B&M flyers restraints do freak me out for some reason. Even though I *know* I am safe.. it still feels like it isn't enough to hold me in!

I agree! Sitting in a brake run waiting while in those restraints is not only uncomfortable, but very creepy as well!

Has anyone ridden a Zamperla Volare? To those never ridden one, there's absolutely nothing to keep you secured. You literally have to hold on for your life. Well, ok, maybe not for your life, but to have at least a bit more comfortable ride.

Here's a pic showing the lack of restraints: clicky. The car is basically like a ladder, which is then raised to a horizontal position.

The restraints look like they were designed by the Spanish Inquisition to force "heretics" to confess. I've felt safe enough in them, but they are damned uncomfortable.

^And don't forget staring down at the vomit stains and piles of kitty litter on the final brake run.

I have memories of riding Jet Scream (SFSTL) when I was very young, and only having the single lapbar across both seats. Can anyone confirm that the trains at one point had only the single lapbar, or is that a distorted memory? Anyone know if any other Schwarzkopf's rode with a single lapbar at any point back in the day?

I rode the Iron Shark Eurofighter with its lap bars rather than other EuroFighters with over the shoulder restraints and I greatly prefered it. You don't get headbanging and the shoulder harness and you have more freedom of movement in the train. It was much more comfortable than I expected.

I have almost pooped myself on Tatsu due to the forces some of the turns exert on your body pushing you outward, combined with the height. Phoenix is a little bit interesting, I had to hold onto my g/f as she isn't that big and was convinced she was going to fly out at some points, but I wouldn't want them to change a thing.

As for insufficient, if there were any then the coaster would have probably been closed by now (unless it's east of Italy), but this freaked me out a bit with just a lap bar and challenged my trust in restraints:

The only time I've ever felt unsafe on a ride was on one of those Ring of Fire type rides on a boardwalk when I was 8. The lapbar thing kept coming loose during the ride, and considering the ride would slow down when it was at the top of the loop, I seriously felt in danger of falling out. I don't know if this is a faulty memory or not, because I refuse to ever go on a Ring of Fire again.

^Same here. I love chair lifts...but I hate them too because the "restraints" are so darn sketchy.

Chairlifts creep me out as well. Phoenix's restraints scare the crap out of me, but that's what also makes it an incredible ride. Clamshell (?) restraints like Goliath at SFOG really scare me. It never feels secure enough, even though I know it is.

Buzzsaw has the U-shape (?) lap bars and doesn't just invert but actually holds you there for a few seconds. Still felt quite safe and it was great having the freedom to move. Excellent design, makes me want to try more Maurer-Sohne coasters.

Heh, the only time that I felt unsafe on a ride due to the harness was I think at Indiana Beach on one of their little metal fair-like things. My buddy and I sat down, and the attendant who had been closing the lap bars down because they were controlled by a locking mechanism on the outside of the car somehow so you couldn't pull them down yourself for whatever reason didn't, and he pushed our car out onto the track. We shouted at the attendant to close it, and he waved at us.

We both held on like crazy the whole ride, and when we hit the brakes for the other attendant to get us off, he unsuccessfully tried "opening" the already opened restraint, and then glared at us like we somehow did it.

Didn't exactly leave me with a great feeling about that park's ops.
