P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

For the moment I'm going to assume this is simply a mistake that will be corrected. I can't imagine why the park would build this ride and then give it such a requirement. They're going to end up excluding the group in which this coaster would have been most popular with!

The Shamu express at Sea World Orlando is 42" as well , but....with a parent or adult they can ride at 36".

Right, but that makes sense. I wouldn't let KidTums go on Gadet's Go Coaster by herself, but I'd gladly take her on.

That's why if the height restriction is 42" with an adult or 36" without, that would make sense, but that's not what the website says.

EDIT: I just spoke to Neal Thurman at the park. He says he hasn't seen any documents or information about the ride so he cannot confirm nor deny the posted height restriction. He will get back to me as soon as he has information about it.

UPDATE! Just heard in from Six Flags Magic Mountain's Neal Thurman. He says "That height restriction was just a placeholder and it was never supposed to make it live to the website. We have not set a height restriction for the ride as of this time. The 42" height restriction will be removed from the site in the next 24 hours."

It is really bad practice to have a plausible number as a place holder. Doing that allows for the fact that it is just a placeholder to be overlooked. Use something that is completely nonsensical so it is obcious to you and everyone that it isn't the right number (like 99").

I hope this "placeholder" is just holding the place of a lower number.

I've been burned by stuff like this before.

^^Just goes to show that no one in the Six Flags Family is actually talking to each other. Just another problem...

I'm going to have to believe Neal over whoever runs the national Six Flags Twitter at this point, but this is pretty sad and if I were Neal I would be on the phone with corporate now!

I have tweeted the following:

@SixFlags is that 42" to ride w/ an adult or alone? At similar rides at your other parks it is 36" with an adult, 42" to ride alone.

And have received the response:

@ThemeParkReview I believe it's to ride period but I'm going to double check for you. - Mike

^Eight pages on the number one unofficial Theme Park Website isn't enough? Letters aren't going to help. This is either a mistake, or they are doing something completely against every other Six Flags Park and other Amusemetn Park on Earth. It's that simple.

^^ No, I'm going to boycott the ride! There is NO EXCUSE that can be justified to me that why this ride has a 42" height restriction and the one that my daughter rode... A CLONE OF THE EXACT SAME RIDE ... 60 miles away she rode at 35"

NO EXCUSE!

It's either poorly communicated information, meaning that it's really 42" to ride alone or 36" with an adult, or it's just flat out one of the worst descisions I've ever seen any park make about a single ride.

The 2nd worst being when Knott's raised Jaguar's height restriction from 42" to 48". It's right up there with that decision, IMO.

^ He can ride it! He's over 42" and doesn't have any kids.

Look, you guys are NOT READING what I originally posted. I wasn't saying that everyone should boycott SFMM or the ride for this, I'm saying that...

IF YOU HAVE KIDS...TAKE THEM TO DISNEYLAND INSTEAD OF SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN!!!

Your 36" kid will be very HAPPY when they can ride Gadget's Go Coaster at Disneyland.

I suggest writing a letter to the park explaining how there is not enough for kids who are under 42". And who knows if they get enough letters they may realize something needs to change.

Actually, instead of writing a letter, if you have Twitter, why don't you tweet your concern? Send it to:

@sixflags

They seem to be at least responding about this issue. The more tweets they get, maybe they'll realize it's a real concern?

Wow, this height restriction is unnecessary and pointless. As said before, by the time they are tall enough, no kid is going to want to ride this, and especially when they've been riding the same coaster for years down at Disneyland. Also, what is the point of it as it is higher than all of the other roller skaters, even those at other Six Flags parks, or is there still a misunderstanding between the differences in height to ride alone or with someone?

Edit: Also, to show how ridiculous this is, Dare Devil Dive here at Great America has a min height of:

A). 54 inches

B). 48 inches (like Magic Mountain)

C). 42 inches with adult

D). None of the above

Correct, the answer is letter C.

I love the fact that right above the height restrictions on the website it says:

A new family ride, Mr. Six's DanceCoaster, is coming on Memorial Weekend, bringing the coaster count to 17! Based on our dancing mascot of fun, this is the perfect coaster for parents and children to enjoy together.

So much for a perfect coaster for many families to enjoy together.
