Goliath at SFMM Deemed 'Unsafe'

Recommended Posts

I think we should accept the fact that nobody can live without a cell phone.

I can live. I do not have a phone, and do not plan on getting a phone anytime soon.

I just hope that this will finally put some pressure on SFMM to do something about the cell phone problem. But knowing SF it will probably just continue happening anyways.

Hmmm.....back when I worked at a park, it was an automatic final warning if we were even caught with our cell phone on the platform with us, yet alone actually using it. Mine stayed in my backpack all day so I could check messages on breaks. Amazing how that works.

Really is amazing, ain't it! I work 9 hour retail shifts somedays, at a job that I HATE. I stay there because the money is good, the hours are incredibly flexible, it's highly convenient, and finding another job now might be problematic in getting the time off that I need this summer. But I despise it, and dread going in everyday. Anything to distract me from the mindless tedium and hatred for the place, work, and some of my colleagues, would be MUCH welcome. And I'm one of these people who feels like her arm has been cut off when her phone battery is dead. But I would NEVER consider having my phone on my person at work, even though it could be easily concealed. We also have an accessible shop line, but being caught using it for personal calls (except for with permission and whilst on a break) once gets an automatic warning, second time is dismissal.

As I say, I always have my phone with me, but as soon as I walk in that door, as much as I hate my job, I'm in customer service mode, and even if I had my phone on me and was running the shop alone, as I do some days, I would never in a million years use my phone in the store. And all I do is sell products and occasionally dish out food, I'm not in control of anybody's safety or peace of mind in any way the way ride-ops at parks are. Really, even if they're capable of running the ride in their sleep, and the safety thing isn't an immediate issue, it would certainly affect my peace of mind and comfort if somebody in charge of a powerful machine that currently encases my body was chatting about their social life instead of giving their 100% attention and care to ensuring my safety.

They blacked out after the ride? OMG, let's all sue.

God, I hate this kind of report. It scares people. The wrong way. ASO is idiotic. They use it as a source, yet it has no credentials whatsoever. It's like using a Wikipedia page as a reference in your dissertation. It just doesn't work.

And the peeps who blacked out? So what? No one gives a sh!t. People grey out on intense rides. It happens. I can guarantee that more 18 people have greyed or blacked out on Goliath and even more have done so on Titan. If they thought Goliath was too much, I'd like to see these "18" brave Dragon at Adventureland in the back row.

Like the rest of you, I do agree that using a cell phone at a public workplace is completely unacceptable. If there's an emergency, at least one involved person should have enough mental capacity to call Park Ops or PR or something and have them contact the employee in question.

I did find immense pleasure in the fact that the last 30 seconds of the FOX report were spent goofing off in front of LA.

Has anyone at the ASO actually done any research? It seems that you blew everything out of proportion. Goliath's helix is designed to cause greying out, and this is the fault of the manufacturer, not the park. If you hjave a complaint about the "centrifuge", take it to Giovanola. Second, Tatsu's pretzel loop. This is supposed to be powerful. Bolliger and Mabillard designed it this way. I'm certain their lawyers would be delighted to hear that you cared about random brainfarts. Third: Viper's OTSRs. Yes, these are uncomfortable. The ride was designed in 1988 by Arrow, which is now bankrupt. And the heat? It's SoCal. It gets that hot. Deal with it and drink water, for Chance's sake. Let's see here... anything else? Riddler's Revenge hurting males? This might be because the guests in question did not adjust the restraints properly. In all, your report is a load of BS.

My "guest complaint" to the ASO.

They actually did make a good point there, but they didn't realize it. A major factor for people blacking out on Goliath and Tatsu is that they are dehydrated, which is caused by the fact that it can get very hot and dry at SFMM, there isn't much shade, and the drinks are incredibly expensive.

I used gray out on Goliath all the time until I started making sure that I drank plenty of water whenever I was at SFMM.

It's cute that you would go out of your way to write all of that. But I really did laugh when I read your "complaint." Nobody in their right mind would take that seriously, just by the way you worded everything and used "enthusiast" abbreviations and cited ride manufacturers like they mattered. Into the third sentence, I would have discarded your comment.

Maybe we can all submit complaints from inanimate objects? I'll be a Christmas gingerbread man! (oh, god that sounds so good right about now!)

Anyone else want to submit a complaint as a box of legos or a roll of masking tape?

I'm going to complain as a reincarnated Goliath... i am very upset that both ASO and SFMM are smearing my name. Its bad enough people named a claymation dog after me and made me a pet to someone named after that insufferable midget David.

Yeah, i said it... David was a midget.

The whole of the old testament was written by midgets.

I was only 5'8".... not a GIANT. Though i did go buy dinosaur costumes and rampage through tiny town on occasion, but its because they were asking for it.

The amazing thing was the Leprechaun's... those guys were titans.

The FOX news broadcast crew was hilarious! After giving about a 2 min. complaint list, they go on to talk about how much fun they had in a toyota grand prix show and how John Sally is a riot. The other news anchor then goes on to complain how tired she is, and the other news anchors tell her she has an easy job. Oh yeah they're defineatly professionals

As for the complaints, there is no real way the park can enforce people to read the signs. As stated before, it is not SFMM's fault, it is the guests fault.

As for Goliath, they mentioned people blacking out, but to me it was not really that big of a deal. I might not have experienced the black out sensation as much as others, but to me the black out sensation lasted maybe 3 seconds at most. To me there is nothing to complain about in terms of the black out sensation because the ride ops cannot do anything about it.

Personally I thought the video was very funny! I mean seriously they are X-treme thrill rides. You have to expect strong forces on theme. Why do people complain when the ride just does what it is suppose to do? But the video it's self was very entertaining and had a lot of good Goliath shots!

I think you should be submitted into padded room. Why do you take your ridiculous persona of a dragon into the real world! Please for the sake of mankind keep that to yourself!

How clueless are we? Theriantropes exist. If yo cannot see past my species, then you should be bantronned for harassment.

I have a final research paper to write for my English class. The topic can be on anything we want it to be about. Since I am leaving on a trip to Knott's Berry Farm and Magic Mountain on Sunday, I figured I would write it about the safety of Magic Mountain.

I plan to get a lot of information from websites and other library sources concerning the safety of Magic Mountain compared to other parks and also write about my personal experience there this week.

Then I will form my opinions about if I feel it is safe or not and write my paper with the evidence to support it. I will also include counter-arguments and address these. Anyway, it sounds like an essay I will actually be interested to write for once and I will post a copy here once I have completed it in a couple weeks.
