DerekRx
Over the weekend I found myself in Connecticut at the wedding of Adam and Ellen, who are now on their honeymoon in Orlando! The wedding was amazing, with a lot of fun at the reception. Since Ellen grew up at Rye Playland and their first "coaster date" was there, they decided to go back after the reception for some pictures. And, since Sunday was a free day for us, a few of us stragglers decided to hit Rye Playland again before heading home. The House of Mirrors offered no challenge at all, as there was only 1 path with no dead ends The Dragon Coaster from afar. The tunnel looks great! Flying Witch, a multi-level darkride with lots of classic gags and great sound A Zamperla mouse with cute tails on the cars The outside of Zombie Castle, one of the park's 3 cool darkrides Walt and Todd prepare for lots of whipping (they probably deserve it too!) There hasn't been a picture of me AT ALL in this thread so far. Gotta change that! Happy now, Joe? Probably the best Whip around One of the few coasters I don't mind the Morgan trains on Dragon Coaster, not too extreme, but loads of fun, and pleasantly smooth Loads of fun on the Family Flyer They don't do construction tours, but these two cannot pass up a kiddie coaster! How convenient that Super Flight is right next to First Aid! Heath and Kim brace on the Rat Cage of Doom Like Super Flight, a Zamperla Volare, hooray! The following morning it was back to Rye for some daytime rides, and credits! Or Zombie Castle! No trip to Rye would be complete without riding some of their awesome darkrides, like Flying Witch Mr and Mrs Hard to pronounce last name on their first coaster ride, Dragon, as a bunch of married fools The happy couple enjoys their first carousel ride together as husband and wife Finally at Rye Ellen gets to pick her favorite horse for pictures (and Playland even let the wedding party and friends ride for free!) Something the ACErs will enjoy, CAKE! Another one Obligatory photo spot with pretty nature Just a few quick shots of the wedding, like this one outside the church as Mr and Mrs Revesz
HCOSurfer90
Looks like you had fun, I love the Dragon, it's surprisingly smooth and has great airtime on the first drop in the back seat. I also love the view. As for Superflight, that things just pure evil.
DerekRx
More pics: Apparently there was a problem with the water level, so right after Walt and Todd got off, they had to shut off the water again (Maybe Todd peed in it) Sally redid this one, 100000000% better than that craptastic Garfield's Nightmare at Kennywood And around 2:30 the Old Mill opened The Double Shot was pretty strong And we didn't fair too well either, but at least it wasn't a Liseberg incident ...Todd and the Future Mrs don't look too dry Well after this splash by Long Island Sound... The log flume was supposed to get us damp, maybe Although fairly new, these bumper cars are pretty speedy and fun Which sadly was closed for Heath Kim enjoys her ride, but Heath is busy thinking about either beer or the Old Mill The Dudes of Hazard Git R Done! And offers great amusement as the ride ops jump onto and off of the moving ride. Look at the way he leans to keep from flying off! One of only 3 derby racers left in the world, this one is definitely the fastest
Shockwave
Rye Playland looks like a nice little park. Makes me think of Southport (or what could have been) with its mix of classics and newish stuff, and the carousel looks a lot like Blackpool's one sat next to Valhalla. I take it that you or Nicole didn't need another Womb Raider ride then!
Canobie Fan
I <3 Rye Playland. Its such a nice small park. Makes me think of Southport :-\! Rye >>>>> Southport
Rugged One
You can officially thank Kim and I for leaving at at 2:10 and allowing the Olde Mill to open at 2:30. Just like we said. Great pics of the wedding. I'm not normally a wedding guy but this one was a blast. I'm really glad we all got to hang at Playland with Adam and Ellen afterwards. That was cool.8)
Meteornotes
Yay for pictures of Derek. And Nicole. That park actually looks like a cool place that I'll have to visit some time. And congrats to Adam & Ellen! dt
disneyfan1313
Awesome trip report! I really enjoyed Rye Playland as well - I just wish I had more time than the two hours I did there. The old mill is seriously the longest dark ride ever. Perhaps its just the random periods of pitch black but it seemed to take forever!
vjgx
Great TR! First off, the Dragon Coaster was my first ever not-a-Dragon-Wagon-or-Jaguar-at-Knotts coaster, and I still love it today. Much much smoother than Ghostrider, which is, ironically, 70 years newer than it. Oh, and yeah... that first aid is a great idea next to Superflight. I was already worried about headbanging when I first saw it -- seeing that first aid made me fear for my life... Luckily, there was CUSHIONING on the head area, so I didn't get a concussion! Yep... Sue
What happened to the plans of going to Lake Compounce? Didn't you want to get beat up by BD? It seems you got more than enough of that with Super Flight being open. I didn't realize Adam and Ellen were going to ride so much at Rye. Unfortunately, we had to bow out early since we were driving home that night. Great pics, Derek! Sue
Hercules
Nice report Derek. I kind of like Rye Playland eventhough it is a slight bit on the ghetto side. The flats are really what make the place. Unfortunately, I didn't hit up the dark rides when I was there this summer. Hopefully I can get on them my next visit. I have to agree that the Whip is by far awesome. But a little tip: the swinging ship is very good too. It is just a short notch off of Galleon at Knoebels in my opinion. ECZenith
Question... during the "scared by the sound" frightfest type event, are the rides operating or just that one haunted maze?
DerekRx
^I think its only the haunted house, none of the other rides will be opened, at least they weren't in years past that I'm aware of.
Slacking
Awesome pics! I did Great Escape and Rye Playland the same day a couple months back. I had fairly high expectations for Great Escape and fairly low expectations for Playland. I came away disliking Great Escape quite a bit, but I absolutely fell in love with Rye. Sure, it is quite ghetto, but The Dragon Coaster is quite fun, and I fell in love with their dark rides. Would definitely recommend this park to anyone. ECZenith
^^ That sucks, I was hoping they'd at least have the dark rides opened. Ah well, there's always next spring...
