CPmaverick Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I think we will see a themed ride up to Disney standards at CP before we see a good and accurate weather source . Wait, what's the Weather Channel?
The_Mad_Hatter Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I was looking through an interview with Dick Kinzel the other day, and unless I am misinterpriting this, he is saying the next ride will not be a roller coaster: Q: So I guess the recession sort of slowed down that thrill-ride timetable. What can you tell us about next year's thrill ride, and when is it likely to be announced? A: Just backing up a little bit, the flume ride (Shoot the Rapids) was really due to be introduced last year, but the economy turned. Remember that in November of 2008 the banks crashed. We had a pretty good feeling it was going to be a bad year ... so we put that off for a year. It's going to be a great ride. All thrill rides aren't coasters. It's going to be something that I think the teen market is really going to like. We really plan on announcing that in the middle of August. That's when we have our season passes for next year. Not especially Cedar Point, but in other parks, the season pass business is so big, we try to get a jump. is he talking about next year's thrill ride, or STR?
thrillrider Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Actualy, I found a great weather site... http://www.wxyz.com/subindex/weather They have a nice radar, and they have been right on with the weather for me. Speaking of weather, if you look at that site right now, it looks like cedar point is lucky right now. They dodged a bullet.
CPmaverick Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 ^They're just getting lucky (the weather site and CP). No weather source right now is consistently accurate past a day or two. That info came from one of the meteorological professors at Ohio State. I got curious a few years ago as to why all the weather guys sucked so bad so I asked some questions.
Cavs Fan Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I was at the park today and they added seat belts to the bins on Magnum. They are the same belts that can be found on Woodstock EXpress. They also added some magnets to keep the bins open.
CPmaverick Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Are the seat belts there to keep the lids closed?
Cavs Fan Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 ^Yup. There were also a lot of officers around Magnum today. My friend also found a Marijuana pipe on Mean Streak. They also had to use some of the switchbacks in Mean Streak's Q-line as well. Pretty strange day.

To me it just seems like predicting past the 72-hour mark is only done to appease the average viewer, save for storm patterns that correlate to different models instead of just "the guy in the office's"; it just doesn't look good for planning things ahead. Inevitably my line of work will lead me to this same proud tradition of appeasement, but there you go.
Tbcoasterfan Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 ^Do you know where south of Port Clinton? I'm not sure. I just heard it was moving along where 113 is.
Pingu1651 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 ^Yup. There were also a lot of officers around Magnum today. My friend also found a Marijuana pipe on Mean Streak. They also had to use some of the switchbacks in Mean Streak's Q-line as well. Pretty strange day. Just over the 2 days I was there the lines were so strange...I waited longer for Mean Streak than Top Trill Dragster and Maverick and the same amount of time for Millennium Force. My sister said lines were weird like that when she went on Wednesday. It was just due to general package though. And Cavs Fan, it was obvious they were doing the fearsome 17 challenge: ride all the coasters WHILE HIGH. Someone did it for a TV show but it was edited.
The Raven Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I could see them removing the swinging ship, the group area behind it, and also the stadium. That would open up a nice spot for a beach side woodie. The only problem is the beach entrance there which they could easily move.
thrillrider Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 The only problem with that, is that there is a hotel right next to that group area. I don't think a lot of people want to hear the rattle of a wood coaster keeping them up all night....Unless they are a coaster geek like me.
SharkTums Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 ^Also that group area hosts a TON of groups and they make a crapload of money on the meals they serve in those buildings and pavilions!
Tbcoasterfan Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Agreed I don't see the Coral Courtyard going anywhere any time soon.
Pingu1651 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 I believe someone was mentioning a new cell phone tower a couple pages back... http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/poll/index.cfm Uh-oh
CPmaverick Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Screw the iPhone, I'm using a rotary phone . I bet they're just messing with us (I hope).
Pingu1651 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Why would they mess with the .1% of us that think there may be a possibility of a cell phone tower going up next year.
CPmaverick Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 They do every year a new ride is coming. It's already working .
Vigil Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 When I went to CP a couple years ago, there was a guy smoking marijuana in line for TTD, and no one said anything about it.
phantomfan93 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^ I have seen this multiple times, and also at a couple other parks.
Pingu1651 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^^ That must have been the same guy that left the pipe Cavs Fan saw AND the guy that was smoking at Lakeside yesterday (it's near Cedar Point)!
Tbcoasterfan Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 When I went to CP a couple years ago, there was a guy smoking marijuana in line for TTD, and no one said anything about it. He was getting sky high at 420(ft.)
CPmaverick Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 ^I think he was just Racing For The Sky. Just not the same way everyone else was . A few years ago I actually saw two guys arrested by CP police on Millennium Force's ramp for smoking marijuana. Sandusky really is ghetto.

Parts of it can be.... but how do you know they were from Sandusky?
