RCoasterny Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Here's the article: http://www.the-signal.com/?module=displaystory&story_id=34818&format=html Since parking at SFMM costs $15 and up, it was an easy target for a robbery since a toll booth would have a large amount of cash on hand. The easy access to I-5 made it easier for a get-away. Now if parking was only $5-6 or even FREE, this robbery wouldn't happen in the first place!
fmulder21 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 When we had SF in Houston there was alway 2 or 3 cops on each side...
Ccron10 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Wow. $15 for parking, and I thought $7 or $8 at Hershey or Dorney was expensive! SFMM really needs to lower their parking prices, if there isn't that much security at the parking tolls, they are like sitting ducks for robbers. Also, don't dream on SF making their parking prices free, since they are a large corp. and are in debt, they need all the profits that they can make.
rollermonkey Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Parking at Tokyo Disney Resort: 2000 yen. (The lot fills up quite frequently.) Most other Japanese parks charge 1000 yen.
Ccron10 Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Correct my math knowlege is I'm wrong, but since it's 1000 to 2000 yen, then that would equal $1 to $2 in US money. Or is it $10 to $20?
waterviper Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 The very second I read this topic heading I just knew it had to be SFMM!!
Shockwave Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 I'd be lying if I said I was surprised. Magic Mountain had 2 cop cars parked out front of the booths when I was there, but I'm pretty certain they would have nothing to do with business security.
robbalvey Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Wow. $15 for parking, and I thought $7 or $8 at Hershey or Dorney was expensive! I seriously don't get the complaint around the parking price. Yeah, it's expensive. But it's MUCH cheaper than parking at most sporting events, concerts or even spending a day at a big city. I think I paid like $20 to park in NYC for a couple of hours last time I was there. Parking is $15...big deal. Your lunch at the park will probably be more expensive. Deal with it. --Robb "Hell, it's $13 for a day of parking in our office complex!!!" Alvey

Alvey Well, Excuuuuuse me for comparing parking prices to parks such as Knoebels, Seabreeze, Martin's Fantasy Island and Marineland!
mcjaco Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^^ I was thinking the same thing Robb. If I drive to work, which means I must have been hit in the head with a blunt object, I end up paying $22 in a "cheap" lot for the day. Matt "I'll watch your car for $15" Jacobs
SharkTums Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^^If you're going to 'compare' you should compare similar parks. I don't EVER want to see Knoebels and SFMM in the same sentence again!!!
BarryH Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^From now on, I'm comparing SFMM, Williams Grove, and Uncle Bernie's! Whoo-hoo! Speaking of parking, Universal Orlando charges $10, but you get to park in a parking garage. Unless you get level 5, you are able to park in a nice, shaded area. Heck, that beats Six Flags hands down, where you get to park on asphalt and you're lucky you get a non-cracked area!
SharkTums Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 To get this back on topic... OMG!!! Why would someone in a BMW rob a parking booth!?!?!? Too funny!
arrowfanman Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^ Because when the attendant is 15 years old, it literally is like taking candy from a baby. *cough* -Jahan
jarmor Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 To get this back on topic... OMG!!! Why would someone in a BMW rob a parking booth!?!?!? Too funny! To pay for it!
larrygator Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^^^I'm all for parking garages at all space challenged parks as a capital improvement. However SF would probably jack the rices up to $25 a pop. I'm still waiting for SF to offer a parking pass valid for all SF parks.
jarmor Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 probably will never happen...they will loose too much money.
hectordelbano Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 Yeah, it's obnoxious that parking is expensive, but you figure that it's just part of the entrance fee. They could just as easily charge $2 to park and $73 for park entrance fee, but then people would say "HELL NAW I AINT PAYIN SEVENTYTHREE DOLLARS FOR NO FRICKIN MAGIC MOUNTAIN" or something along those lines. Like Robb said, try going to an NFL game and see how close you can get to the stadium for less than $20. The cost is going to get passed on to the customers no matter what. Just think, if parking is less expensive, then the churros would be $18.50 instead of $14! And as far as comparing it to parking on an everyday basis, isn't the hourly rate for Manhattan parking lots something around $15/hour? Re-donk. Just some thoughts... P. S. - The parking garage in my downtown is 75 cents per hour, with the first hour free. Gotta love California. I certainly do.

Sir Clinksalot Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 ^ I thought the same thing. Great to see that Sheriff Substation at SFMM doing their job!!!

pkdcoaster Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I used to think $10 was obscene for parking till I saw what parking rates were in downtown D.C.. A couple blocks from the capital is $15 per hour or about $50 a day!!!! JEFF
