As for the drop in capacity issue, just FYI, I've never known SoB to run 3 trains, EVER. I might be wrong, but the entire time I worked there, they never ran more than 2 trains.

SoB was made for 3 trains, but I don't think it can run more than 2. I know the first year of SoB it had train 3 was on the transfer track.

^ My thought exactly!!! Intamin Woodie trains are nice they are soooo comfortable!!!

Part of that comes from the prefab track though.

Put an Intamin train on a poorly built ride like SoB and it's still going to hurt a bunch.

Though much less then those damn G-trains.

I may be wrong, but isn't there a woodie in europe thats made by the same people as SoB, but uses the intamin trains?

I think i heard it didn't help at all...

Coaster Express

Been on it myself. Horrible ride!

I still don't understand how this would work, considering SOB's original track gauge is still a lot larger than a standard wooden coaster's.

It just seems like what some people are calling "track modification" sounds like what would be almost a total rebuild to me.

I think it is a total rebuild, of the track. The rest of the structure will be preserved. I believe the claim that redoing all the track is cheaper than ripping this thing out. SOB is MASSIVE. Heck, just disposing of the wood would be a feat.

^I thought Maureen Kaiser said at Eastcoaster or something, that they would be modifying the new trains to fit SoB's guage, not retracking the entire ride to fit the new trains. Seems like that would be the cheaper way too go, but who knows, plans may have changed.

Well guys.. I'm sorry to say.. But it's half official, the gerstlauer pain trains are going to SOB. They are modifying the cars to fit the gauge of SOB's track, so I guess we can see where it goes with that. I doubt it will ever operate again though.

I feel sorry for Kings Island dealing with all these un-necessary SOB problems.

If the ride was built well and used the correct trains in the 1st place, there would be no problems maintaining it.

We will all have to wait and see what Kings Island management decide to do.

SOB will open but only when it is 100% safe, could be later this year or for next season.

There was a video of an interview with maureen kaiser at an exclusive event at kings island....and I am afraid to say she pretty much confirmed the G-Trains...

I really can't see SOB making it past 2010 or so now.

Does anyone know if it's a bad idea to modify the gauge on trains to something different than what they were designed for? Isn't this usually the sort of situation where manufacturers tell the customer that they're on their own if they do?

You know they're going to get creamed in court if there's another accident and it comes out that they're using trains in a way that was not part of Gerstlauer's design. I can't believe that they're going cheap ass with this giant heap of liability. Another accident is going to make them look so negligent.

I'm honestly afraid to ride it with G-trains. I don't mind them on an out-and-back coaster so much. Its when they hit the turns that it really sucks. I probably wouldn't mind them if they just redesigned the lap bars so that they don't break your femurs.

I wouldn't expect anything. I bet they just got the cars and refitting them to fit the bigger gauage may take a while. Also, don't deny it till you tried it...you never know, the G Trains could be the best thing to happen to the ride.

Impossible.

The best thing to happen to the ride would be a wrecking ball.

Hahahahaha. That would make for an awesome video.

I'm certainly going to try SOB with the new trains. If it hurts too much, I won't ride it after that.

I agree that this ride is beyond any hope of being fixed into something good. They used a third rate manufacturer, and are paying the price for going cheap.

Does SOB create a line? yes

so will it ever be taken down? We'll have to see how it stays up this year w/ new trains and track. If its reasonably reliable, itll be up forever
