Las vegas and california help
doom1001 replied to edh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've done a day bus tour from Vegas to the Grand Canyon.A bus picked us up at our hotel around 7am and then took us to a warehouse/vitamin factory to pay where they gave us a some croissants and juice. At about 9am we left, the drive was about 5 hours there and 5 hours back,we spent a total of like 2.5 hours at the canyon and arrived back at Vegas almost at 10pm.A lot of driving for a small amount of time at the canyon!!!! -

Cedar Point - Is it worth it?
doom1001 replied to orangeblue's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've driven three times from Miami to visit Cedar Point and a couple other parks and cities all over the east coast and at least for me it was well worth it as I still put Cedar Point near the top as far as a professionally run park with great rides.I can't speak for SF Great Adventure or Magic Mountain since I haven't visited them but Cedar Point just seemed like the Disney of the amusement park world compared to my visits to Six Flags over Georgia,SF New England and SF Marine World(Now Discovery kingdom). Not that they're bad parks, but it just wasn't the same thing.I don't think I've ever gone during the middle of the summer peak season,I think twice I went right around the beginning of June and I had about 40 minute waits for MF and Mantis and Raptor, about an hour for Dragster and the other coasters under 20 minutes. As far as rain,my first visit rain ruined the second half of my day at the park so on my second visit a year later I was Uber nervous as I arrived at the hotel the day before my visit with a summer Florida rainstorm falling in Ohio but the next day it was cool and perfect without a cloud in the sky. -
What got you interested in coasters?
doom1001 replied to thrillgeek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've always liked them since I was little, but what led me from normal coaster fan to the addiction I have now I could trace back to the moment I stepped off my first ride on Montu back in 1996.Pretty much after that it's all been about taping any kind of amusement related show and watching them over and over and making as many park trips as I can. -
Blizzard Beach- Do you like it, or not?
doom1001 replied to VivaLaVibora's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love Blizzard Beach but I think I prefer Typhoon lagoon by just a bit.I pretty much like everything at Blizzard Beach except how every time you go down a slide you basically have to come up the same 2 stairs over and over or wait in line for the chairlift,I prefer how attractions are spaced out in Typhoon Lagoon and even a Wet n Wild, which in my opinion isn't far behind either of the 2 Disney waterparks as far as my favorites,it's probably because I'm addicted to the Knee-Ski attraction there. Also anybody ever go to BB early in the morning and notice a poo smell,I think it probably has to do with them having trees that aren't exactly native to Florida and need some special smelly fertilizer, just my theory!!! -
I was waiting for an actual park report to upgrade my Platinum pass and make it out there. It looks like a nice park,it seems some people expected more after looking at the amazing artwork they had on their website.Next time Busch should consider putting pictures of the old "Watermania" waterpark in Kissimmee on their website and then when the real park opens everyone would be amazed!!!

I would have no problem with the boneyard getting all or partly taken up by this coaster,as you saw from this year HHN doesn't need the boneyard as what they had this year was pretty lame,it wouldn't hurt to leave some space though. And for Mardi Grass concerts in my opinion if they could find somewhere else to have them it would be great as I never liked seeing them standing there in a mob of people where you can't see the stage for the most part.

Wet N' Wild Orlando
doom1001 replied to ETapley0687's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Universal owns WetnWild, but I don't think they own the land it's on as this is the problem, supposedly they lease the property and the value of the land is increasing so much that it's unlikely Universal will keep paying it and would rather move the park to their property. If nothing can get done on that site I hope they can build a nice waterpark,2 theme parks plus a waterpark onsite will definitely improve the property as a whole.Someone asked if Der Stuka is the speed slide with the trap door,it's not, it's the conventional one, next to it is Bomb Bay same exact slide with the trap door.Is this the only slide left of it's kind as the Las Vegas WetnWild closed?? -
Wet N' Wild Orlando
doom1001 replied to ETapley0687's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As far as theming, yes you will never compare it to any Disney waterpark, but come on it's got great slides and how many waterparks can you go knee-skiing on a lake, you can't at Disney!!!There's been talk that if and when it closes that Universal will find a spot somewhere on their cramped property and make a waterpark with many or all of the slides on the current WnW.I'm sure if that ever happens it'll be very themed but you gotta question just how big could they make that park?I think the best that could happen is if they were to somehow buy the current property the park is at,shut it down for 6 months in the winter and spend some money on theming and trees.I would hate for that park to close,I mean if I want to ride summit plummet at BB I might have to wait in a 30 minute line,at WnW I go and ride Der Stuka and Bomb Bay 4 or 5 times in that 30 minutes.I visited WaterMania like the last summer it was there and yeah I was sad when I heard it closed but I knew that park couldn't compete with any others in the Orlando area, but I think WnW isn't in the Watermania category, does it need theming and trees yes,but everything else is there for a great park. -
Orlando's Dixie Stampede CLOSES!
doom1001 replied to pianojohn's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It doesn't matter what time you go by that Orlando premium outlet mall,it's always packed. Is outlet mall shopping nonexistent in South America or Europe, cause you see these tourists leave that place with dozens of bags like if they're giving away merchandise,it's the same way with Sawgrass mills down here in south Florida,I know they used to call Sawgrass Mills the second most popular tourist destination in Florida.I hope if Dixie Stampede is serious about opening in another location in Orlando that they find a good location. -
Theme parks in Google Earth
doom1001 replied to texcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Google earth worked fine for me,but you should check out local live search maps, put a theme park and click on Bird's eye, you'll see how much closer and clearer it is over Google earth.Try Universal and Islands of Adventure, you can see them so close it feels like you're there. http://local.live.com/ -
BAD Hotels/Motels near parks
doom1001 replied to piers's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Every time I've gone to Cedar Point I stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Port Clinton and I'm very happy with it.Online many of the other Sandusky hotels don't look that great and as you say are probably pretty scary. As far as the worst hotel near a theme park,or actually anywhere that I've ever stayed that would be the Safar Inn close to Busch Gardens Tampa, not Safari Inn,it's called Safar Inn,absolutely horrible, it was next to an adult video store,it smelled like beer everywhere, everything was dirty, a table had a leg that would fall along with the whole table if you touched it the wrong way.I have no idea how I slept that night in that place. -
Revenge Of The Mummy at USO
doom1001 replied to EpcotLova's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love the Mummy! However Hulk I don't know what's up wit it, aside from the launch, which is still amazing it just seems like the rest of the ride hasn't aged well at all. It's not the same smooth coaster it used to be when it opened. Can anyone explain why?I mean I ride Kumba a similar B&M that's like 6 years older than Hulk and Kumba still gives an amazing ride while Hulk every time I visit IOA seems to get rougher.Am I alone to see this in Hulk? -
Floorless Coasters: Just a gimmick?
doom1001 replied to RIP Psyclone's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't think Floorless coasters are a gimmick,a ride on a Floorless in the front row is a very cool experience, the feeling of speed is amazing. The other rows you don't get that visual of the track under your feet but you feel more free when riding a Floorless like it's just you and the seat, they're not as amazing as an Invert which in my opinion is one of the most amazing coaster design EVER!!Stand-ups are cool but nowhere near Invert status. -
I've only been to Cypress Gardens twice, both times we got there around ten am and yes it felt like we were the only ones in the park, however an hour or two later we started seeing a good amount of people coming in,but that wasn't the deadest month of the year,so I understand how a weekday in September might be so dead it might not make sense to open the rides but in my mind that's not a good sign for the future of the park.I just think if they ever really wanted to compete or just be relevant they can't have a big ad on their website saying to come ride their new Starliner, but uhh,you just can't ride it monday through thursday.I think it's a nice little park and just hope someone buys it who knows how to run it well!!
-
Have you seen that for most of September Cypress Gardens is having an experiment where from Mon-Thursday the rides and waterpark won't be operating,I was like WHAT!!I think they're calling it Garden Days and admission is $19.95,I mean I don't know what's going on at that park,I just hope whoever buys it knows how to run it!!

Islands of Adventure
doom1001 replied to moviekid21's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
IOA is a great park, the problem for me is since it's basically only added a couple minor attractions from when it opened in 1999 and the first couple of years I was going like every 2-3 weeks, now the place just feels smaller now and attractions like Spiderman, while it is a great ride are not as re-rideable as a coaster.I think Hulk's launch is great but the rest of the ride just doesn't have the same smooth feeling as when it opened.Maybe when the Potter stuff gets done the park will have a different feeling for me,but for now it feels like the same park from 8 years ago.But if you've never been you need to make it out there, especially for Horror Nights, now that's an event I never miss, best Halloween event anywhere, but insanely crowded!! Now Disney might not have all the big coasters and as a 30 year old dude with no kids,I never get tired of the place.I stay far away from it in the summer months when it gets mobbed by insane crowds and daily heat, but the rest of the year I'm there once or twice a month, the place is so big so there's just so much to see and do that you never get bored like I did with IOA. I also suggest going to Busch Gardens in Tampa if you like coasters and check out their Howl-o-Scream Halloween event, the park is much bigger and doesn't feel as crowded as Horror Night s and they also have some very good houses!! -
