  1. I believe that blood starts to leave your brain when there are too many positive g's (the same way that blood rushes to your head when you hang upside-down). This causes your eyesight to get blurry. Your eyes feel really heavy. I know that's hard to imagine, but bear with me. The world starts to get darker, and if the g's continue, you can't see, hence "blacking out." I don't have a huge g tolerance, so I start to black out at about 3.9 g's (rough estimate). It's not fun. At all. Ever.
  2. WoF is getting a wingwalker sometime after 09.
  3. ^^Yep, exactly. Locked knees basically encourage blackouts, which is not what any self-respecting human being wants. Slightly bent is the way to go if you absolutely HAVE to ride Mantis.
  4. I think the speed looks fine. It seems basically equivalent to X-Flight. If there's any difference, it's because it was recently completely rebuilt in a new location (don't know if you've noticed) and it needs time to break in, but it doesn't look that different to me, and I rode X-Flight only a few months before its removal.
  5. Ugh, I hated Mantis with a passion. It isn't that it's very rough (although it does have its moments), it's that it's WAY too forceful for a standup coaster. The strain on your legs is horrible, and I've only ever ridden in the first few rows.
  6. Before the whining starts: you can tell that this will be a highly banked S-curve and it will be taken at a high speed. Not quite as delicious as a heartline, but it's still going to be awesome.
  7. Next time try to go on a day I can make it!
  8. My 7th grade math book had a section about Cedar Point and my Science book in 8th grade had a picture of Manhattan Express in it.
  9. ^You misunderstand. I don't mean there aren't good rides. The rides I listed were the ones I like best. Falling Star is a great ride, and River Rapids Log Ride is second only to PBLC, IMO. I always love riding the skyride and I never miss a chance to play Bingo. But I'm not big on the atmosphere. Even with the wonderful staff and the Disney-esque architecture, I can never shake the feeling that I'm at a tiny park. BTW, I don't know what you're talking about with Underground and Dragon. Underground should never have been built. It's a waste of space. If anything, it's a tool for screaming contests. It's a neat ride when all the effects are working, but that's basically never. Dragon is the worst steel roller coaster in the midwest, IMO, and I'm not exaggerating. Any coaster that actually inhibits your breathing needs to be blown up at the very least. But Tornado and Outlaw are great, so is Sawmill Splash. When I rode Sawmill with five other people, we got completely soaked (not cool), but we also went down the slide so fast that we were nearly in danger of being in danger of falling out once or twice (way cool). Tornado is always awesome in the back and front, but it's gotten very shaky over the past few months. Outlaw, on the other hand, is ten times better than it was a few years back. But no matter the viewpoint, Adventureland will always have a pig food stall, the world's best mini-donuts, and a girraffe named Jack. And that's hard to beat. So I'm sorry you misunderstood.
  10. ^It's not the first drop that makes it good though. It's the massive lateral air that's scattered through the entire ride. The hill after the drop is the best part.
  11. I'm kicking myself that I couldn't make it right now. I had a choice between May 4th and May 11th and (before I knew that TPR would be there on the 11th), I went on the fourth. Sounds like it was great fun. Outlaw was the best woodie in the north central part of the midwest until Renegade, IMO. Adventureland is fun and everything, but it gets boring REAL fast. The only really good rides are Sidwinder, Outlaw, and Space Shot (and Tornado up until the accident last year). Splash Over can be a lot of fun, but it squishes you in a bad place if you don't know the brace position. It's nice to have a park this close, but it needs some major improvements. Our newest coaster was built 11 years ago, and that's Underground, which barely counts. And the next newest is 15 years old. It's ridiculous.
  12. I didn't think it would be that hard to understand. The point is that you can never say something is fail-safe. There is always, ALWAYS something that can go wrong.
  13. That's what they said about the Titanic. The Titanic didn't use Magnetic Breaks/Launch though... That's not the point.
  14. That's what they said about the Titanic.
  15. ^Dude, VF! trimmed up Wild Thing and High Roller a long time ago. It's not exactly a new thing.
  16. Wow, there's a feat. That's awesome, though. I'm really excited to ride this thing.
  17. That's an optical illusion. It's really not. I wish I could be there, but I'll have to wait until Memorial Day to hit Renegade. Have a great time.
  18. ^So whatever happened to that "better" footage you told us about?
  19. Woohoo! BTW, I'm planning to repost the other videos as soon as I can. It was just too much for one little post to handle.
  20. This was just about the most pointless day I've had at an amusement park. It was cloudy, humid, and packed full of people. Seriously, Iowans don't have any sense of weather. It was supposed to be empty yesterday. So I got into the park and headed for Space Shot, which, to my great surprise, had a twenty-minute wait (worth it, of course). Then, to my great surprise, I rode Inverter. I cannot understand why I insist upon torturing myself with this ride every time I visit Adventureland. I started to the back of the park and rode Lighthouse, which is under-rated, IMO, and a great family ride that only gets you a little dizzy. I then walked back to one of the three best rides in the park, Sidewinder, only to find that its queue was full. I decided to come back later and, in the mean time, ride the other best ride in the park, Outlaw. This ride has really improved over the last three years. It was running perfectly. Not too smooth, not too rough, with tons of lateral airtime. Awesome. Sidewinder's line was still ridiculous, so I headed over to Tornado, which, unlike Outlaw, has really lost a lot of it's spark since this time last year. It's still great fun, but the airtime has stopped inspiring wonder in my heart. For lunch, I had a slice of pizza and some water, but that's not the point. Mini donuts were right around the corner. Adventureland basically has the best mini donuts in history. And for the first time ever, there was actually a pretty big line. Full of pizza and small, sugar-coated, circular lumps of fried dough, I got in line for G-Force, which is always a good laugh. After a considerable amount of spinning on that ride, I rode the wonderful Sky Ride and snapped some nice ariel photos of the park. I walked over to Outlaw Gulch, saw that Sidewinder still had a big line, and retraced my own steps, grabbing another awesome ride on Outlaw. After that, I took one last stab at Sidewinder. The line was even longer than before, but I thought "What the heck, it's worth it" and stepped in line. IMO, Sidewinder is a lot more fun than giant frisbees like maXair. I don't really know why, but that's how it is. At this point, I was seriously considering leaving. It was humid, windy, cloudy as anything, and Adventureland doesn't have a lot of attractions. So I rode the Sky Ride back to the front of the park and sat down in the Bingo hall. To my immense pleasure and surprise, I won on the third try. The bingo prizes are almost frightening at Adventureland. For three tickets (that's three wins (or $1.50 in most cases)), you can get a full sized inflatable swimming pool. After much deliberation, I decided on an individual pancake cooker (like the waffle makers you see in hotels). I called my ride and they said it would be about an hour, so I got a locker and rode Der Flinger, which is a great diversion and a nice little family ride. I had about twenty minutes to kill, so I got in line for Space Shot (the other other best ride in the park). It was running very well yesterday. Lots of glorious airtime, just like we all love. Adventureland 5-5-07 021.mpg I have something of a fetish for trains leaving stations. Hi Robb! And this is a goose. This is a picture of some rope. And a brick. Sidewinder. Oooh, artsy. If you squint, you can sort of see what Underground (which I also skipped) looks like from above - one big tunnel. Honestly, it doesn't even go underground. Yeesh. What a gloomy day... Whee... The beginning of my Sky Ride adventure. Yep, that's the line for the mini donuts. And it was totally worth every second. I happen to value my life, so I skipped Dragon. Don't you love solarizing your pictures? Delicious airtime. Taken from the queue line. Right next to me, there was a piece of graffiti that read "I'm a sexy beast." I really, really wanted to take a picture of it, but my judgement got the better of me. *dizzy* If you've ever wondered how Lighthouse works, the operator pushes the big silver button to make it bounce. Lighthouse. Entering the parking lot.
  21. The launch section is longer than a football feild? Wow...
  22. It's not exactly a sport, let alone an extreme one, but I can solve any Rubik's Cube in a minute and a half.
  23. "Yeeeeees... Yeeeeees... I had a stroooooke."
  24. Yep. But I'll admit that a lot of ninth graders need a lot of help with their writing.
