pgathriller
Everybody knows that some parks operate there rides at a decent family speed so the whole family can ride. But which parks have you been too that let their rides operate all out. My local amusement has older rides like the paratrooper, yo,yo, scrambler, himalaya, etc and they run them pretty slow. I understand why because they are older model rides and they are more of a family park. When I went to PGA, back in the day when it was a better park, I remember them going all out on some of their rides. Tell us which parks you have been to that let their rides operate all out and which rides they were. *No park I have been to have operated rides like carnivlas do. lol
Canobie Fan
Most parks seem to run flats tame... Most fairs dont mind when someone barff on a ride or after they get off.. Where as most parks do. So I think thats why fair rides seem to be run better. As parks dont want to deal with people getting sick from the rides. larrygator
Of course the non-corporate parks run their flats better. Astroland is great at this. However, the craziest flat at a park was Twister at Williams Grove is asked them to crank it up. Also, The Waltzer at South Pier in Blackpool and they ran their Breakdance almost as fast as Astroland.
Guest
The flat rides at Prater seemed to be cranked up more than a notch.
Canobie Fan
yeah when I was at Prater in 2004 all the flats gave VERY long FUN cycles.. But when you pay 7$ for a ride.. You better get something good!.. And as for WGs Twister ride. I wish I rode it more then once last year
Calaway Park
Though considering who I am it may be obvious but..... Galaxyland. Their top spin rocks.
larrygator
James - for some reason I can't view the video on YouTube - When i was there the ride op ran an insane cycle as I watched - I gave him my ticket and said I wanted the same. He said hold on to the ticket and if i called for him to stop the ride I had to hand in the ticket, otherwise i could keep it. He gave me a 4-5 minutes cycle and i thought my neck would fall off. imbordisux
"Astroland", definitely, and I've mentioned "Rye Playland" several times as a park that runs their rides at 110%.
ECZenith
The manually operated Top Scan at Long Island Adventureland ran for SUCH long cycle and just overall seemed more intense that the two other top scans I've ridden. Also, around 2002 they were running their extremely rare Mondial Supernova to the point where it was nearly flipping upside down. Too bad they got rid of both rides... Guest
Beech Bend has an insane amount of flats. They were all running on crack mode too. We were riding Moby Dick (yes the ride is named that) and this was what the ride-op said...."Just let me know if you need to puke!" We were literally on the ride for over 6 minutes. Also Scat 2 was down right sadistic! Omg what a torture machine! Strickers Grove was running all the rides on insane mode last July 4th as well. The tilt-a-whirl was soooooo much fun! Yeah I was going to say Adventureland Long Island.. But the park got rid of its 2 star rides! Of the 2 topscans I have been on. AdvLands just OWN'D Thopres.. So much better in every way. Also the Surff Dance was running kickass even last year. Its funny.. I went to Adventureland just for the 2 flats they removed last year. Yet its also home to my 200th coaster. rollermonkey
Hey, James, have you ever been to Oktoberfest? I know you love the flats, and that's the time and place for them to be operated at peak insanity. Just curious.
Canobie Fan
Not Oktoberfest.. But I have been to a german fair.. That happened to be at the Oktoberfest fairgrounds. Jump wiht a 8min cycle and fog.. and bubbles!... <3 german fair <
Tmcdllr
If you go on carnival rides you have a deathwish.
ECZenith
I prefer carnival rides to theme park's versions any day. They're mostly run better and have longer ride cycles. I guess I like the gamble a little bit considering most of the rides are assembled by meth addicts.
CoasterFanatic
Although they are not really known for their flats, Kennywood's MAgic Carpet and Wipeout have been very respectable of late.
steel
Adventureland has the best run Falling Star in the universe. It's wickedly fast. Sooooooo much airtime. My arms hurt from slamming into the other side of the seat when I exit. Valleyfair! used to have two of the wildest coasters in the world: Excalibur and High Roller. Excalibur's drop was absolutely insane and High Roller's airtime was unmatched. And wouldn't you know it? Excalibur's drop is now trimmed more than Mean Streak's and High Roller has the slowest trims I have ever rolled over. OMIGOODNESS! How could I forget WoF's Scrambler?! I swear I was on that thing for six minutes! My dad had a full conversation on his cell phone. Also worth mentioning is Geauga Lake's fast-moving Scrambler (as opposed to El Dorado, which should be subjected to a flaming hedgehog of doom for being slow and uncomfortable, IMO). ScottBrown
Butler Amusements in California tends to run all of thier rides at crack speed wherever they set up - As far as an inpark ride I gotta give SCBB credit for the ride cycle on Fireball
bigstevet07
Indiana Beach back in the late 80's early 90's had some insane cycles on their flats. Their version of twister would run forever. They also ran the Octopus forever too. I think their viking ship might have gone the highes on any of them that I have been on, it made me dizzy. I was there the first year they got the Falling Star and that had an amazing cycle too. I am not sure what they run like now since I haven't been there since. pvcoasterguy
Steel, I'd have to agree with you. Adventureland runs their Falling Star all-out. By far one of the best flats I have ever been on--the airtime is amazing. That thing was built to be like that, and it's unfortunate that most parks now run their Falling Stars quite badly (when viewed in comparison to this amazing program). It's still one of the most popular flats in the park, despite its age. Quite the amazing ride--an airtime city. Adventureland runs most of their flats pretty darn well. Their Moser Splash Over sports an amazing program, and it's quite fast and enjoyable. This Moser version of the Top Spin is much more nimble and quick, and sports a better program than nearly every single Top Spin around. Their Moser version of the Frisbee (Sidewinder) is also very good. Adventureland still sports a manually controlled Paratrooper (with levers for the op to control the ride). Their Galleon is pretty good also, in addition to their Breakdance and Tilt-A-Whirl. Adventureland has some great, well-run flats.
bigstevet07
I would agree too. They handle their flats well. That would probably be because the Tornado is only so-so, the Outlaw is actually pretty fun, but the the Dragon needs to be torn down and sold as scrap metal. I haven't been there in about 5 years, but I do remember the breakdance have a great program too.
pvcoasterguy
Tornado is very hit-or-miss. Some days it runs incredibly well, and the next day it will just run okay (or even badly, but that's pretty rare.)
Shockwave
For parks, Chessington used to run Samurai on a great setting, as do Fantasy Island with their TopScan "The Beast" (when they can be bothered). In 2003 the Millennium Dome had a Winter Wonderland with a Fabbri Booster that ran for a lot longer than Blackpool's Spin Doctor boosters ever did, a TopScan that ran a 7 minute plus cycle (toilet break follwed shortly after), and a couple of crazy Huss Rides. rbpia
the Dragon needs to be torn down and sold as scrap metal. I say we take up a collection, I'll chip in $20 to scrap that piece of crap. rbpia "Come on Krantz family, it's time for a new coaster at Adventureland!"
