Floorless Coasters....Great or Hype?
MisterP replied to ChrisFL's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like them if I like their layout. Only complaint would be OTSRs, which I'm never in favor of. -

Now I'm not a fanboy, I prefer fanman, but I read this guy's "review" of the resort and one of his negatives is the actually the audio-animatronics, then I say good day to you sir.......I said good day!! -

Article: The Mecca of the Mouse
MisterP replied to sugart's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The thing I hate the most about this is that it is pretty much how most of my 30-something friends feel (they're kind of like hipsters). The wife and I go to amusement parks (and Disney 3 of the last 5 years), and most of my friends go to "cool" places and eat expensive meals, go to "cool" bars, and see none of the sights except maybe a Cardinals road game. For the record my perfect vacation contains 1. at least one major league stadium 2. at least one happening city with good restaurants/bars 3. at least one outdoor activity 4. at least one historical site 5. at least 3 amusement parks Its a shame that I can't seem to convince my friends that it will could very well be fun to come with us and experience great rides like Space Mountain, POTC, Indy, Test Track and Expedition Everest just to name a few. And I try to explain that you can actually drink booze AND enjoy the parks (and we sometimes do and if that's what it would take for them to be convinced that they might actually have a good time). Hell, I can't even get them to Six Flags anymore. If I get old enough or too cool to wanna ride the Screamin Eagle anymore, just shoot me. -

So they finally ripped out the useless Autopia, but why did they replace it with my mom? She's not really all that hot anymore. -

Looks nice I guess. I'll wait a decade or so until the park "fills out". Right now it seems like jailbait to be. -
Crazy eBay Pirates of the Carribean Auction

Bizarre. I can say that NOTHING seems legit about that sale. Those look like some lame, cut-rate pirates. -
What's wrong with Mean Streak?
MisterP replied to dammie16@vt.edu's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I like what it tries to be with the train winding through its own structure (which I'm a sucker for). But just too teeth chattering. Rough is one thing, but jeez.. -
^ I think one thing it doesn't get enough credit for it that is pretty much one-of-a-kind. I can't think of a single other woodie in the U.S. quite like it. Yeah, its rough, yeah it has straight parts, but why do all coasters have to live up to the same "airtime" and "laterals" standards. The Beast doesn't seem to even want to be about those things. It's like more of a "runaway mine train" feel to it, IMO. When it was built, it was quite a departure from the typical woodie from the '70s. One of the earliest and best uses of terrain for a wooden coaster . That being said, I agree anyone who rode it pre-trims and believe it got neutered seem justified to have negative thoughts about the ride. That's always a dissapointing thing.

Robb & Jahan Go To White Castle
MisterP replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Nastiest fast food chain out there. That's what makes it so good. Plus they tend to be in really, really sketchy areas. Hey, there's a White Castle 4 blocks from my house! But seriously, in St. Louis they are loved so much, they're even out in the county in the "rich" areas (my area of the city is very middle class). -
Let's Learn about the Matterhorn!
MisterP replied to Alpenguy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I would say that the Matterhorn is still as popular as ever. Really, on my trip to DL just last week, I found the bobsleds to be the second hardest ride in DL to get on, after the subs. I only got to ride each side once in 3 days. Due to no Fastpass and 45 minute wait nearly from open to close, its the hardest reride in the park(assuming no one is dumb enough to want to reride Nemo) unless you want to wait 45 minutes, which I almost never would do for a reride in any park. I did find the Fantasyland side much slower and more rough. It seemed to me that the TL side is much, much better. Edit note: Actually Peter Pan and Storybook land are probably harder rides to get on than the bobsleds, but I was mainly talking about E ticket-type attractions. -
Article: The Mecca of the Mouse
MisterP replied to sugart's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I find it amusing that the writer thinks that Audio Animatronics are on their way out. I know I speak for many adult park-goers who actually want to see AA figures MORE present in their new rides. And I think Disney knows turning everything into computer-animation and motion simulation is not what they want to completely become. Universal and Busch and Six Flags can do a lot of that type of stuff. AAs are one of Disney's stamps of greatness. Maybe if people stop lining up for Pirates and HM, they'll rethink things. But that aint happening anytime soon. Sorry, dude. -
Line jumping at the DLR
MisterP replied to MisterP's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't mean it in a pejorative sense. Sorry if it sounded like a dig at Californians. I happen to love it there. -
Just got back from my sojourn to the DLR. I'll have a trip report in a few days. Until then, I have a question. Is line jumping at DLR 10 times worse than anywhere else, or is it just me? First off, I don't have a problem with someone who had to take a child to the restroom and then moves back in line to meet up with the rest of the family unit. I get that. But there were several times it was just wrong: 1. ANY teenagers who want to ride with their friends who are behind them in line, those riders need to move BACK to meet their friends, not the other way around, if not, you're line jumping 2. If youre in the fast pass return line and decide to merge with the regular line because you don't actually HAVE a fast pass, that's line jumping 3. If I'm walking through an empty, winding queue and you're too lazy to walk through and you go under the fence ahead of me, you're line jumping 4. rides like Indy where the line is undefined by a queue in the midway but there is clearly an established lineup of people waiting to enter the queue, but you casually merge ahead of 50 people who are waiting, you're line jumping There are other things, but is it just me? I go to mostly East coast/Midwest parks where people would fight people for pulling this stuff. Is it a "laid back" West Coast thing? Nobody seems to even bat an eye at it. The first ride of our trip was Mr. Toad and I swear we were barely in the queue yet and like 15 people jumped in front of us. No exaggeration. We even saw a middle age white woman ask her way through the entire Jungle Cruise line saying to everyone "Excuse me...I have people I have to meet up with...". SHe made it all the way to the front and sat on a boat between an Asian and an Hispanic family, neither of which she knew from Adam. It was hilarious really....the people in line who noticed were laughing at her. I mean, it was like a 10 minute wait. I couldn't wait to get back and see what all the park veterans on TPR thought. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Six Flags St. Louis (SFStL) Discussion Thread
MisterP replied to Homer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love the fact that we have a couple of woodies. But The Boss is very rough and SF has ruined what the Screamin' Eagle was (Although it's still my favorite). I'm looking forward to EK this year. I think that in '07, the Eagle was better than its been in over a decade. The retracking was definitely kind to my old friend. -

TOP 5 B&M INVERTED COASTERS
MisterP replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
1. Montu 2. DD - Fire 3. DD- Ice 4. Alpengheist 5. Raptor BTR (particularly SFGam) is as intense as any of these, but its relative shortness bumps it down below these 5
