P. 2239: Superman: Escape from Krypton permanently closed

Recommended Posts

I noticed when I went last Thursday that the guns that were initially supposed to be mounted to the front of the Terminator trains were no longer sitting idly on the side at the end of the ride. I wonder if they're attaching them now, or if they have been permanently scrapped.

I went on Saturday and the crowds were non-existent with the exception of X-2 and Terminator. Everything else was pretty much wait 2 trains and you got to ride. Goliath was simply shuffle from car to car since there were no full trains.

The Q-bots were down which was sad since the line for Terminator was 2 hours and only had 1 train.

X-2 had some problems testing in the morning so they wouldn't let you stand in line at park opening.

Going to SFMM tomorrow for the first time, coming alll the way from Belgium. Im so excited about it< I hope I can get a lot of rides with the regular flash pass... Im beyond stoked, hehe

I had an awesome day and managed to do all the big rides.

+ Deja Vu was down from about 5 pm till 8 but they fixed it on time, awesome.

+ X2 opened at 11.30 but we were allowed to stand in line before the actual waiting line and walk under security surveillance to the ride, when it opened. Very good again. And I was first at the entrance, haha.

+ I think Tatsu was down at some point but in the evening it was running again. Im not sure about it breaking down though.

------- All the refill cups (or whatever its called) were sold out. How the hell is that even possible? They also refused to sell the wristband and just put the drinks in the other cups.

Some people managed to buy the refill cups though in the morning. I really dont get this.

Wow! In this heat, that would have been a deal breaker for me! At TPR Termination Day we had to refill our bottles after almost every ride. Glad you got all your credits in and liked the park!

Being a heavy drinker (no alcohol) that was my plan too. Luckily the dining places served free cups of ice cold water cause I just refused to pay over 4 USD for a coke. I was really pissed off though.

It gets so hot every year at the park I'm surprised they haven't started selling these big boys yet!

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - 2008. More liquid = less refills :)

Went to SFHH today and the bottles were back.

Offtopic:

What a lame park is SFHH? The slides are pretty good, but due to horrible operations (losing SOOO much time) the waiting line for almost every slide was over 20 minutes, and then I'm not even talking about the popular ones.

^ I have found my visits to SFHH (California) to be the most enjoyable of any water park in So Cal.

-SFHH has the Black Snake towers, which to me, are the most intense slides in the area.

-As long as you go on an off day, I have not had too many problems with lines at the park. It's all about timing. Also remember with safety regulations, the previous rider has to have cleared the splash down before the next person can slide.

-Soak City has nothing too extreme. This goes for the one at Knotts, Palm Springs, and inland San Diego.

-Wild Rivers is cute, but its more for younger kids. I am SO glad I went with my friends little sisters, otherwise I would have looked totally creepy.

-Raging Waters is a really good park, but it is over-run by 909'ers with their offensive tattoos, line cutting, and general ability to make everybody else feel uncomfortable.

So there, that's my opinion

Chris.

Well, in Europe the safety regulations are less strict... But what I found annoying was that once the light popped green, the operator would open the gate, would then slowly let you walk to your slide, then give some instructions and then would allow you to go (and usually not all the slides were filled).

Everybody in our group wondered why they cleared the wave pool every hour... Is it for looking for dangerous items in the pool, or anything else?

^ I remember Raging Waters cleared the wave pool every so often, so I would imagine it's standered procedure. I've always wanted to try SFHH out but of all the times I've been to Magic Mountain, the water park just never seemed to be good enough to pull me away from all those coasters!

One thing I've always like about SFHH is the look and feel of the park, which I know isnt saying much but I havent been there very often.

A random question:

I wonder what it would be like if Goliath's trains were floorless and had a X-Car style lap-bar instead of a regular lap-bar or OSTR?

What about a Speed Racer themed ride?

Think dualing Rockn Roller Coaster Married Maverick who's cousins included Flight of Fear and Ring Racer?

Purely for imagination purposes.

You could do a lot with it though. Imagine near the end of the ride both cars stop next to each other. Loudspeakers placed on both sides to simulate the trains yelling at eachother.... saying this ends tonight... vroom engines.. light turns green and launch. Trains can be themed as the Mach 5 and the other as something else.

Bright colors, fog, fake headlights at certain turns.

Something like that can be programmed to do different things for certain seasons. Like Disney changing up Space this year like TKDL space for halloween

^OK, sounds interesting, and could work, but we also need to remember that (while I LOVED the movie) it was a commercial letdown. Why market a ride to a movie that failed?

Even if you take the 'cartoon' approach, today's younger generation is TOO young to remember or care about it.

I lastly have reservations against a Maverick-type ride at SFMM. Our park is already the 'inversion leader' in the world, BY FAR. I think we need to be focusing on some more airtime! Or. . . . .ok. . . . kids or whatever. lol.

^The floorless aspect wouldnt really do much, and the X car lap bar would probably restrict you more resulting in even less airtime which is the last thing Goliath would need

Well I mentioned the X-car lap bar as something of a visual reference rather than literally having that sort of lap bar.

As for the floorless aspect, well we hardly get floorless coasters taller than 140ft, so wouldnt a floorless train at the top of a 230ft lift be idk maybe a little more thrilling, fun, etc.?

Yes Commercially a failure and the Generation problem can be percieved as an issue. You however wouldn't market it in such a way to try and draw people soley based on the it's history.

The marketing side would be the ride elements like they did with Tatsu and X-2. THe movie tie-in just gives it a base and would enable Six Flags to say something like, "You won't just ride this coaster... You'll live it" A very family friendly theme though as Petrol heads love cars... and petrol heads worst enemy the tree hugger appreciate pretty colors.

Inversions don't need to be a major premise but since it would be enclosed you would need to save space some way while giving you a better punch for your space requirement. I mentioned the Ring Racer cousin before to perhaps counteract such a problem by applying breaks after the launch.

Note: Maverick Reference was for its 2nd launch.

^ I don't know, you tell me!

But seriously I'm not sure if the crowds have cut down a bit during weekdays. If you're planning to stay the whole day and have patience for lines then maybe you don't need a flash pass... It's up to you kiddo, enjoy your day!

I think that a Fast and Furious theme would be a better theme than speed racer, why? Here a few reasons. First, it would be known to more people than Speed Racer. Second it would be more marketable than speed racer because the Fast and Furious franchise is alot more popular. Third, speed racer is a little too kiddish for a coaster of that calibur. My 3 year old son is into that show, and I think that if you have a large, intense, looping coaster that is indoors and dark, the ride can be misleading and create a fear in those who are not quite ready for that intense of a ride but was lured into it from the somewhat kiddish theme to it.

Now I know that the Fast and Furious franchise is owned by Universal, and that this will never happen at SFMM, I was simply expressing my thoughts on what I think would be a better theme to a race movie themed rollercoaster. I still think that the park should get some sort of Intamin launch coaster, with lots of air time and intense, fast turns.

^I think we need to take the speed record away from the Germans!

Hate to mention a new parking lot coaster, but put it right along the outside of Colossus. It would be nice for once when the park opens 99% of the visitors didn't run to the left.

I've not yet been to SFMM, but I constantly hear the whole thing that they need moe flats. As for the whole Speed Racer/Fast and the Furious themed coaster, I see Speed Racer being more family orientated. Besides, Fast and the Furious don't have a catchy, yet campy theme song like Speed Racer.
