The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

You only get the gut check at the end of FT in the back rows.  The front row is much better in that regard (and you get a bonus pop of air over the loop!)

It was also notable that nearly every open coaster was running two trains, after months and months of so many rides being in single train ops.  I think the only ride still in single train ops is Revolution (though I didn't check X2)

Wonder Woman: I'm convinced I just don't have a good body size/proportions for RMC Raptors. Love the layout, hate the trains.

It's not you, it's a really bad design  The train forces your feet apart, but the restraint forces your thighs together... which is such an unnatural position to be in.  If the restraint allowed you to open up your thighs/knees more, it wouldn't be a problem for most people.

Anyone checked on the progress for Fright Fest yet?  What do we think the odds are that all the advertised attractions are actually going to open on time this year?

Or, more realistically... just how late do we think they'll be?

Are they re-opening the really old off premises gift shop or has it been open?  I haven't been there since the 70s or 80s.  We just go straight to the park.  If you are going to drive all the way to the park and not go into it, why not just order something online?

A week later and now all lettering has been removed from the north-facing side as well.  The south-facing side remains unchanged from last week.  The cherry picker is still on site but no replacement materials or other equipment are on site.

Now they started to work on North side of the marquee as the final piece of the puzzle for the new colors before finishing with the current Six Flags logo on top whuch will continue to be used as a brand. The new colors on the marquee were colored in Gold, Pink, Light Blue, Orange, Primal Yellow and Light Green. The previous colors have been used for almost 30 years since 1995.

At some point, even nostalgia starts to look a little too dated.

Yeah. It could. But these new colors looked fantastic with not only Gold, but also some White, Pink, Light Blue, Light Green, Primal Yellow and Orange. That could fit with the current Six Flags logo. All Bright Painting had worked hard on the new colors.

^ Ah, progress. 🙂

By the way, your last name "sounds" like how others pronounce my last name ..... Houghton. Had to let you know, lol!

We pronounce our name as 'Howtn'. Emphasis on the first syllable. 😉

It spelled different. It's two o's at the beginning which my family's name spelled.

Having lived in Valencia all my life, I've literally grown up with this sign.  It's odd how a simple object can attach itself to your life but also mean nothing to most people.  It's just a freeway sign but to me the fact that it's changing like this is important somehow.  That's why I brought it here when I saw that serious work had started on it for the first time in decades.  I'm just dying to know what it's ultimately going to become.  They're definitely going for something with this gold and light beige-looking style.  What is it though?  It's certainly not the soft blues with red augments that we're used to from Cedar Fair.  Perhaps the light and gold will eventually accent them?  The two small individual park signs for Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, signs that were added the last time this sign went through such a big change nearly 30 years ago, is the part I wonder most about though.  Why are they still there?  What will happen to them?  Are they part of the finished product?  If they stay, for sure the main part of the sign will again be Six Flags.

For me, I don't want to see that "legacy" Six Flags logo as you could call it.  If the sign can't be simply Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, as I would prefer, and it had to be Six Flags again, I would prefer to see a Six Flags more in this style.  Just as a wonderfully ironic conclusion, if you will, to the rivalry that SFMM and Cedar Point have had.

I believe I read that that logo is only for corporate related press releases and such.  The other Six flags logo, with the multi colored flags, is the consumer facing logo still used.  I agree I'd love to see "Six Flags California" phased out and just the park names, and maybe "A Six Flags park" underneath and slowly de-emphasize the Six Flags name from all but the "Over" parks.

No that logo is only for the company. They will continue the 2019 logo under the brand.
