I do not understand this at all, Seems to me Volcano had a rollback and they could not re-fire it, One Guy claims to have a cut above his eye (how would the ride do this?) and another kids leg fell asleep so......rush them to the hospital ASAP and await a letter from their lawyer.

must be a slow news day.

Actually it IS correct! The first inversion on Viper is 144ft tall, while the first inversion on Volcano is 155ft tall according to RCDB. Besides, Viper's first inversion is just a small loop way up in the air.

Posted

Yes Viking86 you are correct Volcano still has the tallest/highest inversion

unless somebody can find a higher one than 155ft.

back to topic...reading the article again it does not even say the ride launched...even more crazy

I always thought it was odd that they never had an evac. platform under the first part of the runway. How much do you wanna bet there will be one at the begining of 2007 now.....2 hours geez.

If it took 2 hours to evac, there's no way that train was near the station. It wouldn't take that long. Sounds like the story is missing some pieces as usual.

I would assume it would take a long time to evacuate from there, just because of the difficulty getting a lift machine in there to get people out of the seats. I notice there are metal rails lining the footers maybe they can put a portable platfrom across them but who knows. there is a platform in the mountain part of the launch runway....but that does not do them much good when the train stops at the begining of the launch area.

According to Coaster Net.com, Shiekra's Immelmann is 163 feet tall. RCDB says that it is 145 feet though. Does anyone know which is right?

About the accident, I do think that they might not have told us everything. It doesn't make much sense that it took 2 hours to evacuate everyone when it had stopped just out of the station. Surely there must be friction wheels on the launch track incase something like this happened?

The coaster had just pulled away from the station when it rolled back, but not all the way to the platform, leaving the passengers stranded 12 feet above ground. - The Assoc. Press

The only part that would fit that description is between the two launches, correct? I'm trying to jog my memory, but I can't think of anywhere else where you'd be about 12 feet above ground.

From the looks of that picture, they could have just jumped out of their seats . But oh wait, that may cause someone to put a little bit of pressure on the bottom of their feet causing an uncomfortable feeling for just under 2 seconds, they wouldn't want to have to call another ambulance.

That's a good picture because it shows about where the train *should* be evacuated from. If it's anywhere in the first launch section (even at the end) they're supposed to be able to back the train up to that spot, then use a bridge that connects between the 2 metal rails rails to unload each row. On average it takes about 15-20 minutes.

It seems like in this situation they simply weren't able to move the train back and they had to evacuate somewhere near the mid-point or end of the launch tunnel which is where the train ends up after a typical rollback.

Of course I don't know anything about this specific situation, so that's just my guess.

That's weird that they say it happened on Friday. The same thing happened to a train on Thursday of last week, the train stopped right at the beginning of the launch track. I'm not sure how long it was stuck, but it was there for at least a few minutes. I have a picture!!!

Anyways, on topic, how does this cuase a cut above the eye? I'm confused...

This sounds like another person wanting some "pain and suffering" money from the park..lol

I can only assume if the person had facial injuries that he/she had glasses and the force of the (failed) launch and rollback perhaps was a partial cause.

I contacted Susie Story over at PKD and she was at another meeting and will return the call when she gets back. Perhaps I could get a mini-interview and post any additional comments/information on here. She is one of the nice® PR spokespersons at PKD.

Don't email them from the website or anything because they generally do not answer them in this instance (and they even posted a note about it on the website last year-due to floods of emails).

Good pickup on the story PKDcoaster~!

Two people were injured yesterday in a roller-coaster accident at Paramount's Kings Dominion that left some passengers sitting on the ride for more than two hours.

You just gotta love the stuff that the news sites write! A rollercoaster accident???

Correct. Also, Sky Wheel at Skyline Park and X Coaster at Magic Springs also top Viper at 150' 11" with in-line twists.

The passengers "sitting" on the ride were waiting for some goodies shipped over from KBF in Cali! Whooo fried chicken

Wow, yeah, roller coasters are dangerous. Tear them all down, especially Volcano! I bet the Smurfs never hurt anyone!

Personally, I blame the little blue bastards. There must be some bitterness from when they were booted off the mountain. This is a case of smurfitage, I think. Or perhaps of evil spirits from the old Haunted River.
