  1. Did you know that on July 4th, 1975, Six Flags Over Mid-America hosted the first live concert from Dolenz, Jones, Boyce, and Hart? Dolenz and Jones were of course two of the four Monkees, and Boyce and Hart were the co-writers of some of their biggest hits, such as "(Theme From) The Monkees" and "Last Train to Clarksville" and "(I'm Not) You're Stepping Stone". It was the first Monkees-related tour and show since the group broke up in the late sixties. And my little 6-year old butt was there with my family! ! (And I still love all the great music produced under the Monkees moniker!)
  2. BGE easily. Alpie is almost as good as Montu. Apollo is better than Kumba IMO (I hate OTSR's). Griffon = Sheirka (I'm guessing). Having an Arrow suspended is way better than a crappy twin woodie. Nessie is about equal to Scorpion (the best Arrow looper is on par with a standard Schwarzkopf IMO). Plus BGE's theming is way better, and they have Pompeii and DarkKastle!
  3. Great pics. I'd love to see the Bucs stadium...it looks so cool. I'm a Rams fan (OK, don't make fun of me...I'm from STL...I have no choice), but my wife is from the Twin Cities, and I'm psyched because we're going to see the Vikings play the Giants that weekend after Xmas. I've been to the Metrodome for baseball, but I can't wait to see the Vikes there...
  4. I've been on, in order: T2 (SFKK) - hated it Mind Eraser (SFA) - hated it Mind Eraser (SFNE) - it was actually a lot better than I expected (I'm not counting the Invertigos - those are mostly pretty fun)
  5. Wow, do I hope SDC gets OzCat! I've only gone to CC once because OzCat is the only good reason to pay that high gate price to CC. If SDC gets it, that will be a top 10 USA park IMO (if its not already)...
  6. Thunderration at SDC is way harder to photograph from the ground...
  7. I think, ride-wise, they are about even, maybe a slight nod to DW. If I had to do a ride matchup, here would be my take: Top coaster: Thundrhead > Powder Keg (but I love PK) 2nd best: Myst. Mine = Wildfire (im guessing...never been on MM) 3rd TennTor = Thunderration (both are top-notch for their respective types) indoor dark coaster hybrids are almost the same (I actually thought BF's effects were a little better) flume - DW rapids - SDC flats - even train ride - DW (although both are outstanding) toboggan rides = even other than that, DW has River Battle and a 3D theater, whereas SDC has a cool old-school dark shooting ride, a crooked house, and a free cave tour with tram I would give the nod overall to SDC. Its simply that, for me, I feel like I'm really in a hidden-away place with lots of little dead-ends and hidden gems....DW seems more of a midway-type place with straight paths and fewer places to get "lost"... But I absolutely love both parks
  8. The Eagle runs better than any late 70's woodie should. IMO its as good now that I'm a coaster fan then when I rode it as an inexperienced 10 year old kid...
  9. Practically every coaster on the planet could use these "enhancements" more than S:ROS. That's one ride that is perfect the way it is....
  10. So last time you went, you didn't ride Mr. Freeze, Batman, or the Mine Train?
  11. I wonder if it will be scary... ...you know, unlike the movies
  12. I want to re-build Dante's Inferno in my basement
  13. Why not just have parks say no kids under 10. Then as a result there would be very few adults over 20. Yeah, nothing but kids aged 11-19. That would really fun for adults, and also be in the park's best benefit...
  14. Agree with a couple of very good ones already listed: -basketballs -parking fees I'll add a few: -kids taking my picture as soon as I enter the park (even though I'm there at opening and I'm obviously making a bee-line to the best ride in the park) - game booth workers yelling at me to play their stupid game (yeah, I'm 39 years old - like I really to walk around with a 5-foot Spongebob Squarepants) - coaster operations that don't allow you to queue for a specific row - fast pass systems that make the passholder jump in front of people at a designated spot in line without staff assistance (causing inevitable fights) - one train operation on a multi-train coaster in peak season with lines oozing onto the midway
  15. If you coach 3 high school sports to supplement your income, then yes, it IS impossible to visit on weekends during the school year.
  16. If you think people can always take off weekdays in the fall and winter to travel to Disneyland, then you have a lot to learn about life. Some people only have things like summer, Christmas, and Spring Break to travel to their favorite park. As a teacher, I will never be able to visit Anaheim in the non-peak times of the year. Never. Ever. Some people on here need to realize how things are in the real world, and outside of the theme park fanatic community. Plus, I just PROVED that you can see everything during peak season by traveling and visiting intelligently. I could visit on any day of the year, and I could use FastPass to my advantage enough to make that a good enough day to visit the park...
  17. Well, all I can say is that for someone who gets to visit Disneyland every decade or so, Fast Pass allows me to be able to ride Space Mountain, Indy, and Splash Mountain something like 4-5 times in a 3-4 day trip while waiting in a line for an average of 15 minutes each time. It saves people who spend more than a day at the resort a LOT of time, which is who DLR should be catering to... I don't buy this "if there was no FastPass, the 2 Mountains and Indy would be 25-40 minute waits" (or something to that affect). When the place gets as crowded as it tends to get, those lines would be swamped regardless of the presence of the FP system. OK, maybe Space Mountains Standby line would be 50 instead of 60 or 70 minutes without FastPass. I couldn't care less, because I'm not waiting more than once for a ride for 50 minutes anyway. So instead of riding Space once in 3 days, with FastPass I can ride it 3-5 times. Is this really a bad thing? I'm sorry, I don't get that. You can have your theories that refute mine, but I feel that I am smart enough to realize how much FastPass enhanced my enjoyment of my four days at the DLR this past March...and I didn't "perceive" that it helped me. It actually did...
  18. I think the idea that a virtual queues like FastPass at the Disney resorts are the reason for the long lines is wrong. Take Disneyland. Space Mountain and Indy have 45 minute wait times before the FastPass windows even open up for the day. And considering many people run to get FastPasses for those rides when the park opens and skip the Standby - so in reality its a 45 minute wait and MANY people who arrive at opening are purposefully NOT queueing for that ride (because they'll be back later with their FP). On the flipside are Matterhorn, Storybookland Canal boats, and Finding Nemo. None of these rides has a FastPass system, yet their lines remain ridiculously long all day on most days. FastPass spreads people out throughout the park more evenly, and it discourages people (a little bit) from Standby lines, thus making those lines relatively shorter. FP allows a smart person to be able to ride Space, Splash, Indy, BTMRR, and Buzz all in one day with shorter than 20 minute waits for each and still have plenty of time to ride 10-20 other rides....
  19. I pretty much vote Democrat every election because A. I'm not rich and B. I'm not a religious fanatic. But Obama is an awesome candidate regardless of party. He stands for change. I mean who actually likes things the way they are now (except for arms dealers)?
  20. SFSTL River King Mine Train (right side or south track) Jet Scream Injun Joe's Cave/Time Tunnel Tiltmore Hotel Adventures on the Mississippi Mo-Mo the Monster Sports Car Ride Sky Chuter Haunted House many more WOF Screamroller Orient Express Schussboomer SDC The Diving Bell and a bunch of stuff from the late 70s (some weird themed river ride?)
  21. I think good train rides can make or break a park. Whether or not they have good sightlines, scenery, or theming, they are a key element to any theme park. I would say that of the parks Ive been to, Disneyland, with the Grand Canyon and Primeival World dioramas, is the best train ride Ive been on. I would add Busch Gardens Africa Silver Dollar City Dollywood Knoebels Cedar Point (at least there is some attempt at theming) What are some other favs and why?
  22. Good riddance to the blights of the coaster world.... Just my opinion (he says as he ices his groin after riding Iron Wolf)...
  23. Two things... I worked at Ted Drewes from 1985 until 1992.....and the City Museum rocks....they have a bar area with many beers deep within its walls! I hope you enjoyed your time in our humble city!
  24. I think that if there is some element of a coaster that you enjoy, then you should not be sick of it by your second ride...if its that bad, you shouldnt have liked it the FIRST time you rode it...
  25. I have yet to ride a stand-up where the ride op didn't cram the crotch restrain hard into my giblets....... ...so that nonsense about "riding it correctly" is B.S..........I've never had a chance to adjust the thing myself....whether at CP, SFGam, KD, SFKK, etc... ..so maybe its not 100% the fault of the manufacturer...but I don't care..I say "THUMBS DOWN"!!
