Loefet
Helix Update Had some time to stop by the park today and here is the latest: No steel today, but a lot more footers than last time. They have started work on several new locations since last time, heck there was even some movement at the station area, which was really nice to see. Still a lot to do, but I think most of the footers on the northern end of the mountain is done. I didn't bother to ride Lisebergbanan today since it was pretty crowded, so I can't say how much is done in that area, but I'm pretty sure that they have progressed as far as to start making the actual footers. On the other hand while walking by the storage/maintenance area I spotted some people milling around some big sky-lifts so there are preparations being done to start the erection as the steel arrives, though I doubt that it won't really happen until after the season finale, which is the 6:th of October. Pictures: This was actually the last images I took, but I put it first since it's a good place to start. Here you can see how much of the mountain that is being under construction We just have to hope that they fix this area later so that it will look just as nice as before Most of the footers for the first launch are done, just some at the end remains Some of them are massive Would you look at that, it appears that they have done something at the station area, seeing that there is a digger there now Here is something new, wonder what they are doing there They have completely ripped out the flower bed that was located here before, not so odd really since the brake run of Helix will go past here They have started to clear away that black shed that have been located here for some time, and looking at the holes in the concrete then there might also be some preparations being made station track footers They have relocated a lot of material here I haven't seen this ditch here before, so there is some major preparations being done to the station area The last footers for the first launch, some of them may also be for the dive down to the pretzel Crossing point between the first airtime hill and the turn before the essess into the in-line twist This one on the other hand will be for the second corkscrew The last one was number 33 and here is 34 Still a lot of drilling to be done The "power" building have really started to take shape (no idea really what will be located here, but power would be a good bet, so I will call it that) A little closer They have to clear out a lot of stuff here to be able to start the footers for the Pretzel I would almost say that they are pretty much done here under the lift, hard to tell really, I do hope that they will start the footers here soon though They have also cleared out the games/drink machines under this roof so that they can put in the footers required for Helix It's really hard to tell how much they have done down there from this location, next time I have to go on Lisebergbanan so I can take a closer look Here next to Flumeride was something I haven't seen before, Looks like a footer for the second launch, the location is spot on for one The hole in the image above is just straight down here between the roof and Flumeride. Looking at the lower end of the ride then there is loads of clearing to be done until footers Crap, they have expanded their Construction HQ and put a new shed in right at the spot where I take the images to see what is going on.. .. Doesn't matter really, since the barriers are so low that you easily can take some images above it More blasted rock at the second launch area And looking at all those holes then it seems like they aren't done yet But then again, there may be more on the way The Helix car is still a big attention grabber, it seems like there is always some people milling about around it Don't think much have happened here for some time now, most of the footers here are more or less done It's a shame really seeing the hill this naked, but the lack of trees makes it possible to see parts of Lisebergbanan that you haven't for years As said, I have to go on Lisebergbanan next time, since these kinds of images don't really tell much Look, 3 Sky-lifts!! Kanonen!! Here is an image that was taken slightly before the first one, and with it I end this update. Until next time!!
CedarPoint
A very nice update as usual! I have some questions for you How was the lines for everything? Do you have a season pass? How crowded is Liseberg usually on Sundays? Btw I live in Sweden too too bad I live pretty far away from Liseberg and Gröna Lund :/
Loefet
BTW about the Helix construction, noticed that Liseberg managed to arrange their construction schedule somewhat that they could open Lisebergbanan on the 22:nd, wonder if they manage to do something similar on the 29:th or if it will be shut then as planned. A very nice update as usual! I have some questions for you How was the lines for everything? Do you have a season pass? How crowded is Liseberg usually on Sundays? Btw I live in Sweden too too bad I live pretty far away from Liseberg and Gröna Lund :/ Thank you!! Today it was pretty bad, way worse than almost all other visits this year, Lisebergbanan was about 30 minutes as we were there, the queue for Flumeride, Uppskjutet, Uppswinget, etc. was spilling out onto the main paths, so today were pretty crowded to say the least. Of course , you need a season pass if you plan to visit the weekly/biweekly to be able to make these updates for you all out on the net. Sundays are almost always better especially now when the peak season have passed. I was actually pretty surprised by the crowds today, must be the really nice weather we are having. It will be even better as the season nears it's finale, the crowds will decrease as you get closer to the final day, and also you will get more lovely night riding later in the autumn It will get colder, but Lisebergbanan at night gives you a nice warm feeling inside It's a shame really, I don't live that far away from Liseberg in reality (about 32 km) but I really wish that I could live even closer than I do today, there are loads of nice apartments with great views of Liseberg I would love to live in

I live about 310 km away from Liseberg Sorry for the late reply, if you are in the park already then I hope that the crowds aren't that bad for you, but if not, then I would guess that it won't be as bad as yesterday, but it would be even less later. EDIT: According to an article in GP today which said something about Flumeride made an E-stop, also said that there were 14000 visitors in the park today, which really are a lot of people for a Sunday this late in the season. dropzonefan
I''m really sorry if this question sounds stupid, but what's with this park and having two of everything?... They have two drop towers, and now two launchers?... Sure, Helix looks incredible, but why would they bother building it at a park that already has an intamin rocket coaster? simon8899
^Hmm, hopefully they'll add a wooden coaster by RMC soon...
Ultimate
^^Maybe they're going to sell Kanonen after Helix opens - Helix beats it in every way...
Nrthwnd
^ But Kanonen is such a sweet little launched coaster, one of the very few in the world, from my own recent coaster traveling experiences.... Liseberg seems to have it down, for making the most of what it has space-wise, and making the park as efficient as possible for it's guests. And the added landscaping here and there is still awesome to see! Two times anything in this park seems to work out to be a good thing for this park. Definitely worth re-visits. On the very first TPR Scandi Tour - but re-branding my oneness into Balder's wooden frame, for the second time. Awesome! ***I'll be back in 2014!***
Loefet
Yes I know that Liseberg is a bit of 2 of everything, but the experiences between each pair are pretty different. Atmosfear is tall and delivers epic floater, where as Höjdskräcken is a typical S&S tower. Comparing Kanonen with Helix, then sure Helix will beat Kanonen in every way and anyone that says otherwise have some strange ideas on stuff. Kanonen is tight and powerful where as Helix will be flowy and gentle, two complete opposites in a way. But I do agree that Kanonen may be leaving the park much sooner than most of the other stuff Liseberg have to offer. Speaking of ride choices at Liseberg then I find it strange that all the more "thrilling" flat rides either swings or move vertically. Liseberg really need some more variation in the future, since they are all pretty boring by now Helix again, I found the studio that made the train designs, etc. for Helix (and several other rides at Liseberg). and I have to say that there were some really great designs before settling at the final one, it's just too bad that the full lighting package didn't make the final cut, since that would have been really awesome to see that green snake through the forest on the Liseberg hill. SOURCE of the images below - Quarry Fold Studio I wouldn't have minded this design for the trains Epic glow, that unfortunately didn't happen
dropzonefan
Well, now that I think about it, the two of everything deal isn't just at this park... It seems like it's something that's spreading to other parks now too.. Ednor and Vampire at La Ronde, Behemoth and Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, the two drop towers at Grona Land et. Anyway, Helix looks way better than Kannonon, as many people have stared, and I can't wait to see how it turns out!... Who knows, maybe they'll sell Kannonon if people stop riding it after Helix opens... Hopefully it'll find it's way over to a smaller park in North America if that happens lol
Loefet
It's time for another: Helix Update!! Today it's only 4 weeks left before Liseberg shuts for the 2013 summer season and it's only 230 days until Helix opens. The four weeks means that if I continue with these bi-weekly updates then there will be two more dirt and footers galore updates from within the park. I really hope that there will be some chance to pop by the park and do an overview update from our observation point of the park so that we can see some steel rising. Then there is always the winter season which opens 6 weeks after the summer ones end, so there will be a slight pause in the updates before they will continue until Christmas. Today's bike ride to the park was really hard, sure getting there was a piece of cake, but the return run was murder. Strong head winds and legs feeling like rubber meant that it was going at a snails pace on the way home. Really need to ride my bike more often... Onto the images!! Arrived just after Liseberg opened and went in from the southern entrance. Headed straight up the hill since the rides up there won't open for the first hour, meaning that it's really quiet up there, great for taking images First stop is the second launch area, taken as always from the top step of the stairs to the ride op entrance of Uppskjutet. They have removed a lot of rock since last time I was here, getting close to the final level I presume Found a new spot for images, under one of the big wooden fences, also of the second launch area Some of the last footers for the second launch is located between here If you forget what it's all about Construction HQ is really busy, but it can also be loads of stuff thrown in since it's the weekend Preparing new footers by Uppswinget The game/drinks area by Uppswinget is cleared Nothing much in the Pretzel area, they really need to start preparing footers here Not much here either, probably start the footers here soonish This was confirmed to be the main transformer building for Helix, named S9, it will deliver 1.5 MW for each launch when needed Just ramp it up 800 times and it could power Doc Browns DeLorean This place is really narrow, it really snakes between areas under construction The transformer building have grown quite a lot since last time, and also there is even more footers here And also on the other side I though this area was more or less complete since they had started to backfill, but they have more than doubled the number of footers here Right in the middle of the path Footers footers everywhere Wonder what this one is for? Never seen one of these with 6 holes pre-footer plate Some strange structure which would be some kind of footer I guess Look here is number 200 as well Heading up to the Station area, I noticed that they had removed the games here next to Desperados and put up a massive wall Seems like they have started to widened this path to be able to fit in the brake-run for Helix I haven't seen this place for 13 years, since they shut down the Simulator which became Maxxima, it was the queue area for the simulator ride Some progress at the station Heading around to the other side of the station area I spotted even more footers Also at the end of the first launch you have this one?? More work at the station area Station from the other direction Footers are everywhere!! First launch area is more or less complete, I don't think that there will be more footers in this area. It seems like they are working to reopen the main path up the mountain pretty soon OK, nothing more to be seen at the top, let's go down to the main park WHAT!! No sexy train to drool at Pretty much done That's one big footer, and the yellow thing is a location from which they are measuring where the footers will be located This area have been pretty much done for a while now It was the Farm days at Liseberg this weekend, so here are some Llamas Calf This was the closest thing I got to a Donkey though There was some massive queues on Lisebergbanan so I didn't bother with images from the construction area right by the queue, but this will have to do until next time. This view is something you haven't seen before, it's the location of Helix's helix So this was it for this time, I did a lap around the park in case I could spot anything from the outside There is the sexy train <3 But wait what have they done to the seats?? Until next time!!

Totopez
Liseberg posted on Facebook that the blue train on Kanonen is currently being fitted with the new soft restraints from Intamin, to be completed by the weekend. Next week, they will change the restraints on the red train. I really look forward to riding Kanonen again!
_koppen
Yay, it's the I305 restraints! This is defiantly going to make the ride more comfortable. Even though I hoped for non shoulder restraints, this is a good start.
Loefet
I'm happy you all liked the update!, next one will come in 2 weeks. The replacement of the vests have been rumoured for years that I know, so it's finally happening. Are the I305 ones similar to those on Atmosfear or are they softer? But then again I'm not a big fan of any of the "soft west" restraints I have experienced. They chafe, makes you feel claustrophobic (which I never experience in any other situation) and they try and rip my ears off every time I use them. Sure the neck slashing might be better with these, but I have more issues with the massive vibrations that occurs after the loop and other places, and I'm pretty sure that these vests won't do much difference in that aspect. But with Helix next year then I never really have to ride Kanonen again I have the opportunity to visit Liseberg this Saturday again, I will not do another Helix update, but I can have a look at Kanonen instead..
_koppen
They are the same restraints as on Atmosfear, only they have an extra layer of padding. They are a bit softer, but they are also harder to put on, since the space for your head can be very tight. I also agree that it won't solve Kanonen's rattling, but at least now there won't be as many people with their ears bashed (even though Kanonen's old restraints weren't that bad, compared to say Speed Monster). I'm looking forward to hear what you think of this new upgrade next weekend!
Loefet
So I got time for a quick visit today, and since it was really crowded for a late September day I didn't get that many rides done in the short time I had. First and foremost was the Kanonen ride which I will come back to, then some more awesome Plättar (getting close to the 100 I promised myself that I would eat during the season) and then finished it of with 2 epic night rides on Lisebergbanan . As said before I don't particularly like the "soft west" type of restraints they all chafe on my neck and the Intamin's I had tried before (Tornado, Insane and Atmosfear) all try and rip my ears of every time I ride either of them. What a huge difference some nylon fabric and thin sheets of foam makes. These new restraints have completely changed my view of Kanonen, I would even be tempted to call it a good coaster instead of just a mediocre credit as I rated it as before. I'm happy to ride it any time now, even several times during a visit, not just once a season just to have ridden it every year. I used to ride it with my hands in the air just to reduce the amount of neck slashing, but on the ride today I didn't brace myself at all and there were no chafing, no bashing and the nylon makes it slip by the ears without any pain at all, I really hope they add these to Atmosfear (or any other Intamin with the harder "soft" restraints) for just that last reason alone. It took Liseberg 3 tries to change the original restraints, but now they finally got it right. Great work!! I really hope that they will fix the red train quickly, but until then avoid it at all costs, and go for the blue train I'll give this change of restraints 2 big thumbs up from me
Loefet
Liseberg mini-update Was unfortunately unable to make a true Helix update this weekend, due to a massive cold, which thankfully is on it's last legs now. But I guess that it wouldn't be much different than other recent updates, just a lot of footers in various stages of completions from various angles. There were several new ones when I went little over a week ago, so I guess that there are several more next time. Liseberg had shut down Lisebergbanan again last Friday for the rest of the season , since they were working on the tunnel underneath Lisebergbanan, so that would be something new to have a look at next time. However I had an opportunity to have a look at the park from the outside yesterday, it also gave me a great opportunity to test out my new lens to my camera The coming weekend I'll be in Stockholm for a visit to Gröna Lund so no Helix images then, but the weekend after that (Liseberg summer season finale) will bring a bucket load of images of the park, so expect more at that time. Also while seeing images from EAS then I know where the Helix front car went, wonder if it will return to the park for the winter season. Here are the few images from yesterday: After getting of the tram at the big stop close to the park, I was greeted by the "massive" Liseberg wheel They were doing some rearranging of the light ropes on the trees in preparation of the winter season which starts in about 2 months Temporary location of the sheds that will host many of the stands during the winter season, I was really hoping that I could spy some Mack track here Hello Balder!! Outside the main entrance to the Liseberg HQ Is it stuck?? New footers is visible from here, they are really hard to spot from inside the park Work on the transformer building were progressing, seems like the roof is now on More footers Even more footers The new entrances looks really great, but there are issues about crowd management around them, there is usually massive queues to some of them where as others may have almost no people in line.. I'll end this report the same way I started it, at the wheel. See you in 2 weeks with loads of more Liseberg images!
coolkid
Is there track in place for Helix?
Loefet
^ The erection if the ride won't start until after the Summer season have ended, which is in 2 weeks. So there is nothing done yet. Not even sure that the track have arrived in Sweden yet, they usually place these stuff within the fenced of section of the Parking area, but as you can see then there isn't anything Helix related there, but since those fenced of areas are the secure parking lot then I doubt that the track will arrive there until after the season is done. But then again with the massive property deal that Liseberg have done with the buildings next to the park it might be that they are storing everything indoors and we won't see it until it's put into place. But I think that they will complete most of the footers before they will start putting up any steel for the ride.
