^ I beg your pardon! I am perfectly suited for the Ministry of Transportation. I love monorails, and trains. I might even appoint a dunderhead that likes cars to a position!

If I can't fulfill my role there, I'd gladly take a position in the Ministry of Silly Walks. I excel there too.

If Scott is giving out cabinet positions, can I be the Minister of 'P'?

Since Matt has requested, er, demanded the title "Minister," you'll have to pick out something different, Joe. How does the Dean of 'P' sound?

Although, be aware, given Diablo Cody's writing credits, extending the invite to you may be a huge oversight by this administration.

And that Maple Leafs hat is just a little too Canabian for my tastes. I don't know, I suppose there's still time to win me over. I've got an old Bill Walton Portland Trailblazers jersey that would look great on you, Scott!

Justin, as a Presidential hopeful, there's a ton of arse to kiss on the road to the White House. I'm just getting a head start by appealing to our neighbors. In fact, when I'm not sporting the Leafs hat, I can be found sporting a sombrero and kicking a soccer ball just so our neighbors to the south know I'm down with them too.

As for the Walton jersey, would I also be required to go with the "Teen Wolf" look (headband and all) as well? I'm certainly not beyond that if that's what will win you over.

Matt, he may have a valid point here. I can't have a drunk Minister of Transportation. Perhaps Chief of Agriculture would fit? Someone needs to oversee the barley and hops (not to mention, the "W"). And you could immediately appoint Derek to serve as well.

So can I be Royal Viseer? Up to now I've been just a Royal Pain in the Arse. They have Royal Viseers in modern politics, right?

lol. We do now. My White House aims to break many rules.

On a side note, the North Florida stretch of the Monorail network shall be Blue striped with interior LED lighting.

Also, if Matt should accept his newly suggested appointment, I would like to formally extend the invitation to WillMontu to be the Duke of Transportation.

Oh no! BeemerBoy is turning into Big Mike with his sychopancy.

Never mind. BeemerBoy is actually running for office.

LOL. Larry, please don't confuse the voting public with your big, fancy dictionary words. I need all the votes I can get, okay?

Also:

Scott, I would like to request a no bid exclusive contract to design the Northeast Corridor of the Monorail Network. I swear my design fee will be within a factor of ten or twenty from what it would have been had there been competition.

Done. As long as you link it up to Martha's Vineyard, we're set.

I support Obama and believe that he could be the best thing to happen to this country in years. I'm hoping he chooses Evan Bayh as his running mate.

If he isn't elected, I've lost all faith in the American public and I will begin the process of moving to Canada. People basing their votes on flag pins, the pledge of allegiance, and a middle name is ridiculous and embarrassing.

Amen. There's finally someone on here that speaks my feelings with such eloquence.

Now that is what is embarrassing. As soon as you don't get your way you want to cut and run. Did you ever think that if Obama isn't elected in November that the American public got it right and your wrong? Of course not, it is the American way to cry foul. Maybe you should think about getting involved more, convincing people Obama does have substance and isn't shallow instead of threatening to move out of the country. It is to bad that Streisand and Cher didn't live up to their promise to leave the country when Bush was elected.

^^Besides, look at how many people threatened to move to Canada if GWB won the election. BOTH times, nonetheless. And how many people actually stuck to that threat?

Anyway, if you really do move to Canada, get back to me on how their "free" health care works out for you.

All those people changed their minds when they found out the US government wouldn't pay for their tickets to Canada. A friend of mine said he was going to leave on 04'. I offered to pay for his ticket. He balked. He was all talk, like Obama is.

Gisco - I think we can safely assume Cher is off the radar. I am kinda glad Babs stuck around. Her website is good for a few laughs every now and then.

They are also highly paid, why take away motivation from these guys to be the best.

The high pay thing is no longer true for primary care doctors who make up the majority of physicians. 120k/yr for a pediatrician might seem like a ton of money to some people. However, it's not great when you factor in the INSANE cost of medical school (about 250k for a private school including living expenses) along with the opportunity cost involved with making no money for 4 years of medical school and crappy money for 4 years of sleep-deprived residency. The pay becomes especially mediocre when you consider that there are other careers that pay that much that are much less rigorous to get into and require far less years of schooling.

Anyway, if you really do move to Canada, get back to me on how their "free" health care works out for you.

It'll work out fine for him. He's young and most likely won't have to actually use the health care system. These types are often the most ardent supporters of government-run care: The young healthy people that don't really use it.

Just curious - whats the average American doctor make versus what doctors overseas make?

That's what I'm really getting at.. correct me if I'm wrong but America has some of the highest paid doctors in the world? I don't have time to look at 200 data from nations, but I found articles saying German doctors are horribly underpaid (1/3 of American salaries) and that UK doctors get paid roughly equal to American doctors (but then UK is much more costly to live in).. Australian doctors are in the same boat.

Also, I found a chart from a survey which shows the $120K figure to be pretty low.

You forgot to mention insurance costs which are just absurdly high.

You know a country pays its doctors well when they keep paying them after their death

Still don't have a clue to what a Royal Viseer does, other than Visee things. Well, if it doesn't work out, there always "Minister of Wetness".

Ahh, but young people are also more likely to get injured doing stupid things.

If I had to actually pay for the treatment from when I sprained my ankle, or when I dislocated my collar bone I'd be broke.

I was gonna write a novel to show you obama supporters that you're just voting for him because of what you've seen on TV and just how uninformed you are. "We need change" and stuff like that is just stupid. What are we gonna change to? I think that has already been brought up.

I will vote for McCain because he is not a socialist. He will not have socialized medicine and will not pull out of Iraq. I can understand why yall don't like us being in iraq but it would be a complete douchebag move on our part if we just left the country now. Isn't it much safer over there now tho? Maybe we're almost done there.

Much safer in Iraq? I'd go as far as saying as it was much safer in Iraq before we invaded. To say we're almost done there is an absurd statement. What have we done? What are we doing? What have we accomplished in the many years we have occupied that country?

You should know why we were sold the war. We were told a) Iraq was involved with 9/11 b) they had connections with Al Qaeda, and c) they had weapons of mass destruction. None of that is true.

And please sense my sarcasm when I say... it's a good thing we did invade Iraq. Halliburton received all of the contracts to rebuild and liberate this nation, and that's where the moneys at. Not money we will see, however, but money that will line the pockets of the rich and corrupt, like Dick Cheney himself. It's a shame, however, some people still don't realize.

And now, because of the policies, and immoral war, started by our current president, we have one of the worst economies in the history of the US. We are in a recession, the value of the dollar is plummeting, gas prices are skyrocketing, and a depression like we have never seen before is looming over us. Picture a future where you will have to roll wheelbarrows full of money to buy a gallon of milk, and a gallon of gas costs over $10. This is a very real not so distant future.

And I prelude all of that to say McCain is more of the same. His answer to the oil crisis is to drill for more oil even though that will do more harm than good, and any miniscule effect it has on prices will not be seen for over a decade. Funny, he's willing to sell out the marine environment to keep with the oil-guzzling status quo. He's another corporate wh*re, willing to stay in Iraq for as long as it takes... for all of the wrong reasons.

What have we done?

Say what you want, but one achievement of that war that I think everyone can agree on is that Sadaam Hussein is dead and no longer in power. He belongs in hell with the likes of Hitler, Pol Pot and Milosevic.

If you want to blame federal budget deficits on the war, go ahead, but I don't think you can blame the economy solely on the war. Heck, the "war machine" should help the economy, if anything, what with extra production and such. One could argue that the price of gas has gone up because of the war, and that has led to shipping increases and therefore an increase in the price of about everything, but there are other factors too. How about the credit crisis? What about all those people getting home loans that they could barely afford, or couldn't afford to begin with?

the dollar is rebounding.. er.. the economic problems that we've seen are finally catching on in Europe, the the dollar is starting to rise against the pound and euro. Forecasts for the UK housing market are particularly bleak.

No, things aren't great right now, but they will rebound. Of course, a slow economy is a prime time for politicians to come in and propose socialist reforms.

"We are going to change the way we change the ever changing ways in Washington. I pledge to never stop changing my positions to keep up with the changing political landscape. I will work hard to change myself into the changing person that will be needed to change this country. Change"

Isn't this Obama's platform?

Not that I am a McCain fan either. Here is his:

Beemerboy in 2008, even if he is a Hurricanes fan.

Not really my area, sorry. I remember reading that France pays physicians quite poorly and also that Canada does pretty well in compensation. I think I read that the UK does well also.

Also, I found a chart from a survey which shows the $120K figure to be pretty low.

Salary surveys tend to exagerrate the figures a bit. Since they're basically a form of bragging, the higher paid people are more likely to respond. All I know is we have to take several thousand foreign medical graduates each year to fill all the primary care residency seats.

Medical salaries can also vary drastically depending on where you live. Less desirable locales, like rural areas far away from exciting cities, tend to pay a lot better because they have to pay well to recruit anyone at all.

And, yeah, there are still plenty of radiologists, dermatologists, anesthesologists, etc. cleaning up in the pay dept. But not everyone gets to be a dermatologist.

Australian doctors are in the same boat.

Aussie medical practitioners get paid an average of $171,312 AUD per year..or about $150,000 USD per year

(Keep in mind, to get a medical degree costs far less here $50,000-$60,000 AUD)

Heck, the "war machine" should help the economy, if anything, what with extra production and such.

It doesn't quite work that way, and it is to do with the concept of efficient allocation of resources.

Basically, you could go putting money into funding the war, and people would get jobs in factories making bombs, tanks, planes etc.

But what if the money went towards better things on home soil, like roads, industrial equipment, new technology etc...you'd create jobs for the people building/manufacturing these things, but at the same time you'd get another round of jobs created and greater profitability for existing businesses, because these things help with efficiency , expand productive capacity and so on.
