Sounds good this dual project of a water and theme park!

This is certainly good news for those of us who like cruise ships!

It might also be good news for the cruise ships themselves. Because this is about the only way I'm ever going to go on one.

/Doesn't go anywhere unless there's a coaster.

This seems really ambitious, they are making it sound like its going to be Disney/ Universalish. Also, it never said there would be no used rides, parks consider everything to be unique. Scream was said to be "unique" upon opening and ended up being a clone. This seems like a perfect place for Eagles: LITFL. Also, I am doing a cruise with my friend our senior year of college(currently juniors in hs, but have been friends forever) and are looking at doing a Disney Cruise, or doing a Mexico cruise, so, bring on the credits!

New Update and now with artwork... mini-artwork!

http://thisiscozumel.com/content/view/776/2/

California-based leisure company, Elated Worldwide, announced a plan for a theme park in Cozumel at the end of last month.

Called "Mayan Adventures", the concept is for a Mayan themed attraction on 60 acres (242,811 sqm) of land, with the first phase opening by summer 2010.

Elated Worldwide was created last year to raise money, construct and manage the project.

The company's directors all come from a military background and are seeking investors to make their dream park idea come true.

Bill Fullwood, Elated Worldwide's Executive Director of Operations, told This is Cozumel that they have the support of the Cozumel government but are still to confirm the exact location where it will be built.

Nancy Edwards, owner of Cozumel Living real estate on the island, said Elated Worldwide may have a couple of "good prospects" for land south of downtown.

The project got off to a bumpy start when it was originally announced at the beginning of January.

It was met with sceptism by some on the island due to errors in the press release and a lack of information about the promotors' experience.

Elated Worldwide re-announced the news at the end of the month and had planned an investors' conference for last Saturday in the USA too, but this had to be postponed due to logistical reasons for international investors, said Fullwood.

He said that in addition to banks and business loans, they need to raise $75 million and have raised approximately $25 million so far.

If successful, Fullward said the park could employ 300 locals and that they would seek to minimize its environmental impact.

The first phase of the project is a water park with nine attractions ranging from a children's pirates play structure and a relaxing man-made beach area, to a thrilling white water rapids inner-tube ride for the true adrenaline fans.

The second phase, expected to open in 2012, includes a thrill ride, three high speed coaster rides, an indoor and an outdoor stage show as well as enriching educational presentations on the Mayan culture.

I hope to see more artwork, but a little bigger.

Whatever happened to the Observation Tower built on Cozumel?

We saw it once under construction and once finished, but not open on cruises, and on our most recent visit it was gone!

Seems like a pretty decent investment that went bad. Any info on that? Maybe if it's sitting around still this park can pick it up cheap!

I´ve heard that the observation tower that you mention, is the one that is operating at Cancun.

At the moment there´s no info. that mentions used rides for this proyect, but maybe they can purchase any if they consider so.

The image on the left is a piece of promotional art from Sheikra at Busch Gardens Africa... The coaster track itself (while depicted differently) is by B&M and the trains (while depicted differently) are 8 wide.

You´re right jedimaster1227, that´s an artwork of Sheikra.

That´s why I send them an e- mail to check why they used this artwork for the note, and the answer is this link:

I don´t know if they do this to atract investors, or a B&M Diving coaster is proyected for the park.

If this second option is true, maybe this could become the first B&M coaster for Mexico.

Let´s wait for more information.

I will actually be very happy if this project works out. I can't tell you how many times we've been to Cozumel now and this would be a reason to book another cruise!

Perhaps the first TPR cruise Robb?

A bit off topic. The last time that I was in Cozumel I went ATVing back in the jungle. We went down this dirt road and there was an abandoned water park just sitting in the middle of the jungle. Nothing else around just some slides and a pool overgrown with weeds. Does anyone know what the story is with this place? It was sort of near the Mayan caves.

It seems that the new park will move to the west coast.

The newer announcement claims that the Mayan Adventure park will move to "Los Cabos".

Here is the official announcement at the EWG Group site.

http://thisiscozumel.com/content/view/883/2/

A Maya theme park project planned for Cozumel will not go ahead on the island, but in Los Cabos, on the other side of Mexico, instead.

Thomas Ford, CEO of park developers, Elated Worldwide, told This is Cozumel he was "disappointed" the park wouldn't be built in Cozumel, in an exclusive interview last week.

Called "Mayan Adventures", Elated Worldwide announced the 60 acre attraction in January and has been trying to secure funding since.

Ford said that Cozumel was a beautiful place, but he hadn't been able to find investors willing to finance the project on the island.

He said that the project's American investors had wanted Mexican investors involved, but the Mexican investors would only invest in the concept if it was built in Los Cabos.

Ford couldn't give specific reasons why investors preferred Los Cabos but said they would have a good market there, even though the land was slightly more expensive.

Let´s see if this proyect can be completed.

http://www.blooloop.com/PressReleases/The-New-Mayan-Adventures-Theme-Park-And-Resort-A-World-Of-Fun-For-The-Whole-World-Literally-/2221

Elated Worldwide Group is planning to introduce the Mayan Adventures Theme Park early in 2013. The “New Sun,” according to the Mayan calendar is sure to be a great year for roller coaster enthusiast. With Southern California already having a strong tourist base, it provides the perfect location for the first Mayan Adventures Theme Park.

The theme park is sure to turn some heads but it is also going to change industry standards. We have designed the world’s most environmentally conscious amusement park. Out electrical power will be supplied by what will be the world’s largest solar farm. We plan to incorporate the most globally sensitive technologies at our disposal to create a collection of attractions the ‘entire world’ can enjoy.

It is the promise of our founder and CEO, Thomas Ford, to create the world’s first 100% green-fueled roller coaster haven: The Mayan Adventures Theme Park. Never before has such an adrenaline farm been created. The entire park will be sequestered into four quadrants, each capturing a season of the year thus the very essence of mother Earth.

The spring and fall areas are lush with foliage and ‘GO’-liage as roller coasters and other gravity-defying joys are plentiful. The park proudly boasts both a water park and an astounding indoor snow-filled winter wonderland to represent winter all year long.

An exciting experience awaits all who venture into its territory as ingenious technology presents thrill seekers with spectacular challenges. Welcome to the media home of the future entertainment Mecca of the world: The Mayan Adventures Theme Park “A World of Fun for the Whole World, Literally!”

Elated Worldwide is a California corporation founded November 2008 by Thomas Ford and Matt Bass. The company was established to develop and build the first solar-fueled amusement park in Southern California. A team of experts has been assembled to address each of the challenges with launching such an ambitious resort. Each member with a dedicated drive to achieve success while functioning as a responsible corporate citizen, creating harmony with the local people, government, visiting tourists and vacationers.

Never happen. With the world ending in 2012 , they are a little late opening in 2013.

Seriously, this is not a sure thing. They are fishing for investors with this announcement. Not a lot of detail, just a few sketches. I would be surprised if they find money in this economy.
