cfc Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Phew! That took a while. Ted, once again, thanks for the help on CoasterFanatics. My top for 2007: The Phantom's Revenge (it just made the greatest impression on me--the most pleasant surprise of the year). My bottom for 2007: Great American Scream Machine (not a surprise at all). It was really tough to rank the coasters in the middle.
downunder Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I emailed Mitch about adding the new half pipe at Wet'n'Wild and the Toboggan at Little Amerricka.

niiicolaaah Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Yay finally... unfortunately I just added 10 steelies to my count this weekend, 1 of which will be in my top 10.... I guess I have to be good and not rank them!
DerekRx Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 I sure don't like how Ted's helper now randomizes your ridden list, makes it a lot tougher to find the stuff you've ridden for a more accurate ranking. It takes too long when your count is so large!
SharkTums Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 ^^Nicole, I think you can add in your new steelies. I mean, the poll JUST came out, and it's still January. Count away!
larrygator Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^^Thanks for pointing that out Derek. I never used Ted's poll before this year and was underwhelmed after two years of hearing how much easier it would be. It least this explains why it took so much longer than expected while searching for coasters when sorting.
Erik Johnson Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Yay finally... unfortunately I just added 10 steelies to my count this weekend, 1 of which will be in my top 10.... I guess I have to be good and not rank them! Hmmmmm.....I wonder which yellow colored coaster that would be.
hemmy Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 The way I ranked: 1. Maverick 2. Nemesis 3. Superman: Ride of Steel 4. Millennium Force 5. Kraken Last. Manhattan Express
downunder Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I did the hard work a few years ago and put my list together by deleting everything I hadn't ridden and then arranging them in order. Since then I just add the new credits, though that job was much larger this year. Bring on the Ride of Steel versus GeForce poll riggers war. My ballot at the moment has two newbies to my top ten from the midwest trip, and I've had a mjor rethink about some ratings right through my list. Here is my top 30 at the moment, though I may change my mind: 1. Superman - Ride of St (SF New England) 2. Favorite Wood Coaster (El Toro) 3. Maverick 4. Top Thrill Dragster 5. Millennium Force 6. X 7. Nitro 8. Magnum XL-200 9. Phantom's Revenge 10. Superman Escape (Warner Bros Movie World) 11. Raptor 12. Storm Runner 13. Flight of Fear (Kings Island) 14. XCelerator 15. The Chiller-Robin 16. Tatsu 17. Dueling Dragons-Fire 18. Kingda Ka 19. Incredible Hulk 20. Dueling Dragons-Ice 21. Kraken 22. Batman The Ride/Clone 23. Goliath (SFMM) 24. Vortex (Kings Island) 25. Raging Bull 26. Wicked Twister 27. Deja Vu (SFMM) 28. Deja Vu (SFGAm) 29. Gemini 30. Riddler's Revenge
alpengeist04 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Bring on the Ride of Steel versus GeForce poll riggers war. LOL. I'm sure there will be a few, but it seems people are more passionate about the El Toro versus Voyage war. ...or should I say ridiculous.

No, I was thinking more of the AWESOMENESS that is the Dragon Wagon at Old Town.... just kidding.
texcoaster Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 The only thing I don't like about the steel poll is the grouping of clones. I understand that it makes filling out the poll MUCH faster (my ride list is close to 400 steelies), but I don't like not being able to distinguish liking one clone much more (or less) than another. Not all Batmen are created equal... and there are some SLCs that I will ride again and others that I would help destroy if given the chance.
CoasterFanatic Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 I sure don't like how Ted's helper now randomizes your ridden list, makes it a lot tougher to find the stuff you've ridden for a more accurate ranking. It takes too long when your count is so large! I am with you Derek. It is an insane process when there are so many coasters in your count. I still haven't even done mine. The randomize was a feature that I talked about with Mitch for the last couple of years because so many people leave a lot of the coasters in Alphabetical order creating an extreme bias. Not so much a problem on the wood ballots, but it was a big problem last year with the steel ones. Always looking for ways to improve the process though and your comments have been noted. Next year, I would like to do drag-drop, where you can pull the coasters over one-by-one and place them in the proper order. Anyone have any comments or think this is a better way to go about it?
larrygator Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Ted - I understand Mitch's concern and why the randomization occurs. I just didn't realize it would be the case. It's just that everyone puts you and your application up on a pedestal and you let me down. Drag and drop does sound like it would make the process saner.
Moose Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^^Perhaps group by parks, with the actual order of the parks randomized? I like how Mitch is not releasing the ballots until after the results are posted. My list changed quite a bit with Abismo, Spanish Supes, Dragon Kahn, and yes, even the pickpocket Baco making into my top 20. Ramses being missing didnt matter too much for me since it made me terribly ill. Me not ranking it will probably help it. I still have no idea why I went from enjoying it to on the verge of puking all of a sudden.

Yeah, I figured that was the reason for the randomization. Maybe you could just have them all sorted alphabetically for the ranking step, as opposed by alphabetically by park (which is how I thought it was done in previous years). Or maybe add another step where you get to group them to your liking before sorting them more. Sorta like a grading system A-F or 5-1 or something.
ginzo Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Next year, I would like to do drag-drop, where you can pull the coasters over one-by-one and place them in the proper order. Anyone have any comments or think this is a better way to go about it? What about putting text boxes next to each coaster where you can just type a number? This would allow people to use the grouping method. I tried using your app this year, but had to abandon the effort because I group. I can't individually rank all those coasters.
CoasterFanatic Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^ Noted. // Next year this will definately improve. Little late now for the steel poll.,
spaceace12 Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hey Ted, I don't know if it has been fixed or not, but THBS at Six Flags St. Louis wasn't on there when I did mine.
ginzo Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^ Noted. // Next year this will definately improve. Little late now for the steel poll., ThankYouVeryMuch.
ParkTrips Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Hey Ted, I don't know if it has been fixed or not, but THBS at Six Flags St. Louis wasn't on there when I did mine. ugh. This is why people should be required to read the ballot. Its under the category of Fav Gerstlauer Spinn. I like the poll to have as much participation as possible, but I wonder if the additional accuracy and value of the poll that increased participation provide are lost when the intelligence level required to fill it out is significantly diminished.
Scaparri Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ^Yeah, but in his defense, the Fav Gerstlauer Spinn category was just recently added. It was missing the first few days the poll was up. And even though it's been added now, THBS at SFFT and Timberland Twister are still specifically listed on the ballot itself, not just the category description.
larrygator Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 and Dragon's Fury is listed in the "Fav X SC2000/3000" section but also has it's own listing.
SharkTums Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 Guys, Mitch is a very nice guy. Email him NICELY with any mistakes or omissions, and he'll fix it! As for my ballot. I actually haven't decided if I want to do one or not. It seems like a lot of work, and I always end up annoyed at the end! I also agree with people that it seems with Ted's helper anyone with half a brain cell can now do the poll and it seems like it's dumbing down the results. *Note this is not a dig at Ted at all...just all the idiots who couldn't figure out the poll without it!
