deano Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Here is a picture of Magic Mountains park map from a trip i did in September 1992. The big new ride of the time was Flashback and guess what???? it wasnt operating on the day of our visit. Does anyone else have any vintage park maps from any park? I would love to see some more.
thomas2 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Wow I didn't know Psyclone was that old! Anyone knows how it was in the beginning (roughness, speed, out-of-control, etc.)?
TheArchfiend Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 ^ Oh my... something from the early 90s is already considered old?! Man, I must be damn near ancient in age.
thomas2 Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Lol A coaster from the early 90's is old because coasters usually don't have a very long life. You're not old (unless you're like 60 or something, then I'd call you old)
Olsor Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 A lot of good stuff here: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/
Hercules Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 ^Oh my... something from the early 90s is already considered old?! Man, I must be damn near ancient in age. I was at an event at Dorney last year and someone called Steel Force old.
J man Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 It's crazy how much stuff has been added to the park since then.
steel Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 This could be the most awesome piece of CP history I have ever seen. EDIT: Lol, I just noticed this. http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/2001/sfgam2001_2.html "Opens later this year"
sixflagsmagicmountain Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I have some old sfmm maps somewhere, some from the 70's and one from the 80's, if I find them, I'll post them.

deano Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Thanks 'Olsor' for this link http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/ theres some good stuff there. I was certainly freaked out when i went back to magic mountain last year and hadnt been there since '92, they sure did go freakin crazy puttin in new coasters in the last 10 years or so.
Sir Clinksalot Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Wow I didn't know Psyclone was that old! Anyone knows how it was in the beginning (roughness, speed, out-of-control, etc.)? Quite honestly, when Psyclone opened it was the best ride in the park ... at least IMO. When the Northridge Earthquake hit in '94 and the B&M heavy ass trains took their toll ... that's when the ride sucked as it does today.
speedracer Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 ^ Dunno, I remember both my friend and I coming off Psuklone the opening year thinking "that sucked!". Good first drop like now, but the rest was just slow boring and overall "meh". As far as the roughness, I always like to point out a MUCH older woodie up my way that's located just 10 miles from the epicenter of the 1989 Loma Prieta Quake, withstood basically a direct hit from our 7.1 quake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loma_Prieta_earthquake To this day, Giant Dipper is still completely glass smooth and still one of the best woodies around. Proof that Psuklones roughness and suckiness has absolutely nothing to do with an earthquake.
fanatix Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I was going through my collections of park maps (yes I try to keep one to every park I go to) The oldest ones I found were Disneyland 1992 when Fantasmic was introduced, Paramounts Great America 1994 when Days of Thunder was new. I know I have an older Disney map but I could not find it. Other ones that I found that were interesting were a lot of old Marine World Africa USA maps (before six flags took over) and MGM Grand Adventures from 1994.
deano Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 ^ I keep all my park maps too, just cant seem to throw those suckers out. I cant find my Disneyland one from 1992 though (not happy), if possible could you post a pic of it? Thanks
fanatix Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Yeah I will scan it as soon as I get my scanner up and working. Also, a couple months ago, a friend found me a disney map from 1958...I dont know if it is real though.

Hey, can you scan the MGM one too when you get your scanner working? I always wondered what that place was like. Thanks! -amanda
