  1. I have no idea what their plans are but it seems to me they could build a nicely themed waterpark onsite and then turn around and buy a couple other properties around Wet n Wild to give themselves the land for that third theme park that's supposed to open by 2018.They might have to get a bit creative but for long term plans it might be an option they must have considered.A good amount of the properties on this north end of International Drive are either empty or in decline, for example that Days Inn and Best Western that border the Wet n Wild parking lot are not exactly great hotels and a redevelopment of the entire area along with a third Universal park sounds feasable.
  2. I remember riding it right before they changed the trains and then again right after with the new trains, with the old trains the ride was easily in the top three roughest rides I've ever ridden,I felt lucky i didn't break a rib on it.After the switch I really enjoyed the ride as it felt rickety but not rough just like when it opened.I went to the park last month and didn't ride it so I don't know if it's gotten bad again, but I loved my rides on it when it was newer and again after riding it with the new trains,it would have to be something very good to replace it for me not to be upset if it were to get removed.
  3. It was Rock n Roller coaster at DHS,I rode it Monday after running the Disney marathon on Sunday.Given that my legs felt like hell Monday consisted of checking out of the All Stars, visiting that Disney pawn shop in Winter Garden, going to DHS and riding RnRC and ToT and heading to American Idol and seeing the final three shows since at least I could sit for a while.
  4. Down here in Miami, about 2-3 years ago food trucks were everywhere, there were round ups every day of the week with 30-40 food trucks,I think they even had one mega round up at the Miami Dade fair location with like over 70 trucks, some even coming from Orlando and Tampa. It seems as it is a slowly fading fad as many of the trucks are closing up shop, some are just getting out of it,others actually had success and have opened up their own restaurants. Some of the more popular ones are still out there hitting up different areas throughout the week but it seems there are fewer and fewer round ups and good trucks left.If the same is happening in Orlando it seems like an idea that could be a total complete fail,I guess it could work if the project actually becomes successful but I have my doubts, especially since I heard somewhere else that the center will have a country western theme and now I'm hearing the words European marketplace, permanent circus,Great American Expo, all these are descriptions are kinda all over the place, the last permanent circus I knew of was at that shopping mecca known as the Swap Shop in Ft. Lauderdale, basically a grungy flea market with a couple carnival rides and all the descriptions I'm hearing about the new remodel makes me think it sounds more like something closer to a flea market than to the I Drive Live project going in south of Sand Lake rd which looks way more promising.I just have my doubts,if they do something cool maybe people will come out, either way it's gotta be better than that Festival Bay mall,I've never seen a new mall so empty ever,I remember going in there a couple of months after it opened and it was like 90% empty,I told myself it's new give it a few months but it just never worked.
  5. I hoped the rumor of it getting moved to Zoo Miami would happen as it would have been 5 minutes from my house but I knew deep down it wouldn't happen. The zoo's been wanting to put a waterpark and family entertainment center there for years there and nothing ever comes of it.This really was a good coaster and it's shame.
  6. Got to see the dress rehearsal for the new Fantasyland today, was pleasantly surprised as I had no idea it would be open. The land looks great, really enjoyed the Little Mermaid and got to try the Butterbeer rival drink at Gaston's Tavern,it was like frozen soft applesauce with a light sweet foam, definitely more aimed at a younger crowd as I've never heard of a kid who doesn't like apple juice or apple sauce. That pork shank they have on the menu is like something out of the Flintstones,a huge bone with half meat and half grease, what was there to eat tasted good but I definitely won't be buying that again,a turkey leg is nowhere as messy. Can't wait for the dwarves coaster to open.
  7. I always liked coasters, rode coasters, enjoyed coasters but it wasn't until my first ride on Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa when I was 17-18 that something totally changed, like literally as soon as I got off that ride my brother and family just looked at my face and asked me what's wrong with me because I literally looked like I was in some sort of joyous trance, and I think I was for a good hour after riding it.Montu's still one of my favorite rides out there.I credit that ride to getting me hooked on coasters and I credit my first visit to Halloween Horror Nights II in 1992 to getting me hooked on theme parks.
  8. Wow,I remember seeing those orange bird sippy cups when I was a little kid,no way would I have ever remembered they existed if they didn't bring them back.
  9. What is up with Busch Gardens Williamsburg and the waffle cone sundaes, every time I've visited this park it seems like half the people are eating one of these.I'm from Florida and I've been to the Tampa park hundreds of times and I know they also have the waffle cone sundaes but never have I seen the waffle cone sundae frenzy there like I've seen on my 4-5 visits to the Williamsburg park.I know Tampa is hotter year round so you would think ice cream is more popular there, guess not.And a perfect example of why people just do what others do,I think I've bought the waffle cone sundae pretty much every time I've gone to the Virginia park and in all the hundreds of times I've gone to the Tampa park I think I may have bought it 2-3 times, there's rarely a huge wait for them in Tampa and yet I wait 20+ minutes for them in Williamsburg because that's what everyone's doing.
  10. I was there on the 24th,you must have been there either March 23,24 or 25 since the dude giving the seminar (Jason Cameron I think) was sitting in the table next to me at Via Napoli eating lunch between his two seminar times and those were his days there.I also caught the Guess Who 6:30 show which ended at 7:05pm and I somehow amazingly made it over to Universal to catch the parade and the B.O.B concert,I have no idea how I made it from the America Gardens Theater to the gates at Universal in 55 minutes. At Via Napoli that Carciofi pizza is ridiculously good.
  11. Anyone got video of the giant motorized Rubiks cube, just seeing the pic blew me away!!
  12. Someone mentioned that the outside section of the ride might get covered which does make sense as the ride does have to close for rain, but if this is true I will miss riding it in cold temperatures, nothing like coming back into the building with a frozen face.I also agree about that if the ride has to go down for that long someone is not going to be happy, you leave it open in the summer and close it in September what happens to all the Food and Wine people and then the Holidays right behind it,it's gotta go down at some point.Hopefully whatever changes are made to the ride are worthwhile as I love the ride as it is now but would welcome a change.Another vote for singles not to get touched,it's great to not have to worry about getting FP's for it or if the standby wait is 90 minutes, look at Toy Story Mania,I've only ridden it like three times as I'm never at DHS early enough to get FP's nor do I enjoy waiting 2 hours in line.
  13. 2002 Islands of Fear, the first year they had it in IOA was absolutely one of my favorites, the houses were far from the best but the IOA atmosphere combined with cool things like 6 feet of foam in Toon Lagoon made it a memorable year. The second year they used both parks they used them better, the first year with 2 parks, 2004 wasn't too bad overall either as they had good houses like Castle Vampyr,I just didn't like how they used IOA,it was just technically saying the event is at both parks.I agree that the last couple of years HHN have felt the same with the houses and scare zones in the same exact location so a change due to the construction in Amity would be welcomed.Financially for Universal it makes total sense to add Potter to Universal, just look at attendance numbers for the two parks,I'm not a huge Potter fan but something like two Potter areas in two adjacent parks with a train connecting them would be major, something like a Transformers ride being added there just doesn't have that wow factor,I still can't see how they would fit a train back there.
  14. The years they had 2 park HHN's were both pretty lame, because they didn't do it right. One of those years was 2004 (HHN XIV,What's your Breaking Point) all they had at IOA was a horrible 3-D house in Marvel Island and the Bill and Ted's show in Toon Lagoon. It's not a 2 park event if you're only using 25% of your park.Assuming that parts of Universal are out for HHN in the next couple of years is it true that the WWOHP is legally not allowed to have any kind of holiday displays(HHN,Christmas). If this is true then that would definitely have an impact on HHN if they were to go with Potter for the Jaws/Amity area, seems like they would have to create a bridge by Lombard's Landing to prevent access to this area for HHN,kinda like the bypass bridge they have at IOA.I also wonder if anyone knows the capacity on the Fear Factor theater versus the Toon Lagoon theater,I remember one year just having major issues getting to see Bill and Ted at the Toon Lagoon theater giving me reasons to think it's smaller.
  15. My brother and I were riding the rainbow ride at the Miami Dade fair years ago and if you know the ride it just has those silver bars that go from vertical to horizontal, well we got sent up with the bars at about a 45 degree angle .Luckily my brother was on the corner seat and we started yelling at the attendant to stop the ride, which luckily he did before the ride really started going.
  16. I went to Atlantis a couple times when I was young, from what I remember it was OK for it's day, like a Wet n Wild without any of the newer more unique slides.I think the sub from Atlantis was outside Boomers several years but I think it's been gone for a while now.
  17. I have no problem letting anyone know I'm heavily into theme parks, amusement parks, waterparks, rollercoasters,in fact if you just look at my car I have enough crud on it that would let anyone know what I'm into.My last piece of park stuff I had to buy cause it was perfect for my car ( a VW New Beetle) is a front plate which says "Doom Buggy" for the Haunted Mansion ride. Most people I know know I'm into parks and coasters n stuff,if it's nerdy to someone that's totally fine with me,I've been out of high school for a while now and can be as nerdy as I want. But in reality most people I know like friends, family and co-workers at a minimum at least like theme parks so most of them can understand me.
  18. I live literally 5 minutes from Zoo Miami,Dennis Moss the commissioner has been hyping up the zoo as becoming a true destination like Universal Studios, the problem is that these plans have been around for almost 10 years now,at least it seems that way. They planned for a waterpark and an entertainment center to come first, again the problem is that the county voted and it passed, but that vote was probably close to 5 years ago and still no waterpark,I contacted the zoo to ask about it and they said they were taking bids as who will build and run the waterpark. Then came the news Shlitterbahn would build a waterpark in Ft.Lauderdale,I believe one of these will get built but have to doubt both of them happening, and if Ft.Lauderdale already has Shlitterbahn they obviously have the lead. After the waterpark and entertainment center Moss said a hotel could come and then possibly even a full amusement park as right next to the zoo was a good amount of land for housing for the Coast Guard which is now sitting vacant.Again there's a lot of plans but nothing really happening. If they could move the Hurricane it would be awesome as it would be 5 minutes away but more importantly it may actually propel their plans into actions for the zoo.On a positive note after the zoo spent like $800,000 on their new sign outside the zoo I have seen more cars entering the zoo than in years past,I visited it last year when they added the sign and had anniversary days with $5 entrance and the zoo has gotten nicer,I still do the 4 hour drive to Busch Gardens 100 times for every one visit to ZooMiami 5 minutes away, but it wasn't all that long ago I visited Busch Gardens in the early 90's on a baseball trip and Busch Gardens wasn't much more than a nice zoo with the scorpion, python and a couple of water rides.
  19. Tower of Terror,it's an awesome ride, just getting put in a little carriage type vehicle with different people makes the ride fun every time. I can ride it all day without ever getting tired.
  20. Wow!!I'm about 40 minutes away from the ride but I haven't ridden it in 3-4 years,What's amazing is that I was just telling myself about 4 days ago to go and get the $12 wristband to get at least 15-20 rides on it.
  21. I still have hopes that maybe a month before it opens we get an announcement that the real name will be Cheetaka, the t-shirts and advertisements are somewhat fading my hopes but I still believe it's possible.Maybe they came up with those horrible Ed Hardy looking t-shirts to eventually make them collectors items of the name that never was for this coaster.I know it's happened before as I remember seeing a t-shirt up for sale somewhere on the net of "Banshee" the original name of Mantis.
  22. Magic Kingdom and for a year or two DHS the park would close early for day guests and open up again at 9 pm for graduating high school seniors, the event with concerts, fireworks and dance parties would last until 5am.Some schools that came from nearby might only go to the park for Grad Nite,if a school came from a bit further away they might stay for 2-3 days. When I went we left our school in Miami around 1pm ,got to Medieval Times for the dinner show at 6pm and then to MK where there was probably 1000 buses along with our 15 or so so the park is crowded. We left at 5am and were unconscious unti we hit a service plaza in St.Lucie county for breakfast.Disney should create a hard ticket event where adults can wreak havoc and pretend they're back in high school,I doubt it'll happen but I would go.
  23. You didn't notice a difference in Gwazi because you hadn't ridden it in 3 years,3 years ago I enjoyed riding it.Before they closed it for the refurb and new trains the ride was getting to the point were you were lucky if you didn't break a rib on it,it just wasn't fun at all to ride, after 1 ride I was done riding it for the day.I rode it last month and sure it vibrates like a normal wood coaster but you can actually enjoy the ride,I could have stayed on it all day.
