Condor
Having previously lived in Vegas, I'm extremely skeptical about a lot of these proposed projects when they are announced. I cannot fathom that we will see TWO giant wheels and THREE water parks in that city. The High Roller wheel backed by Caesars will continue, Skyvue will join Echelon and Fontainbleau in mothball status, Wet n' Wild and Cowabunga Bay will both probably make it, but the Circus Circus water park has no chance. Or you know, I could be letting cynicism get the better of me and be totally wrong about everything......
DenDen
Has it really gone downhill that much? I worked there until 1999, and relocated, haven't been back since. Back then, we were 3rd lowest on the strip, but still pretty good, just slightly dated until they remodeled with the new West tower. (The Sahara and Frontier were dumpier than us at that time!) I'm not surprised, but the negative comments make it sound REALLY bad.

They started construction, but it has already come to a halt because they "are waiting on manufacturers from around the world to deliver their parts." Kyle Coleman
Without a doubt the dumpiest place on the strip. Surprisingly excellent steakhouse though.
WFChris
OK, I may be going out on a limb here, but are there people here that DON'T think the Adventuredome is trashy? I think on it's own, its a cool little park, but unless they keep it perfect and in tip top shape, I see it having trouble attracting Angelinos. With all of our 'high end' parks here in So Cal, I don't think we find the place very interesting, and it's always completely dead when I visit. Perhaps it appears a little nicer to travelers from other parts of the country, but in my (and my friends) opinion, the place has always been kinda dumpy feeling and unfinished. I agree with others about taking the money for this weird pool oasis and using it to either vamp up the leaky dome, or put it towards imploding the rapidly aging property. HEADCHEEZ
I just don't understand this. For the last two years, Circus Circus has been telling us Adventuredome was getting a mass upgrade, including a new coaster, and then they scrap it in order to build a water park when two are already being built within a 20 minute drive. What were they thinking? Adventuredome is a good park but desperately needs to be fixed up. I guess we'll have to wait a little longer.
Condor
^That's just how the suits running Vegas think. Once one resort does something, you can bet the farm that every other property said company has will get one too and all of the competition will jump on the bandwagon with their own version until the market is way past saturation. "Why build something different when we can let someone else's market research do our work for us?" So, in other words, it's exactly like every other industry! _koppen
So this is what, the third waterpark that's been announced for Vegas in the past few months? ProSlide must be rubbing their hands together with glee... Considering ProSlide aren't providing anything for the announced water parks in Vegas, I really doubt that's what they are doing. Chittlins
Surprised no one has mentioned it but a snippit in PArk World and a update or two on Screamscape seem to point to Adventure Dome getting a custom S&S El Loco soon http://www.parkworld-online.com/news/fullstory.php/aid/2405/Ride_Manufacturer_Update.html
DougMJr
^Hmmm, interesting. Not sure where they would put it but I could be cool if the incorporated the big ol' fake mountain in some way like they did with Canyon runner.
cal1br3tto
Looking forward to more news on this, especially as I really enjoyed Steel Hawg and I would think they've only gotten better (at least assuming the newer restraints come standard). I guess I have some time to decide whether to hold off on visiting 'til it opens, or go before then and sweep it up later when it does. It's like how I always go back and forth on whether I should try to go out of my way for Desperado, or to wait for Speed in case it make a comeback. SharkTums
^^^Yeah, I can pretty much confirm that they will be getting a custom S&S El Loco in the place of Rim Runner's splash down pool.
DougMJr
^So am I to understand that Rim Runner is being removed. I wouldn't be surprised, it was looking pretty beat last time I was there.
SharkTums
^Yes. The removal of Rim Runner has been a strong rumor for years now, looks like it's finally happening.
Kyle Coleman
I really hope this turns out to be true. We haven't gotten a new coaster here in years.
australianalex
I found Green Lantern to be pretty fun so I'd love to see a Custom El Loco with the same restraints.
Double0Kevin
That's awesome news. With the "waterpark" and roller coaster, are we looking at a revitalization of Circus Circus? Would be nice to see some life brought back down to that end of the strip. I had a feeling this would mean Rim Runner was finally getting the ax. It's been a long time coming for that thing, not a bad ride but not a great one either. Took a ton of space too.
DougMJr
Last visit to the Adventure dome Rim Runner was running, but barely. The boat kept catching on something in the station. There was a loud scrape and the ride op would "rock" the boat by moving the drive tires back and forth until it got dislodged from whatever it was catching on. Also, I think having a water ride inside the dome made it unnecessarily humid in that area last time I visited.
Mr Stratosphere
Not really the best "aerial" photo of the park, but look how much real estate removing Rim Runner will open up for the park. And imagine if they remove the faux mountain range how much more room will be opened up. You have the lift hill, storage & maintenance areas, the drop, and splashdown pool. I have high hopes for this!
Mr Stratosphere
Hey everyone!! I decided to take a quick walk around the Adventuredome and to take a look at Rim Runner. If the rumors are true and the ride is slated for removal. Take a look at how much space will really be opened up here. Basically the supports for the ride are encased around all of the park's rock work. So imagine all of the rock work gone and visualize how much space is opened up for future expansion. Time will tell what this year has in store for the dome! Also from the S&S site stating that an El Loco has been ordered for Vegas makes the rumors a more realistic reality! There is so much potential here, some of the photos also show off Canyon Blasters new / refreshed paint job! They are about 50% done with that painting while the park is closed in the evening. I apologize for some of the photos being lower quality, the dome is a hard place to take photos in at night. There doesn't seem to be any work going on with the ride itself, but should anything change, I will be sure to post it here and keep everyone updated. Behind this wall is the maintenance and storage facility for the boats. Behind this wall is the maintenance and storage facility for the boats. The lift and the supports for the lift are behind all of this rock work. Looking towards the infamous Miner Mike credit, also think of all of the weight that will be removed from the structure with the water being gone. The ride really does take up the most space in the park. The splash down, look how much space this area takes up. I do like all of the rock work, but I would love to see some additions and upgrades here! I love the paint job on Canyon Blaster! And finishing off with a comparison on ride photo. The one of the left is from when I rode opening year and the one on the right is from last year.
Xmeister
You know, I'm excited for the new credit. But I'm really going to miss Rim Runner. I remember going on it when I was four years old the year after the Adventuredome opened. At least to a four year old the Adventuredome, (then called Grand Slam Canyon) was awe inspiring. I remember all the old theming that the ride used to have. Watching the boats make their way through the park was mesmerizing. In some ways I wish the Dome had remained the same. But I seriously doubt that it would've been feasible financially to have such a small number of attractions. Anybody have any old pictures from the park? Double0Kevin
I wonder how much of the ride will just be left where it is because it's in an unusable space and there is no reason to spend money on removing that section of the trough. Like some of the sections high up on the mountain.
gisco
No loss in my book. Always thought it was taking up to much space and it seemed to humid in there.
Mr Stratosphere
^ Especially in the Summer. Like I said, so much space is taken up by the mountain range, a lot of space will free up if they remove them all together. Much of the ride is not level with the main floor of the park. I would love to see some new flats added!
