Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
traincrossin replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Time for me to put my 2 cents in. When I first saw the layout I was "Wait, that's it?" While i'm excited that King's Dominion is getting a new giga coaster, IMO it seems like could have done much more layout wise. That drop looks INSANE though! Hopefully the pacing won't be a big issue. I remember someone (I think it was the GG but not sure) saying how the downside of taller coasters is that the time between elements is bigger and may not deliver as big of a punch as a a shorter coaster. Now about the restraints, hopefully those low turns won't neck chop you like on Maverick, but that didn't stop me from thinking that it was an awesome ride! But the thing I have to remember is that CF isn't gearing the ride towards us but more towards the GP and I can accept that. I showed my brother a video of it and he said, "It's tall, goes fast, has airtime, looks like a lot of fun!" and think that's exactly what they wanted. Hopefully they will be able to bring in more people next year with this cool addition. I'm looking forward to it! My only question is how can Cedar Fair continue to buy these 20 million dollar coasters? Did Diamondback really bring in enough crowds to pay for such a coaster? I know that these coasters don't get payed off in a single season, but i'm still wondering how CF is able to keep building these giant additions. Isn't this kinda how Six Flags got into so much debt? -
Very nice TR! I'm surprised you liked Mind Eraser so much. For some reason this guy reminded me of Big Mike. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult.

Oh wondrous Title Fairy, could you change my title to "Wisconsin Dells Fanatic"? You are truly wise and this thread is a blast to read! All hail the Title Fairy! *bows* EDIT: Just noticed my title has been changed. Thank you oh wonderful and powerful Title Fairy!

Sorry for the double post, but I just found this on Screamscape. http://screamscape.com/html/six_flags_great_america.htm What does everyone think of our current parades? Do you think the Glow In The Park Parade would be better? When I was at Six Flags St. Louis, I actually heard a couple families and kids say that they didn't want to miss the Glow In The Park Parade, so I wouldn't be surprised if it replaced our current parade as it caters to families.

I just want to compare the supposed roughness to something. Rough as in B&M rattle kind of rough? Also, how do you get the easter eggs on the ride? I'm kind of disappointed by the reviews but not really surprised. Hopefully they'll get all of the kinks out before media day. [EDIT] Never mind, guy above me already said how to get the "easter eggs"

No, you're great! All you have to do to post the video is copy and paste the Youtube url and then click the "Youtube" button while posting. How many times has that video been posted in this thread now?

Just wondering, but has any construction begun on this ride? Footers, land clearing? I personally can't wait to see how this turns out, it looks like a fun ride! -
And this needed it's own thread why?

Can someone explain to me how Proslide's Hydromagnetic Rocket slides work? I can only think of two other master blaster ride styles, the one where water shoots you up the hills and when a conveyor belt launches you up the hills. But I haven't heard about master blasters with magnets before. -

I do know what our talking about. Big Mike is such a charming guy Great report JimmyBo! -
I do think that the Great America Raceway isn't as popular as it once was. I haven't seen it run both sides all season which probably is one of the reasons for the long line. Also, I would think that many of those cars are pretty old and gas guzzlers. But I don't think that you would have to remove the raceway for a GCI to fit there. Other things that could fit there would be any kind of flat ride. Has anyone heard of an official announcement or date regarding next season?

I was recently on a college trip in the St. Louis area and went to Six Flags St. Louis for an afternoon hoping to get on every coaster in 5 hours. Six Flags St. Louis is very nice for a park of its size. While it doesn't have the biggest coasters around, it still seems fairly well rounded. My favorite coaster had to be Evel Knievel. It was my first GCI coaster and I loved every bit of it! There were lots of awesome curves and pops of airtime throughout the ride. Another surprise was Mr. Freeze. The launch was nice but going through that inverted top-hat backwards with only a lapbar was my favorite part of the ride. I did take some video at the park so hopefully i'll have that up in a week or two. Enough of my random ramblings, onto some pics. I do have larger and higher quality versions of every pic if anyone would want a copy. Also, I suck at captions so bear with me. Night rides on Evel were way better than during the day! I was able to ride in the front and the back and it was a tie between the two. Overall it was a very nice day. Thanks for reading! Now imagine an enterprise with the seats facing outwards attatched to a giant frisbee. That makes this one of the most unique rides ever! Unfortunately I didn't get any daytime pics of Xcalibur. Who knew that villains liked mexican food? Batman has the longest line ever, not because it's crowded but just because it takes 5 minutes to walk through with no switchbacks open. It's like i'm looking in a mirror... Doesn't that just look lovely? Ninja, smoother than Screamin' Eagle. Although you can't see it, this ride has a tunnel which instantly makes it cool. Since when did a river need a king? And since when did a river need a train? Yup, it's a tree. Didn't I tell you I suck at captions? Is that the St. Louis arch? After riding I realized that the eagle was screaming in pain. It wasn't horribly rough, but it didn't make the ride any better. Next up was Screamin' Eagle. Mr. Freeze off in the distance. You might think that's the first drop, but it's actually part of the strange layout that is The Boss. When I saw this I thought that The Boss was going to be the Iron Wolf of wooden coasters. Oh no, The Boss is on fire! Lifty lift lift lift lift. What is up with Six Flags St. Louis naming rides after people? A cool part about Mr. Freeze is the dual loading station and the fact that the lights dim whenever a train launches. I nominate Mr. Freeze for the most shades of blue used on any coaster. It's big and blue and now it has you. Mr. Freeze is the coolest coaster on the planet, if by "cool" you mean ridiculously hot inside the queue. Does anyone actually follow the second rule? Because we all love the chainlift. Is that a stuffed animal behind the chain? Upskirt shot of Evel Wood, wood, and more wood. *drool* First up is the GCI goodness known as Evel Knievel. It's always fun going to a new park! Here's the entrance area. Why does this ride seem so familiar? Welcome to St. Louis!
