I think you got it right. On Scream, every time i sat close to the fron I get a rough, but forceful ride. Closer to the back is smooth and has less noticeable forces.

 

Kinda strange how Viper also works the same way. Maybe the popular belief that the back of a roller coaster train is painful is false?

I rode Scream twice over my weekend trip, once front row left and once back row right. The front row I noticed a bit of rattle at the bottom of the first drop but nothing else too major. The back row was pretty smooth the whole way through. As for its location, yes the parking lot is unfortunate, they could have at least removed the parking spaces, but I honestly didn't notice during my ride. The line/station has enough to keep your eyes elsewhere and while you're riding most everybody will be focusing on the ride and not "hey look at the parking lot" in my opinion.

Well i haven't ridden Scream at all. But last season me and my friend rode the back of Medusa Twice and we thought it was very smooth and fast. Plus watching the front/middle riders going into the loop while being on the same ride is a experience in and of itself. Either way, I'd be surprised if Scream is actually rough. Medusa has always been decently smooth.

I honestly don't think scream is rough at all. I mean, compared to say viper, demon [CGA], or even flight deck or god forbid we mention Kong at SFDK [bTW I rode it on my last visit back in may, and that will be the LAST time I ride that excuse for a coaster, at least until it gets an overhaul].... anyway, compared to those it is quite smooth.

 

I do like Medusa, but I must say that Scream is my favorite floorless on the west coast. Always an entertaining ride... sometimes forcefull, but almost always smooth in my book, and I actually like the front seat...

Now I may be one of the few, by I actually enjoy Kong. Scream on the other hand seemed like it was falling apart with how much rattling it had...I'd never had such a "B&M Rattle" experience that bad on any other B&M I've ridden.

it is simply amazing how DIFFERENT coaster experiences can VARY person to person... I hate to say it but my last experience on Kong this last may was HANDS DOWN the roughest experience I have ever had on any roller coaster, including most woodies. It's hard to compare though being inverted, but really the only things that come to mind is maybe grizzly before the rehab and ghost rider... even then though...

 

I guess I can admit that scream CAN be rough... FOR a B&M. But that to me is like saying Apocalypse or Giant Dipper can be smooth... for a woodie.

 

 

To change the topic a little bit... I am planning a trip down with 2 co-workers who haven't been to the park in 5-10 years, never ridden X2 [or X]. We are planning to go 2 days during the week of August 22-26... I was thinking Tues/Wed, or Wed/Thurs... Does anyone have any input on crowd expectations that week, and those days in specific? The hours are only 10:30-6, and I am hoping we can hit all the coasters and a few water rides and other flats over 2 days without a flash pass.... obtainable goal?

I would expect probably less than average crowds.\

 

And yes, you more than likely can even get to ride all the roller coasters and water rides in just one day. Long as you keep ahead of the GP, you will be fine.

^^We went that week last year. Many local schools were already in session. It was the quietest I've seen the park. Not to get your hopes up, by 4 pm X-2's line was less than 15 minutes. It was a great time.

I really think B&M has changed what we consider a "rough" coaster. Even if Scream has a bit of a rattle, I've never had anything ofter then good rides on it.

I absolutely agree. Rides like Silver Bullet, Tatsu, Kraken, and Apollo's Chariot are so smooth, the occasional 'jolt' or 'rattle' has some of us passing off otherwise great rides as rough (I've even heard people consider B&M's own Riddler's rough; I mean we're all entitled to out own opinion, but still, WTF) Thanks for spoiling us B&M .

^To be a bit tangential, my friend who I drag to some parks with tells me that he prefers Intamin over B&M because he doesn't like the B&M rattle of some rides we've been on like Hydra, Scream!, Kraken, etc. It's quite peculiar to think of B&M's as rough coasters.

Wow, that's kind of super picky.

 

That's not rattle. Rattle is a Vekoma SLC that sounds like it is totally falling apart as it violently bashes your head into the restraint, you can almost see the wheels flying off the train one-by-one as it lumbers around the track. B&M and Intamin coasters don't really do that.

Scream is a great ride, in a bad location. It's too bad the park has never done anything to face lift the ride or make the area that you walk through to get to the ride look less like a mistake. I remember at a time the ride plaza concrete was spray painted colors of the ride and it looked terrible! The forgotten step-child of all the rides at the park...although I hope they never take it out because I think the back seat is awesome!

 

But I've sat all over the train and never had a rough ride, so I'm not sure what some of you guys are talking about.

People act like if your head touches the OTSR at all, the ride is rough. Stop being such pansies. You want a rough ride? Go across the park to Revolution.

^^My front seat ride was probably as bad, if not worse than Revolution. It was extremely painful, and just horrible. Also, the rattle was consistant throught the entire ride; it is hard to select the worst part, because the entire ride was that bad!

^My front seat ride on Scream was worse than my front-seat ride on Vortex. However, Scream is smooth as glass in the back, and I have only ridden Vortex in the front. I didn't ride again because the ride sucked, and there was one train running.

It's funny, I liked Revolution better when I was there. The OTSRs sucked, just because they were so restricting, but it wasn't painful.

 

And there's a difference between rough, and rough relative to a B&M. It's the rattle. Diamondback has it, and so do Scream and Dominator. And it's enough to give you a headache if you ride in the right seat, especially after a few rides. That's not something you expect from a B&M, because they have the reputation of being glass-smooth. It's not rough like an old wooden coaster, but that doesn't mean nobody can talk about it.

That sounds awesome, can anyone else confirm that the 4th week of august should be light crowds? It would be awesome to be able to get 2 rides on everything...

Weekdays in late August are a great time to go. I went either last year or the year before (can't remember), and it was practically empty.

Scream isn't rough in the traditional sense, but its rattle gives me a fierce headache after only one ride. It's the only ride at SFMM that I consider unrideable. To compare, I rode Medusa at SFDK this summer and found it a fantastic, smooth ride. As for some of the other B&Ms mentioned in the last few posts, Vortex is a brutal headbanger and Diamondback is butter-smooth. If Dback had a little rattle, it didn't bother me at all after about 15 rides.

I just want to take the time to say that the most feared rides at SFMM from the GP are:

 

1) Scream

2) "Xcelerator" or "Xtreme" or "The ride that has spinning chairs" (LOL) trust me, I know its called X2, im not dumb

3) Superman

4) Goliath
