Photo TR: Six Flags Great America 5-25-09
traincrossin replied to traincrossin's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I got some pics of Buccaneer Battle on my last trip. Check it out! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51131 -
A couple weeks ago an invite was sent out to coaster enthusiasts to come out to Great America for a free Food Network dinner. Not much else was said, so it was a bit of a mystery going into it. For anyone who watches Food Network, they were filming "Dinner Impossible". The misson? Make dinner for 250 people before the bells rang in The Mission in the Southwest Territory. They started the day at 10am in the Pink Flamingo Cafe in Hurricane Harbor and then had to transport all of the food back to The Mission. Supposedly they made it with 31 seconds left. And who doesn't like free food? The theme was taking normal theme park food and putting a "twist" on it. Overall, it was awesome! This was the first time that I have gone to Coasters After dark and I wasn't expecting much, just some more time to spend in the park. The crowds and lines were pretty much the same as they were during the day even though only season passholders were allowed into CAD. They did have a couple major flats open as well like King Chaos, Revolution, and Giant Drop. Despite the lines, it was a lot of fun. Ride Totals Whizzer: 1 Batman: 1 V2: 1 Eagle blue side: 1 Train: 1 Viper: 1 Giant Drop: 1 Demon: 1 Buffet: 1 Pictures! No, V2 actually goes that fast! Ran over to Bull but they closed the line early, so I went on Giant Drop instead. Thanks for reading! V2 without the holding brake just isn't the same. Look, a seizure booth! I love this ride! Some Viper awesomeness! Eagle red side was only running 1 train. They were doing some work on the other train and did put it on later that night. The aftermath. I tried to convince people to ride the teacups after dinner, but no one was up for it. And now for some blurry night pics cause my camera sucks at night. They interviewed a couple people. Watch out for an August 26 air date! BUFFET!!! The bells that didn't actually go off at 7:00 like they should have I did go on Giant Drop for the first time that night. It was actually a lot of fun! Now we're in line, for food! Everyone congratulating each other. Enough talking about the food, i'm hungry! Robert talking to everyone about the challanges of the day. OMG OMG OMG Robert Irvine! Mr. Six even showed up for the fun. Anyone know the heimlich maneuver? Hi random camera guy! The camera crew I spy a camera! Also, notice the other centerpiece. They had to move all of the food from Hurricane Harbor to The Mission The centerpieces were pretty cool. This is a lapbar from Viper. Don't worry, they won't miss it. Time for free food! For some reason Bull was sedning out a bunch of empty trains throughout the night. I have no idea why. Yup, it's a lift hill. I've never seen the line go back to the tunnel before. Everyone is here for CAD I guess So close... Decided to give Demon a ridee today Seriously? Again? Theming! This line only took 30 minutes. Yay! Oh no, that can't be good Next up was Batman The holding brake is still not working Hot swing action I still don't know what to think about this. The park is clean, but the cleanest IN THE WORLD? Iron Wolf is pretty, pretty rough that is. I spy something yellow. B&M goodness. Also, notice how long Viper's line is. I like how this one turned out. So close to getting that signature shot... Yup, people are still checking out Eagle Look at that clearance The train was pulling into the station, so I hopped on. I wanted to go on Eagle, but they were inspecting it or something. I've never seen them do this before and they said that they do it more than once a day. Can anyone confirm that? That's all from Buccaneer Battle That's right, there are 3 Buccaneer battle signs! The haystack dryer is now only $3! (it was $5 earlier in the season) Tick tock tick tock... That bucket on the top drops water on unsuspecting victims. Now that's just stereotypical. Sorry, i've got crabs. The kraken lives on! Why does this sign remind me of Deja Vu? http://sfgamworld.com/gallery/v/SFGAm/DejaVu/DejaVu_2.jpg.html Even though not to many people were on the ride, all of the midway cannons were full. I love the ride op tower. Empty queue... for now (wait till it gets warmer) Right now people have to use Demon's l o c k e r s, but I wouldn't be surprised if BB got them next year. All of those cannons fire water and get you soaked. Each boat sits 8 people. Supposedly BB will have the highest capacity in the park. Some of the cool theming. Boats, water, pirates, fun! I forgot to take pictures of Buccaneer Battle last time, so I took a bunch for redemption They gave us these nifty neon wristbands. Where do we register again? Yup, we're here for free food! It wouldn't be a trip report without a picture of Columbia Carousel We're here! We got there around 4:00.

On the note of V2, could they be doing it just to save money? I'm not sure how much money it would save though. Aren't they running only 1 side on Superman The Escape at SFMM and not having it go as fast as it can to save money? IDK, random guesses. Last year when it "broke" we thought that it was they couldn't get to the midway because V2 isn't near a service road, but now that it has continued into the season, I think it is just to save a little money. I think lines are longer because more people are coming to the park. I'm sure with the economy the way it is, more people are buying season passes and coming to the park more often. At Coasters After Dark, I heard that it was way more crowded then it usually is. Also, American Eagle's line isn't as visible from the midway so people don't know it's long to begin with.

I'm still looking for Cedar Point 2008 map. I just wish I had more to offer than SFGAm 2009 maps that everyone else has. -
Do the dryers actually dry? I've heard yes, no, and kinda answers. The dryers are only $3 now instead of $5. I enjoyed Buccaneer Battle a lot and think it will be a hit because it is interactive not only by shooting targets but also by having hand crank guns and the ability to get people on the midway wet as well. Anyone know what the capacity is? I've also heard high and low answers.

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said

I'm sure there are lots of Disney myths out there. I actually had no idea that there was a basketball hoop in the Matterhorn. Here's a video I found about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63TKKg-KRP0 -
How dare you little *****! By the way Whizzer is the only of its kind in the states! (2 left in the rest of the world) I really think Whizzer, although a pain to maintain. Isn't going anywhere soon! I don't think Six Flags cares about history at all. Where is the Sky Whirl? How many are left? But I do think that Whizzer is a great family ride and that's what Six Flags wants now. You remember what happened the last time they tried to get rid of Whizzer right? Horrible outcry or something. I remember there was a sign above Whizzer that said "This is the last day Whizzer will be open" Come back a year later and I was releived to see it still open.

Yay, a SFGAm thread! Iron Wolf is an OK ride IMO. While it can be rough, it is historic. I think the layout is actually pretty good, especially in those back trees. I think one of the main reasons the ride is so rough is because it uses Intamin trains instead of B&M trains because it was their first ride. In other news... Buccaneer Battle -Hasn't had any long lines yet this season, probably because it's not that warm out, but once the heat of the summer comes the line will be packed! I did have a chance to ride it and even though practically all of the boats were empty, I still had fun and there were plenty of people on the midway using the free water guns. Also, the ride is much easier to advertise as family friendly because it isn't hidden indoors so people can actually see what they're getting themselves into. This should lead to more satisfaction than there was for The Dark Knight The Dark Knight *Spoiler Alert* -More theming has been put in this year, but it looks like it was the original theming that they never put in like some pipes on the drops or the bus on the brake run. It also has some random disco light in the brake run -It's actually made the ride somewhat enjoyable, but not the best ride in the park by any means Food Network "Dinner Impossible" Filming -This happened Friday June 12th as a free event for 250 coaster enthusiasts (of which I was one of. Look for a PTR soon!). They got to work at 10am at the Pink Flamingo cafe in Hurricane Harbor and had to transport all of the food to The Mission in the Southwest Territory. The "theme" was typical theme park food made with a "thrilling twist". Supposedly they had until the bells rang at 7pm and they made it with 31 seconds left. V2: Vertical Velocity -Holding brake is either not working or is shut off. This was also the case during Fright Fest last year and I really don't think the ride is the same without it That's all i've got.

SFGAm June/11/09 [PTR]
traincrossin replied to kumba830's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hm, never heard that one before. Nice report! I was wondering what the lines were like because on friday they were decently long because of Coasters After Dark. I'm glad you like Whizzer to, it's one of my favorite rides! -

I live closer to SFGAm so those are the primary maps that I will be offering to anyone who wants one. I'll probably be going to the Dells sometime during the summer so i'll be sure to pick up a bunch of extra maps for everyone along with other parks I visit this year. I don't think i'm going to Virginia anytime soon, but thanks for the offer. With that said, i'll trade my SFGAm 2009 maps for anything else. -

Whoops, phrased that wrong. I'm sorry I have a SFGAm 2009 map and i'm looking for a Cedar Point 2008 map. It seems like we have a lot of SFGAm locals on this thread with a lot of extra SFGAm 2009 maps. This is going to be tougher than I thought -

When I got my TPR hoodie, Robb also sent me some cool park maps from a bunch of their trips (thanks Robb!) A small start to a collection, but it's a start nonetheless. I didn't pick up a park map from my trip to Cedar Point last year. Anyone willing to trade a 2008 Cedar Point map for a 2009 Six Flags Great America one? -
Taken from the Cedar Point Blog That was a great and very entertaining report. I was thinking about going to Coastermania, but I had exams to study for. But it looks like the ERT wasn't exactly the best anyways. It was a very acceptable report, I actually do care, and I need to work on some dry humor in my reports. (if you've read any of them, they're pretty bland)
