Photo TR: Behemoth/Ravine Flyer Trip
TPDave replied to natatomic's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Another great TR! You're closing in on Chcuk to take the "TPR caption award"! ERT of RF II was incredible! I rode the last two trains in the front with Cameron, so painful, probaly so dangerous, but sooooooo good! -
The Honda cog advert was great, as were the sony bravia ones...

It's not allowing scientists to make anything weightless, it's discovering why particles have mass...

Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, if the weight was in kg the track piece would weigh 8.8tons, if it was in lbs it would weigh 4tons. The latter seems more likely -

even though it's a european comany, the order is in the states (and the track fabricated there) so I would ssume pounds. It also seems a bit much for a single track piece to weigh 8 tonnes given that the box section track is hollow. -
I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. I went to the states alone when I was 17 no problem.

SeaWorld Orlando (SWO) Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to disneygurlz2s's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
If it's shaped correctly and that train is going fast enough it will. B&M trains are some of the heaviest around there, so there's a lot of energy to create a splash. You're screen name suggest's you know how small the scoops on the Griffon and Skiekra are, yet they produce a huge splash. -
What's wrong with your current title?

Theme Park Review's 2008 Asia Tour!

Nice update, wish I was there!! -
IoA and Magic kingdom. Islnds of adventure has large rides, great water rides, a brilliant atmosphere and the most awesome dark ride in the world (although I don't know how much of this will be out of action with Harry Potter construction). Magic kingdom is a perfect example of a disney park, lots of family rides, great theming etc. I think that Animal kingdom and sea world don't offer enough to be full day parks.

Physics question about speed
TPDave replied to RonLaan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Yes but the max speed is generally achieved at the bottom of the drop, before any inversions have taken place. All the calculations are based on the max height and max speed of the coasters (from RCDB). I assumed that the max height is the drop height, and the max speed is achieved at the bottom of the drop, whoch does leave quite a large magin of error -
Physics question about speed
TPDave replied to RonLaan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've just been playing around on rcdb for a while and discovered that good design counts for more than I thought. The max speed Goliath could reach without resistive forces in just over 108 km/h, (it gives up <2% of it's theoretical speed to air resistance, friction etc.) and MF gives up 3 km/h (still <2%) but a standard SLC gives up almost 13 km/h of it's potential speed (>14%) to friction and air resistance. So not only does rattle give you a headache, it also seriously impacts the speed of the coaster. Of course I could (and probably have) done something wrong, but I thought I would share this with the geeks of TPR. -
^ But why wait 30 minutes if you can pay a little extra and wait 10? It means you're out of the park faster, and after KD that is a seriously attractive proposition to me!! I've just got back from the (totally awesome) East Coast trip and I would say it owes some of it's success to paid fast pass systems. At a park like disney if you use your fast pass on large attractions (which really is the point of the system), you get on 2 or 3 more rides in a day. As Jahan said a few posts up, at SFGadv. we completed the park in 3 hours, there is no contest in my opinion. I paid several thousand dollars to go on the trip, so an extra $50 to get on all the rides and not go home having not ridden something just because of the length of the line is definitely worth it. I missed about 6 out of 130 costers on the trip, and they were all either kiddy credits or closed when we were there. Had it not been for paid fast pass systems, that number would have been orders of magnitude greater.

You seem to have given the title fairy a gender, that will no doubt offend the fairy. Think more carefully in future Dave

About time!! Nice start Hanno, I must also insist on knowing which lens you use, I would further like to know your average shutter speed and while you're at it you can tell me something sexy about your aperture too... Dave -
Great TR Chuck! Fantastic captions as always and a nice selection of pictures. It was awesome hanging out with you again too, until next year... Oh and don't even joke, Beth looks sooo impressed with my cell phone coaster count
