philcoaster83
Alpine Coaster named Rodelbahn in Schwarzwald (Black forest). Coaster or not? Some of you must have been on one like this. It has a lift hill It coasts down
thomas2
Anything with a lift hill and some downhill elements is a coaster to me
ECZenith
I would say yes but some will disagree. It's always a matter of opinion bro, but it's not powered and is coasterish in all other aspects.
BeemerBoy
Yeah, someone showed us the newest one in the states recently. Coaster? I vote yes.
Carnage
I'd lean towards yes. The more traditional alpine bobsled I'd probably say no.
apollo210
I say yes, it has a lifthill, its not powered, and it has a coaster track. also, it rellys on gravity.
mr_teisco_delrey
Yes! I've seen on the website that there is also an inverted version. Looked pretty cool.

FlyingScooter
I'd say it is a coaster, though some purests might argue otherwise.
Satoshi
sorta coaster ride i guess coz it has some helices and some dips yeah they're 10 ft tall. alpine bobsled? i wanna give it a shot yeah real i love that kinda bob! then i'm gonna see it as one coaster? NO DOUBT YEAH!
gisco
If you can control your speed, I don't count it as a coaster. All the alpine coasters I have seen have brakes. Thus they are not coasters to me.
Angry_Gumball
I say it is a coaster. Yes, the train may have onboard brakes but look at whizzer...it has an onboard lift mechanism. Otherwise, it's freerolling. You can only control your speed as far as slowing down...but you can't make the coaster speed up any faster than what gravity will allow. BeemerBoy
^ Good point. Every coaster has to slow down at some point, whether it's onboard controls or not, right? Look at the brakeman on scenic railways.
utila
It's definately a coaster! Lifthill an "onboard braker" (Like rutschebanan at tivoli copenhagen, denmark) do it yourself
jamesdillaman
It's a coaster if you want to count it as a coaster. Whatever criteria you want to use is up to you when doing your own coaster count. Personally I don't count them, but you can if you want to, there's no law against it -James Dillaman

Personally I don't count them, but you can if you want to, there's no law against it -James Dillaman Thank you! Most sensible post so far. I'm in the same boat as yourself, I can see why people would count them, but I don't put them on any list. It sure looks like one hell of a scary ride though, I've done a much shorter Alpine Coaster in Stoke on Trent, which is a lot of fun, but the huge European models look amazing. Golfie
I think that I would count it... I woldn't count the type that just goes like a bobsled.
pete4winds
On the one hand, having a lift hill in and of itself doesn't necessarily make a coaster (plenty of dark rides have "lift hills" - yeah, I know it's a stretch, but it's still a fact), but on the other hand, NOT having one doesn't necessarily make a NON-coaster (Ka, anyone? No lift hill there). Most people seem to agree that it's a matter of perspective and personal choice. Me, I'd vote this as a coaster, onboard brake or not, because it certainly meets all the "standard" requirements, but I agree with Golfie that alpine SLIDES, while a blast, are not coasters in the classic sense. Oh, look...200th post. Yay...
CKY Lunatic
I rode the one in Glenwood Springs, CO and counted it. I also took a POV on it. I uploaded it to youtube if anybody wants to see it. Just search "ckylunatic" and you can find it under my username.
