dubaidave Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 I finally managed to get up to the Dubailand sales Centre the other day and took loads of pics. Here is a taster of what is to come at the wonderful world of Dubailand. Ready to go inside and check out the model? Check back very soon for that update. These tigers are from Dubai zoo. They have a much better life here A couple of the promised Tiger Shots. No, The track is just for show Could this be the very first POV shot from Dubailand? Still outside The car park is looking pretty good. This is the first time I have been through these gates when the place is open.
Steffen_Dk Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 This is looking more than amazing. I've never seen so much (and extremely beautiful) theming. The elephants at the parking lot looks so real, and is it a dinosaur foot print I see on the road?
coasterdude5 Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Great update. I had to double-take at that first shot of the coaster model. Seemed real to me.
FLIPDUDE Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 No model pics? Dave, you tease... What I'm curious about is how is the construction on the park itself going? Parts of it should open up (relatively) soon, but as far as I know the sales center, the auto race thingy and small unimpressive bits of the global village are the only things currently in existance.
downunder Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 That is just bizarre, the full sized coaster track. That is like a place in Vegas that has what looks like a wood coaster on it's roof, an associate of mine while very inebriated tried getting that "credit".
SharkTums Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 ^Thank goodness! I was getting so tired of having stupid people ask me "did you ride that wooden one in Vegas?", then having to explain to them that it wasn't real, and then being told that I was wrong! As for Dubai...I'm still waiting for some 'real' credits!
djrappa Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I actualy know the construction manager for the park but unfortunately don't have any overseas contact details for him
dubaidave Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 Here are some pics inside the sales centre and of the huge model More to come soon Wood Aviation City This is the sales centre Jolly Jolly. This is actually a hotel that makes up part of the AL Bawadi development These are general close ups from the model. If I know what an individual project is I will name it. If there is no caption then I do not know what the project is.
darklingscribe Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Is that a model of just the park? or is that like the planned entertainment district of all of Dubai?
the sound Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Some bizarre looking theming, and the Woodie looks really strange as well, i assume it isn't going to be the layout for it.
FLIPDUDE Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 ^^Dubailand is more than just an amusement park, it's going tobe several amusement parks, movie studios, theme parks, and other amazing entertainment facilities(such as the snowdome) Together it will be about the size of Dubai itself. There is a page with about a million pictures of the model(almost all of them of different parts of the model! Thats the scary part!) over here if any of you are interested. I found myself gawking at that model for days. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=107822 Some examples from this page: Snow World Sports City Al Bawadi(A whole street full of the world's most famous landmarks) And there's so much more. Took me 3 days of surfing that page just to see the most of it. I think I still havent seen all the pictures. ^The layouts and scales in the model aren't accurate. there are alot of layouts that dont make sense(log lfume wiht twisting lift/drops, a wave swinger about a million times bigger than the carousel next to it, etc.)
darklingscribe Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 The enormity of it all is mind boggling. I wonder when it'll be finished... 2020? Dubai is really trying to become the vacation capital of the world isn't it.
FLIPDUDE Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 ^They have to. Their economy depends on it. As for the opening date, seeing as Dubailand is a whole bunch of different areas and stuff, it doesnt ahve one specific date. Some areas are already open(the global village, the sales center, the auto race track) And some it will take years to finish, whent hey ahvent even started yet.
darklingscribe Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I wonder how tight security will be when it is all finished.
sam06pr Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 This is what probably what Walt Disney imagine as being the world of tomorrow, just not in Dubai. I really am impressed and amazed at these models. I just do not think they should of gone too big. Here they are building and building, spending and spending, gaining and gaining, while people around the world are dying out of hunger, diseases, etc, and here is this lace not really caring for others. This is just going to make this place more rich that what it is. I do love the theme for some of the attractions, I wish we could see more of that here in the states
Adrenaline_Rush Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 I can see this blowing up in there face, there spending alot of money here, I almost expect the locals to be taxed like wildfire just to pay for this.
Airtime&Gravity Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Al Bawadi won't look like that, as the original model were more for shock value. Not even Dubai would build two Burj Dubais as well as duplicates of the next X number of the world's tallest buildings. Here is what it will actually look like: The only replica to my knowledge will be the Eiffel Tower(this might be somewhere else in the complex, and it will actually be taller than the original Eiffel Tower.
FLIPDUDE Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 You apparantly don't know the story behidn Dubai. The reason they're going so big and spending so much money is in order for them to not become one of those starving nations themselves. Dubai's economy runs on oil, studies show tha tby 2014 theyll run out of oil,s o the crown prince decided to make Dubai the msot amazing city in the world so the economy will run on tourism. And it has to be as big and expensive as possible because even nwo that they have one of the worl'ds most luxurious hotels, the world's tallest tower, artificial islands, and a million amazing projects under construction, most people still have no clue what or where Dubai is. They pretty mcuh have a whoel lot of moeny and a limited time to spend it.
Airtime&Gravity Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Adrenaline_Rush, the citizens of Dubai/UAE don't pay taxes. In fact, I think the government mays them because they have so much money, and the government also provides free healthcare and the like. Dubai looks absolutely amazing, and even though Al Bawandi won't look like the original model(which imo would have looked bad), it is still going to be an amazing part of Dubailand. My only concern is that they will have trouble convincing Europeans and Americans to go there due to its location. Oh well, less people in line in front of me when I go.
TexTitan01 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 It just blows my mind how supermassive Dubailand will be when it is finished. It looks like it would be a park out of a dream of mine, but I cant believe that all of everything that was in the model is going to actually be built and running within my lifetime. Management in Dubailand is going to have to be like 12-star, theres going to be so much going on all the time the man in charge is going to need to have nerves of steel just to keep the park under control! (Just my opinion) Heres to Dubailand having a successful construction process and an even more successful Attraction when it is finished
BeemerBoy Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 This thing really does look pretty interesting. Very ambitious, but even with the amount of money they claim to have over there, alot can happen in the world between now and whenever they evision this grand project actually coming to fruition. Markets collapse, wars happen, the lower class slaves building this stuff can rebel, etc. etc. I'm not saying you won't ever see some, or even all of the stuff that's currently in models and renderings, but I'm not willing to bet the house on this project just yet. I wish 'em all the luck though.
dubaidave Posted January 21, 2008 Author Posted January 21, 2008 I will post a few more pics of the model and inside the sales centre then will answer some of the questions. You exit through a nicely themed tunnel. Restless Planet will be the first park finished in mid 2009 The interior is well themed as well Here's a close up of the King Kong Roller Coaster in Universal Studios. We move away from the main model This looks familiar.
