Skyscraper Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Mike (my boyfriend) phoned me and asked me if I wanted to go at La Ronde after his job... why not, it's monday and it shouldn't be crowded ! Boy I was wrong... way to many people... sometimes I forgot that La Ronde is a day camp for Montreal teens, accessible by subway... First, a great ride, the Montreal subway... smooooth.... (rubber tires...) Second ride, the La Ronde unofficial tram ... the city bus between the subway station and La Ronde (about a mile). Yeah ! La Ronde main entrance ! Some 1967 concrete theming... Miniature SUV day at La Ronde... Wep, crowded... Six Flags and cheap shows... The wet t-shirts contest ! Mike is looking way too much serious today Work clothes... Recycling machine for sodas...great idea ! Toboggan nordique... an average-ish wild mouse by Zamperla with seatbelts and slowwwwsssss dispatchs. Ride it first if you come at La Ronde ! Splast boats with seatbelts... 2 boats, a full waiting line... Le Monstre... god this wooden sucks and so is the full queue line with one train on each track... no Monstre for me today ! Still popular, the ride and puke ride or like some people like the call it : L'ovni Goliath entrance... I wish it was the one in Europe. A fun ride, but boring layout and doesn't feel fast at all... my only ride of the day ! (subway and bus doesn't count, no...) For lifts motors enthusiasts only Not a bad line... 30 minutes wait.. I can see the diving show from Goliath's queue.... It really doesn't make sense... 1989 painters costumes with medieval castle ??!?! Me and Goliath... Everybody's watching the diving show... if only all Six Flags queues had a diving show... but concrete and steel is cheaper Another one... I want to show my Theme Park Review t-shirt...lol Another fun thing about Goliath's queue... it's passing under Goliath track between the brakerun and the station. Yeah ! almost my turn... Me and about to get mooned... I mean Goliath... French panckes goodness...mmmmmm Another ride and puke ride... Dragon... and indoor family coaster... supposed to be dark but so much lights gets in... slow and boring but really popular with little kids. I ride the Dragon only if there's no line... Seems like I won't ride it today ! Mmmmmm... Sorbet goodness... Mike is complaining that his ananas sorbet tastes like apples... another Six Flags cheap cut-out ? lol My raspberry sorbet was quite good... Yeah ! A Batman clone ! La Ronde has an amazing setting in the middle of the river by Montreal's skyline... If only I was at Seaworld right now... Another Goliath picture... Monorail and REALLY stupid operations... people are allowed to stay on as long as they want... so nobody is getting off the monorail and the line never moves... it's supposed to be move from A to B.... not for tanning all afternoon ! See ? This is a one hour line for the monorail.... stupid operations ! Splast boats and some theming.. Another Zemperla clone.... the Manitou... way too little capacity for a theme park this size ! New theming area for 2006... the Smoking area with 1967 benches... they demolished the haunted house for that ! The second Boomerang ever made ! People really likes to wait to get hurt on this ride ! La Ronde great team... - Should we call maintenance ? -Should we call security ? - Let's call the union and get it done for the end of next week ok ? Old skyway station The only real theming in the park is in the children area... Signature picture of a Batman clone ! Mmmm.... 2 trains and 5min stacking between trains... I guess Ill skip Vampire too ! Goodbye Vampire... Cobra... this Intamin pre-BM stand-up is rough and shakes like it's gonna fall apart any minute... did once this year and willl wait next year for my next ride... Coolest theme park t-shirt ever ! This is Mrs.Six for children... or Ribambelle.... The only real bargain at La Ronde... 1$ Mr.Freeze.... mmmmmmmmmm Finally....one ride for two hours in the park... the problem with the park is that even if you get there by the opening...no rides will open until 10:30 or 11:00... So the park is full and you have queues everywhere... You have to buy Flashpasses because of their bad operations... Hope that La Ronde will be sold too...
YoshiFan Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I think this TR just made the final decision for me, I'm not going to La Ronde. I'm going to Montreal this week and had considered going to La Ronde but two things I can't stand in parks are horrible operations and long lines both of which it looks like the park has a ton of. Plus it looks like a lot of coasters are clones so I don't think I'll be missing out on much.
Skyscraper Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 If you have the Six Flags pass already, don't miss it ! If you arrive early in the day you should do this if you want to ride everything : First, go buy a flashpass. Use it for Vampire, Goliath, Orbite and Cobra in the afternoon. In the morning, go the Toboggan nordique first then go ride Le Monstre two sides, then Splash boats, Supermanege, Boomerang, Manitou if no or little line. Then go for the Log Flume and Dragon coaster. Spongepop 4D never has a line and don't miss Nintendo dome ! If a ride is broken down, I say don't wait for it too long, mechanics seems to be understaffed sometimes... It's an easy subway ride from Montreal downtown, don't miss it.
SharkTums Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 The picture of the Six Flags employees staring blankly at the knocked over dumpster was hilarious!!!!! I don't know why, it's just so awesome!
YoshiFan Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I'm not a season passholder, if I was, I would most likely go. I guess with Flash Pass it might be tolerable, like you suggested. I don't think my family will want to go anyway though (they are not into amusement parks at all).
larrygator Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Very upset when I don't see a picture of (or a reference to) that fabulous fried dough family member called The Beaver Tail. LaRonde is worth the trip just for the Beaver Tail
CycloneMan Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I love La Ronde! I was so upset that we couldn't go this year. I really just miss Le Monstre, Beaver Tails and Poutine! But I did want to ride Le Goliath. I'll admit, I didn't care much for L'Ovni. But I miss the House of Glass!
ebl Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Cobra...clone of SFMM's old ShockWave! Yeah, I guess a 20-year-old ride would be kinda rough by now. And, yes, a bunch of employees staring at a dumpster tipped over was pretty funny. "Let's see...um...leave it there...or...pick it up." Not exactly a brain buster. Eric
dubaidave Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Flickr is blocked in my country so I cant see the pics, Any chance of you posting them here?
shesaidboom Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Those lines make me sad. I'm going to La Ronde on Sunday night + all day Monday and am not looking forward to having to wait so long for everything. I guess I will be picking up a Flash Pass
rcoasters Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Those lines make me sad. I'm going to La Ronde on Sunday night + all day Monday and am not looking forward to having to wait so long for everything. I guess I will be picking up a Flash Pass Well, on Monday, school is starting for the majority of people (even me). Crowds shouldn't be that bad on that day ! I also went yesterday and it was crowded for no apparent reason . I did manage to ride all the coasters with a maximum waiting of 1 hour for the Monstre. I arrived at the park at 11:30 and left at 8. By 8pm, the people were starting to leave thinking the park closes at 8:30, but it closes at 10:30 !
shesaidboom Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 ^ Good to know, thanks We probably wont get there until 6 or 7 on Sunday, so hopefully we'll get a few rides in on rides that typically have long lines while crowds are lighter. I'm hoping with school starting [i really didn't think it started until September 6th since that's when we start in Ontario] that crowds will be very light on Monday. I'm sure that'll mean one train operations on pretty much everything, but judging by many La Ronde TRs I've seen, that's not just a 'light day' thing.
canada Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Those lines make me sad. I'm going to La Ronde on Sunday night + all day Monday and am not looking forward to having to wait so long for everything. I guess I will be picking up a Flash Pass You dont even need flash pass. I never use flash pass and get to ride all the thrill rides twice if I stay from open to close. The crowds should really be dead monday since schools start. I'd even say sunday wont be too bad. If you want advice on what seat to ride each coaster and a plan of what to do in what order just let me know. Happy to help! By the way I'd love to see how it went... so you think you can do a tr?
rcoasters Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Yesterday, there was 2 trains on Vampire, Cobra and Goliath. It's a pretty rare occurance for Vampire and Cobra, so I was a bit surprised !

Thanks My boyfriend and I will be posting a TR when we get back. We're going to a few other parks after La Ronde, so it'll probably be up in a couple weeks. Sorry for hijacking this thread
msep003 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I went to La Ronde back in 2002 and at that time they just added Le Vampire . The Queue lines wasn't too bad at all i waited like half an hour for le Vampire and i rode Le Montre once because the employees pushed on my lap bar and hurt my legs . This park is OK but i've the the Best Fireworks competition ever in summer .
GURZU Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Wooo, nice photos! La Ronde is a nice park... I like it

Thanks My boyfriend and I will be posting a TR when we get back. We're going to a few other parks after La Ronde, so it'll probably be up in a couple weeks. Sorry for hijacking this thread Best seats: Goliath: Back back back.. HUGE and I mean HUGE difference from any of the oher seats in terms of airtime and speed. Monstre: Front row Track 1. Vampire: Definately Front row Cobra: Front Row although the back is good too. Super Manege: Borderline enjoyable in the back for its small bit of airtime, otherwise it sucks. Boomerang: Choose your seat. The Orbit is unfortunately closed for the rest of the year. Do not miss Manitou and Vertigo... two great flats. The plan I always take and it always works wonders is.. head into the park at opening and take a right from the entrance. Go straight to the monstre track 1 and wait for the front row. Get off and ride the boomerang that is a block away. Next ride Manitou and Super Manege which are in between the Monstre and Boomerang. After that go to Goliath. It should have a 30 minute line right now but it goes fast due to the 2 train operation. Now head on to the other side of the park and ride Vampire. Then hop on the cobra next to it while you're at it. The only good ride reamining is the vertigo. Ride that but just to let you know dispatches take 7-8 minutes, its ridiculous. The reason I dont recommend a flashpass is because its not like its a big park afterall theres only 7-8 thrill rides in the park and only 5 that are actually thrilling so why not get the best of them? When you buy the acces rapide (flash pass) you always have to sit in a middle row. And its only for 5 rides.
Skyscraper Posted August 23, 2006 Author Posted August 23, 2006 Canada : The Orbite was open monday ! It was up and running with people... funny rumor of it being closed for the season but it's not true ! You are right for Goliath, the last row is way better than others (if you like airtime!)
Homer Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 La Ronde, why do some parts of the park look like its still stuck in the 1960's? The cement statues and the Boomerang sign looks retro, but La Ronde looks like a credit whore's paradise.

Jim Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 My Family and I decided to visit LaRonde last Tuesday 8/15 while we were vacationing in the White Mountains in New Hampshire and Old Orchard Beach in Maine. (all 1rst time visits) I don't know if we hit a bad day or what but out of the 78 amusement parks we have been to this was easily the worst run park we have seen. Our shortest wait was 35 min. It took us from 2:00 until 10:30 to ride 7 coasters with the exception of lunch and a ride on the sky tower. Fast pass was sold out but even if it wasn't you could only use it towards 4 coasters in which 1 was closed. I also wanted to ride the ejecter seat (never have done one) but that was sold out. The lines were not that long but the employees could have cared less about moving people through. On the boomerang they would wait until everyone was out of the exit then count off enough people to ride the next train and move them in the waiting area and then open the gates to load. On Goliath they waited until eveyone exited then would let the fast pass people in and once they put all of their belongings in the cubby and got seated in the train they would open the gates and let the rest of us in. Once they finished their conversations with each other they would give a thumbs up. My wife almost panicked in the Dragon line because it had to of been over 100 spiders in the roof of the line and we were moving so slowly because it was only 1 employee working the ride. LaRonde also had the most line jumpers I had ever seen at 1 park but once again the employees could have cared less. Snyder's philosophy must did not make it up to Canada. Goliath was going to be my 300 coaster but I left with 299. I was kind of glad because I really want to forget that day. It is so sad because LaRonde's location is awesome in between the river and by the city. LeMonstre was better than expected but I wasn't expecting much and Goliath was good but easily the most boring of the B&M hypers. I did like the steep lift. I would never go to this park again unless I heard they made some major changes. I did end up getting #300 on Excalibur. It was nothing special but a decent and unique woodie. Funtown was a nice surprise because I had read recently of someone calling the park ghetto but I thought it was a nice little park with no lines and a good place to take my 2 kids. Santa's Village in N.H. was also alot better than expected. Their brochures don't do the park justice.
bgwfreak Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I've never seen much about this park and it looks really nice. Not your typical six flags asphault or at least that's the way it looks from here. I love how HOT DOG is the same in french as english. lol I want me some French Pancackes!!!
