthwnd Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Can't believe it. It's been 25 years, since Freddie Mercury passed away. Wow, do I feel old.
bert425 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Can't believe it. It's been 25 years, since Freddie Mercury passed away. Wow, do I feel old. and same for Eric Carr (drummer for KISS). .he died the same day. we're ancient
Nrthwnd Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 ^ No, I'm ancient. You're just old. Get it right. They're also going to be doing (on the radio here) a little retrospective of Freddie's career, etc.
Nrthwnd Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 And another. R.I.P. Mrs. Brady ~ Florence Henderson
Nrthwnd Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 And another. Several days ago, I found out. R.I.P. Leon Russell
coasterbill Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 First thought: "Oh no, that's terrible" Second thought: "Thank god, now I don't have to listen to those tax relief commercials anymore."
scottiemon Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 December 7th, a day that will live in infamy, Greg Lake of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Primarily known for his incredible voice, he was also a great guitar and bass player. In this calendar year, we have lost two of the three members of this influential progressive band, with Keith Emerson passing away earlier this year. Greg Lake was also one of the founding members of King Crimson.

Nrthwnd Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Zsa Zsa Gábor She and (one of her sisters) Ava were a hoot, back in the 1980s and 90s, especially on tv. Ava did "Green Acres" on tv, and Zsa Zsa married I think... 8 husbands? RIP One of The Original Social Media Divas in The World!
cfc Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Zsa Zsa was Minerva, the very last villain on the 1960s Batman TV series.
Nrthwnd Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 George Michael! Gone at age 53! Way too young for that. https://ca.yahoo.com/news/singer-george-michael-dies-home-230800515.html
BelizeIt Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 ^So sad to hear that he has died! I grew up with his music, and have always enjoyed his older and newer releases. I regret never having the chance to see him perform live. Damn it! Rest in peace Michael, you'll be missed. Thanks Nrthwnd for posting a great compilation of his musical work.
scottiemon Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Carrie Fisher, the actress best known as Star Wars‘ Princess Leia Organa, has died after suffering a heart attack. She was 60. #F2016
WayCool64 Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I only have one thing to say about this: Still shocked that this happened. My mom got to meet her a long time ago.
Nrthwnd Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I thought of going back to the beginning of the year here, page 145 with Natalie Cole, and listing everybody gone from us, in this one post. But it's just too depressing to go through. Or post. We lost a lot of artists, thinkers, sports heroes, politicians. It's a real Baby Boomers List, this past year.
TheCoasterKid211 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I just heard about Carrie's passing like an hour ago, and I'm completely shocked and heartbroken. Not only was she amazing in Star Wars, but also in The Blues Brothers and SNL. Way to go off on a high note, 2016.
coasterkid124 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I was hoping that she'd pull through, but this is just horrible. I wonder how they're going to handle it either in this upcoming Star Wars, or the next.
Nrthwnd Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 ^ In one of the reports that came out, she apparently had already filmed her parts in the next Star Wars film (#8). And what she was currently involved with, was a book tour of her 8th (and last) book. It's actually based on the diaries she kept as a young actress, in the first Star Wars! Poetic timing. Great person she was.
Garet Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 Debbie Reynolds has died a day after her daughter did: http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-38455777
Nrthwnd Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 ^ Yeah I just read it, as she was reportedly on the way to the hospital. Sad, so sad. Her one Broadway musical back in the early 1970s. And George S.Irving, a staple character actor in several musicals, also passed away, last week. )o:
ImNotOneOfYou Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 One of the heroes of modern society, the inventor of the red solo cup, has died.
Philrad71 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 That is horrible about Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. 2016 just can't end quickly enough.
