Yay for some Warm Bodies love!!!! The book was hilarious, and the movie trailer at least seems to do right by the book...unlike a certain other Zombie movie coming out this summer that I'm mad about!

^ I finally read Warm Bodies based on your suggestion and absolutely loved it. Less excited about World War Z since I've heard it doesn't look like the book at all. I need to read that next.

WWZ is a series of interviews explaining how people survived " World War Z". Very good book and I recommend it to anyone.

Honesty, the only movies I'm really excited to see are Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3, and The Great Gatsby.

I'll probably end up picking up most of the other stuff at redbox.

Thanks to Skyfall, I developed an interest in the James Bond movies a while back. I now have some of them on Blu Ray, thanks to both Xmas, and a big sale of them at Best Buy when Skyfall came out.

Goldfinger- Classic. Nothing else can be said that hasn't been said before about this one.

Thunderball- Very solid Bond film. Great underwater scenes, and exceptional John Barry score.

The Spy Who Loved Me- Easily the best one of the Moore Era, with a terrific theme song by Carly Simon. Plus, it has Jaws! Who doesn't love Jaws?

Moonraker- This one's a lot of fun. It gets ripped by fans as being the worst of the Bond movies, but I think Octopussy is WAY worse than this one. Moonraker's at least entertaining...plus, more Jaws!

For Your Eyes Only- Another one of Moore's good Bond movies, and his most down to Earth. I loved the performances from Julian Glover and Topol, along with Sheena Easton's theme song.

Goldeneye- The only Pierce Brosnan Bond movie I ever gave two honks about. Brosnan definitely has the suave factor down as Bond, but of all his films, this one definitely had a more interesting story than the others. A young Sean Bean as 006 is a definite plus as well.

Casino Royale- The first one with Daniel Craig, of course, and boy does it hold up after 6 years. This franchise needed a breath of fresh air, and this film delivered just that, giving us a hard-nosed Bond, and an environment that is fantastic, yet somehow more realistic at the same time.

I'll definitely be getting Skyfall when it comes out too.

^ I never got why everybody loved the Pierce Brosnan Bond movies so much. Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies were great. The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day are two of my LEAST favorite Bond films.

I think Timothy Dalton get's short changed. I really like his take on Bond even though the movies he was in weren't the greatest. Why they let John Glen continue to direct movies after For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy is beyond me.

Posted (edited)

^License to Kill (Dalton's second and last outing) was a good idea for a Bond flick, but the movie was hampered by a lower budget and weak execution (no pun intended--well, maybe it was). I'm not a fan of Daniel Craig, but Skyfall was pretty good.

^I thought The Living Daylights was one of the best Bond flicks by far, very eighties but great plot and action sequences.

Having watched the series start-to-finish not that long ago, my 'best of' would be:

- From Russia with Love

- Goldfinger

- On Her Majesty's Secret Service

- Live and Let Die

- The Man with the Golden Gun

- The Living Daylights

- Goldeneye

- Skyfall

My 'steer clear' list includes Thunderball, Octopussy, A View to a Kill and Quantum of Solace.

My favorite Bond flick is Goldfinger (mainly because Goldfinger is a great villain, Honor Blackman is one of the best "Bond women." and Sean Connery was the best Bond). I'm also a booster of On Her Majesty's Secret Service--George Lazenby may have been a bit lacking, but he wasn't disgraceful as Bond, and it's the flick that's most faithful to Fleming.

I think Roger Moore gets a bad rap. Yes, his Bond flicks were sillier, but that's the direction the producers wanted to move the series (action comedy). I'm very fond of Live and Let Die because it was the first Bond movie I ever saw in a theatre, but The Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only were the best Moore Bonds. I think Moonraker is the worst of the series, though--with Quantum of Solace a close second (just a mess).

^ I respectfully disagree. I really don't know why Moonraker gets bashed the way it does compared to other Bond movies...It's dumb, yes, but the fun kind of dumb. I guess it goes back to people thinking that James Bond shouldn't be in outer space...well, it's not like the Bond series was seriously grounded in reality anyway.

Frankly, I thought Yaphet Kotto was the only good thing about Live and Let Die, other than the theme song. I found the rest of it rather dull and stereotypical. Plus, it has that annoying Southern Sheriff, who also shows up in The Man With The Golden Gun, which I also found much less watchable than Moonraker. Do I need to even mention Octopussy again? I've never even been able to sit through all of that one.

Posted

^I agree that J. W. Pepper never should've been in Man with the Golden Gun. That one had a great villain in Christopher Lee, yet they brought back the redneck sheriff and had Bond fight Tattoo at the end--what a waste. What I really disliked about Moonraker was how Jaws went from a dangerous (if comic) adversary to a love-struck buffoon. And I think Octopussy, while hardly top drawer, is underrated (especially when compared to Never Say Never Again, the rival Bond flick that came out at the same time).

Roger Moore is hit or miss with me, mostly hit.

I just think the mistake with Dalton was having stories that were probably more "Roger Moore Bond" stories with a different actor that wasn't Roger Moore.

I think Lazenby would have been a great Bond if given the chance, but he's even admitted he screwed up. Overall, I think they've done a really good job picking "Bonds" but sadly it seems some stuck around too long and some of the writing hasn't been great.

Chuck, totally agreed about Quantum of Solace. All things considered I think it's the worst Bond movie. Maybe if you looked at it as an individual movie Die Another Day is worse, but sandwiched in between the greatness that was Casino Royale and Skyfall it really makes it stick out.

All that said, I really wished I would have seen the series on Amazon the day they had the whole collection for $100 on BluRay (including SkyFall which they will send when it's released) before Xmas. Hopefully something similar will come up again soon.
