Most comfortable?
steel replied to thrillrideseeker's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
B&M hypers, especially Apollo's Chariot when your legs are frozen and it's pouring rain. Mmm... Also, B&M flyer seats are awesomely cool. Those were my favorites before I rode Raging Bull. Much better than Vekoma flyer seats, which kill the shoulders. -
Yeah, that picture is of a hot day in the waterpark. To answer your question: Nonexistant. Walkons for everything on a beautiful day in July. That doesn't even make sense but it happened.

Sadly, there are plenty. Dominator and Hydra, for example are mucxh rougher than any self-respecting floorless should be. Even more, Talon is a migrane waiting to happen. Zen rides. Let's see... This doesn't really count, but I got a rare zen ride on Timberland Twister at MOA during PresCon. You spin about as much as you would with three people in the car. This probably doesn't count either, but I was alon on Screamin' Swing at Dorney. Not to mention the countless single flyer rides on skycoasters. I had a night ride on Timber Wolf alone at Coaster Mayhem. That was pretty awesome. It was running really smooth that night and I was in row one. It was almost eery. At CoasterCon last year, I had a zen ride on Zeus in the back row just as it started to rain and everyone was leaving. That was an awesome ride. It's a little creepy to be back in those woods at night, and even more creepy when you're alone.

I highly doubt this will be a clone of Sheikra. When has Busch ever cloned a ride from one park to another? Those of you who are convinced of it being a clone of Sheikra are being way too pessimistic about it. This is just what happened to Patriot. People saw it as a Talon clone and imediately dismissed it as a lame ride without realizing that most people love Talon (I am aware that they ended up being completely different in every possible way). Are you actually depressed that you think BGE is getting a Sheikra clone? Is Sheikra not a world class ride? Just my two cents.

Coaster Mania - Cedar Point
steel replied to gregster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I haven't been to CoasterMania myself, but I can tell you what's so great about it. ERT. Millennium Force. Top Thrill Dragster. The only thing nearly as good would be night ERT on Patriot. That's actually not true. ERT means much shorter lines, unless it's a really low capacity ride. You will wonder where everyone went. On top of that, CP's premier rides (Magnum, Millie, TTD) have great capacities. You shouldn't have a problem. And if you get a good ride team, you're in for a memorable experience (e.g. night and morning ERT on Raging Bull at CCXXVIII - running all three trains with enthusiastic ops). -

I think I saw that back in June. Very funny. -
Defniately use Coaster Counter (www.coastercounter.com). It does count pwered coasters, but those are easy to recognize and remove. It's a lot easier than just trying to remember (like at CoasterFanatics or ThrillNetwork). Then you just need to add traveling coasters.

Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
steel replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Drewbie gets his information from the company that delivers ride pieces to Valleyfair! (at least that's my understanding of it). He has been correct for the most part since Steel Venom. Also, GCI employees have been seen onsite. On top of that, GCI's site has been updated with talk of big news about to be announced. Edit: Here's the link to GCI's site: http://www.greatcoasters.com/news.html At Pres Con I spotted tons of flags in the huge grassy area across from Looping Starship, near the walkway under Hurricane Falls, and close to Red Garter Saloon. Sorry, I couldn't get any pictures. The camera was unavailable at the time. -
Coaster Mania - Cedar Point
steel replied to gregster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Next year's Coaster Mania,a long with Geauga Lake's Coaster EXT, has been moved to the two days prior to ACE's CoasterCon XXX at Paramount's King's Island, Stricker's Grove, Holiday World, and Beech Bend. Just letting you know. -
On our vacation this year, we drove for a little under 48 hours total. I drove (well, rode) 11 hours from Muskegon, MI (MIA) to Gettysburg, PA (two hours from Dorney). Also, I've done the 10-hour trip to Des Moines from Sandusky. If it's much further than 10 hours with no major stops on the way, I'd rather fly, but I'm alright up until then.

My baby. Sweet, sweet Patriot goodness. The last coaster I added to my count was Screamin' Dragon at Como Town. -

Food Network Needs Our Help For A New TV Show!
steel replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Adventureland in Altoona, IA has the best mini-donuts in the history of the world. You can get them for about $3 near The Underground. I'd have to say BGE has the best food. When we were there, only one actual food place was open (the one at the front of the park, near the enterance, can't remember the name), probably due to the huge rainstorm that was around all day. Anyway, they sold hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza, but they were absolutely delicious. My only criticizm is the fact that the pizza comes with fries (what's that about?). Again, if you go to Adventureland, you NEED to get their mini-donuts. It's right around the corner from the Mexican place near the bridge to Dragon Island. BTW, Alton Brown really is the only Food Network host worth watching. Emril is really sort of creepy. -

Wow, this TR is over a year old now. I know some babies who are younger than this thread. Great pictures, though. I recently went to Geauga and had a great time. You have an oustanding tolerance for roughness, my friend, because Head Spin was rougher than WoF's which is supposedly one of the smoother ones. I think I tore some cartilage in my ear on Thunderhawk, and Villan cracked my ribs. I do agree with you, however, that Dominator is way rougher at the end than it should be. I don't get why everyone hates RWB so much. I loved that ride. It's roughness was present, but completely tolerable. I also loved Double Loop's airtime. I agree with your love of impulses. Short, but oh, so sweet. GL's Steel Venom places second for me (right after Valleyfair!'s Steel Venom and right before SFGAm's V2). I actually think the ride is about as good as VF!'s but the views are better at VF! and I find the red and blue color scheme hideous on impulses. Glad you had a good time.... last year... -
Finally, for the first time in my life, I'm RIGHT about something!!! Someone should email Dan!

Patriot at Worlds of Fun. I could ride this coaster all day and never get tired of it. If I had to choose something else, definately Escape from Pompeii at Busch Gardens Europe. I loved it when I rode it this June. Surprisingly, it's the best ride there to ride while it's raining. Thank God for fire effects.

^Night rides on Wolf are great, but the best ride of the day is the first ride of the day, when the sprinklers are still on and it's still fresh and smooth(er).

Wow, I am really sorry, guys. These photos are not cooperating. If anyone knows of a simple way to resize images that are over 1000 pixels tall and wide, please do not hesitate to ask. I have IrfanView, but it doesn't actually resize the images. -
Hated coasters you like.
steel replied to imbordisux's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I really enjoyed Iron Wolf. I didn't find it rough anywhere but the corkscrew and the turn immediately following it. Thunderhawk at Dorney is really under-rated. You get SO much ejector air at the top of most of the hills. I also thought Raging Wolf Bobs at Geauga Lake was a great ride that I would reride without hesitation. I don't see what people hate in Timber Wolf. It isn't nearly as rough as Mean Streak or Villian (though it certainly isn't as smooth as Hades or El Toro), and on top of that, it's getting way better. And it has great airtime all the way through. Sadly, Patriot at Wolds of Fun is getting to be a dreadfully under-rated ride. Too many enthusiasts ride once in the front, seeking a more intense ride, and are disappointed, therefore not riding again. Truthfully, the back row has some amazing forces through the entire course.
