Since a lot of people are saying it's so hard to compare Cedar Point and IOA, I have made a new poll. Whose parks do you like better, Universal's or Disney's? I voted Disney. This may not be fair, though, because Disney has WAY more parks than Universal, but plenty of people like Universal better. Let the voting begin! [trumpets playing] DO DO DOOOO!! [/trumpet playing]

Comparing everything they've done in Orlando in the past 6 years, Universal all the way. Disney has been busy resting on old attractions and not making hardly any new ones with quality. Hopefully Everest will be good

I'm comparing Disneyland & California Adv. to USH. I picked USH. Disneyland and USH are both great parks. But the old Disneyland is now dead. Its become IMO the Wal-Mart of Family parks. USH, is small and it offers something for everyone. It also dosen't have the Wal-Mart feel that Disneyland has.

For me IOA first daylight second in Orlando. It would probably be easier to peronally rate them park by park: IOA, Sea World, USO, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM - Animal Kingdom I haven't been to but I heard it blows big time (Everest might change that), haven't been to BGT either.

In conclusion Universal it is.

^ Did you actually expect Disney's Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party to be anything like Horror Nights?

you got a point there but, hey, halloween is halloween

i'm not only comparing the Orlando halloween parties where the difference is really huge but also the difference btwn the halloween events in europe (dlp and upa) is also significant. And in paris the halloween event of disney is not called 'not-so-scray' but just 'halloween'.

I vote for Disney, because I like Disney much more than Universal! Okay some attractions at Universal are better, but the atmosphere at Disney is the best!

Oh crap, another poll. Okay, I'll bite:

For families with small kids, probably Disney. For teenagers and above, Universal. (I'm talking the FL parks here.)

Uni just has more of an edge and less self-mythologizing puffery. To put it another way: WDW is The Little Mermaid, Universal is Shrek. USO is T23D, WDW is the 3-D Muppets. Hell, WDW even replaced the Alien with Stitch 'cos the attraction had been too scary. Can't imagine Universal doing that.

WDW is four parks to Uni's two, so the comparison is a bit unfair. Still, each of the Disney parks has too much dreck. I enjoyed the safari at DAK, but after that and the Lion King show, it was pretty much a gorgeously themed zoo. EPCOT is mostly a has-been disappointment: I thought TT was overrated, and though I liked M:S a lot, much of Future World is saggy. And the international section is pretty damn tired, full of second-rate versions of Las Vegas themeing without the slots. As a themed environment, MGM is better than USO, and it has two killer attractions, RnRC and TOT...but beyond that, what?

That leaves the MK, the jewel in the crown, and it is in many ways a great park.

There's also more to do at MK than IOA, though I greatly prefer IOA's themeing. (Seuss Island is just much more brillaintly conceived and executed than Fantasyland, and give me Port of Entry over Main Street any day.) But when you compare apples to apples - Kali vs. Bluto, Dinosaur vs. JPRA, ROTM vs. RnRC, ST vs. BTTF, Jaws vs. Jungle Cruise, MIB vs. Buzz, Spidey vs. HM, POTC, or any dark at Disney - Universal usually, though not always, wins out in my book. (Splash Mtn. has the theming, though Dudley's got the drop. And let's not even talk about Dr. Doom in the same breath as TOT.) And, of course, Universal has a couple of world-class coasters, and WDW doesn't...but it does have the ever-terrifying It's a Small World.

I enjoy myself at UO much more than WDW. It just appeals more to me. So Universal it is.

One thing though. I disagree with MGM being a better themed environment than USF. Most people can't even name the different areas of MGM - including me. IMO, that park was very poorly planned (and we know why). When it comes to the areas that actually seem to have some kind of theme there, NY is inferior to USF's NY. It's a very sterile, lifeless feeling backlot, unlike NY at USF, which is much more convincing IMO. And I personally prefer the theming of USF's Hollywood, even though MGM's has Tower. The rest of MGM is basically generic studio theming, which certainly fits the studio theme of the park, but it's very bland compared to the different areas of USF. The only studio themed area of USF is Production Central.

Y'know, I originally wrote that, but you're right. Many sections of USF - around Earthquake or Jaws, or the NY streets, for instance- really are more distinct and better-themed environments than the areas at MGM. On the other hand, though consistent with the whole soundstage thing, attractions like Shrek, BTTF, and Twister have lackluster exteriors, while TOT rocks.

And hey, what's with this "well, I haven't been to (or ridden) whatever, but I'm gonna vote for or against it anyway" thing I keep seeing? Christ on a bicycle, aren't these polls jive enough already?
