  1. Nice job. So how many rides does Wynadot lake have? Should I be sad that it is being dismantled? The coaster is being saved right? I really don't care much about the park itself, but any wooden coaster in danger concerns me. The fact that it's 50 years old and apparently a crowd favorite should entice the zoo to keep it, I don't see why they would tear down a perfectly good wooden coaster in any case actually... but then again, people can be stupid.
  2. MERG... Would you believe I forgot my camera? Tch, I just got back from a trip to SDC. The park was great, even with 20,000 people in the park, Wildfire had at most a 5 min. wait. PowderKeg held a 40 min line most of the day, but at night it got down to 10. So I got loads of riding in, even with throngs of people. They kept the park open awhile extra as a courtesy as well. SDC is truelly fantastic. Yeah, about the giant swing, not much had changed, but I figured out how they will connect it to the park. The path will go through the firemen's graveyard and the outside eating area of the riverside rib house up the location. The location however, is still elusive. They will either have to move the train tracks significantly and fill in a valley some, or put the area far away from the park. Grandpa's house/Robber's hideout will have to be moved as well.
  3. Wow, the park looks great. The coaster looks rather beat-up, but eh. How good of a ride is it? Btw, How well did the park do this year? I may plan a little trip up there myself next year.
  4. mmpft. Looks like they are copying Premier and S&S, but who can blame them? This is very nice of them, maybe they'll pull of some half-way decent rides with this, but I still would much rather have S&S do the job.
  5. Wasn't Joyland re-opened? Can anyone fill us in on the current situation of the park?
  6. I agree. Yeah, the only park that can compare to SDC is DW. I don't know which is better however, as I've only been to SDC. Anyone been to both at christmas time? SDC puts on an amazing display at christmas either way.
  7. Meh, sounds over-done to me. Yes, the fast-food industry can belch out some pretty nasty products, but alot of this looks like it was backed secretly by PETA and other interested parties. I'm well aware that what I pay $1 for in a fast food restraunt will most probably not be too good for me, but a big mac every blue moon won't kill me, nor anyone else. But yeah, I can see some good points being made in this movie. Far to many people eat way to much fast food, and end up sick and fat and somehow don't know why, so maybe this will teach them a lesson.
  8. Wow, so many great entries, it was hard to choose, but I did end up choosing J-man's, Tömmioh', and jsguilkey #1, but almost all of them were as good. Makes me think I need photoshop...
  9. Heh, yeah, some of these "newer" wooden coasters do tend to age terribly, but I hadn't noticed it on the GCI's... Eh, while I like a smooth coaster, I don't mind being thrown around a bit. In fact, I think many people go over the edge in criticizing certain coasters just because they are a tad bit rough. However, some rides are just terrible. My first and only ride on Mean Streak at CP was pretty bad, mainly because I sat in the very back, but yeah... it was just bad. There is a difference between being thrown around and having your spine snapped.
  10. I remember when I posted more or less this same question. I say, get there early, and jog to Millenium force or TTD as quick as possible, they'll fill up pretty quick. However, alot of people do that as well, so you may consider heading to Wicked Twister or Magnum first, who knows. My first visit, I was so perplexed at all the possibilities that I just started riding stuff right and left. One big thing though, make sure you go on a weekday. I went on a tuesday and the lines were great, longest line was an hour on TTD at midday, and most of it was due to mech. problems. Yeah, besides that it was like 15 mins for Raptor and Magnum, and most other rides as well.
  11. Whoa, that's a coaster? How do the cars stay on track? In fact, how do the cars fit to the track? Does it have cars? Nope, that's not what i was thinking of, I'll try to find it, It's been awhile.
  12. ^^Em, I wouldn't, but as long as you note where it came from I don't think it's that big a deal. Wow, I can't believe they are already pouring the cement, that's ususally one of the later steps, but I guess this allows them to get to the site easier. I'm heading to the park in exactly 1 week, 2 days, so I'll have a big photo TR for you guys.
  13. Nice, I always love the good ole' tiny independant parks. What does Scandia have besides the Miller? I've hardly heard of the park before.
  14. Meh, old news. Anyone hear more about that guy in Oklahoma that built a woodie in his back yard? And what about that kid in europe that built a huge coaster that had to be taken down due to building permit issues?
  15. Yeah, so I was listening to coasterbuzz's podcast, which was partly on this subject, and they made a good point about how something must be terribly wrong behind the scenes for this to be considered. I mean, really, a parking lot vs. a 50 year old amusement park... In addition, the Bartlesville Examiner Enterprise, and the Tulsa World had segments on Rick's response to the outcry. He said "We're not in a process like the one that elects the next american idol, where phone messages determine public policy. We are following the logical conclusion to an expired lease and willing to explore requests by Bell's" Hmm, at first, what he siad made me want to smack him. So the outcry of hundreds of locals doesn't mean anything to you Rick? That's really nice, shows you how much you need to resign. It's the second part of the above quote that makes me perturbed at Robbie, who runs Bell's. Rob really needs to get in the game, arouse all the public and official support he can get, and make them really want to renew the lease. But then again, it's not his fault that they won't renew the lease. Please, before they demolish one of the last remaining classic, independant amusement parks in America, please send a message of reason to Rick, at the address in the post above. Don't send a hate message, just a quick note explaining how important Bell's is and how a parking lot would be no substitute.
  16. ^^Did anyone else notice the odd looking building to the far left? It looks like an observation tower, but it also looks like the people are looking down into the building, like there's something in there. Maybe that'll be the new petting zoo.
  17. Once again, sorry to double post, but Screamscape has reported that a general outcry from Bell's has been noticed by the Expo leaders. PLEASE, everyone, contact the officials in that area and tell them how important Bell's is! Here's some contacts - County Commissioners District 1 - Wilbert Collins, Sr. 596-5020 wcollins@tulsacounty.org District 2 - Randi Miller 596-5015 rmiller@tulsacounty.org District 3 - Robert Dick 596-5010 rdick@tulsacounty.org I don't know how to contact the Expo staff themselves, but when I do, I'll post that info here as well.
  18. Oh, I wonder how much HFE considered Frontier City? I wouldn't mind them taking that over, it's small and has potential, but it still would take alot to get up to HFE standards. I just hope they don't go out on a spree buying up crappy SF parks, but I'm sure they're not that stupid.
  19. It's alright, there's usually a good amount on the back run, and the ride is pretty smooth for it's age. It also produces that tickly feeling in your stomach going down a few of those bigger drops, for me at least. If not for that, it's worth saving because of how historic it is. I mean, how many John Allens are there left? They are disapearing all the time, they'll all be gone soon... Plus, it's OK's largest, and best woodie, and it's the only credit within three hours of me. I hope Bell's at least re-locates, I can see them just throwing in the hat after getting hit in the face like this, but I can only hope. There's almost no chance Zingo would be saved if a new park was started anyway. Btw, If anyone wants to know what the park/fair looks like, I have a photo TR here - http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29708&highlight=bells and here - http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29303&highlight=bells
  20. I just don't understand it, in the article they said they lost money the last two state fairs, but during them, they were packed out. I think something must have been drastically wrong with how Robbie ran the place, cause there's no way there should be financial issues, except for the money they lost during the court battles. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarg, this was my home park, now I officially have no coasters to ride, unless I travel 3 hours. How did it go from planning a new woodie and 2 flats next year to this? And what was the point of all this? Why are they so intent on turning a Tulsa tradition into a parking lot? What about the revenue? what about the tradition? What about what the community thinks? Heck, what about the lost income for the State Fair?
  21. No...no... it can't be.... After all this, after all my hopes getting up, it ends like this? WHY? Wow, I'm soooo pissed right now, I can't hardly type.
  22. Wow, check out Midwestinfoguide.com for detailed drawings of the whole site. Looks incredible, way better than I had ever imagined. I was worried that they were going to harm the atmosphere of the park with this, but it fits right in. Loads of gimmicks and doo-dads are being installed along with the Screamin' Swing as well, which look like loads of fun.
  23. Absolute Sweetness, at least there's one good ole' park out there that's doing well and expanding. Wow, the layout looks great, I'm sure GG will be able to make it uber-cool. Man, this has always been one of thos e parks that I've swarn I'll go to one of these days, this just adds to the pressure. Anyway, it sounds awsome, I'm glad they can keep on their tradition.
  24. Here's the story - http://www.tulsaworld.com/NewsStory.asp?ID=061107_Ne_A9_Lease14389 Arrrrrrrrrrrrrg, and I had gotten so excited when the new woodie was announced... Surely, somehow, they'll pull through this, I can't imagine the expo leadership and the Tulsa community letting Bell's close, I mean, think of how much it does for Tulsa and the Expo. In fact, Bell's pulls in a sizeable percentage of the State Fair profits, and the tax revenue it gives back helps the ole' Tulsa budget. I can't imagine being without Bell's, I'd have to travel at least 3 hours to get and thrills. I guess they could move to Jenks, but it would take them years, and Zingo would probably bite the dust. Wow, this would be what? The 12th park this year to close?
  25. Sorry to double post, but there's a big update. A new video and details have been added here- http://www.bransonsilverdollarcity.com/rides-attractions/ride_detail.aspx?AttractionID=862&track=SWINGLAND Wow, I'm getting more and more excited about this, I mean, look at all the detail... So we will be getting those lift things after-all, good. Seems wierd though, they have always tried harder to keep SDC away from being ride-oriented. Then again, The Grand Expo and this point away from that, so who knows. I really hope they get back in the mode of focusing on shops and the overall experience though, rides are nice, but I've always thought of SDC as more than just a place to get thrills. One thing that really burns me about SDC's new direction is the addition of carnival games, they popped up at the Grand Expo, and you can see some here too. They really take away from the atmosphere, and they are soooo expensive and scammy. This whole area looks great, but it's not like SDC at all. About the ride though, such quality... The themeing is superb, although it doesn't fit in with the ozark theme at all really, would have been better if they had gone a bit more germanish with the design, but that's just me being uber-picky. Nice how they're blending in the top to match the trees. It's nice to see them make an effort to make the area look nice even when they don't need to. I'm happy, I just hope they add some more shops and themeing next year.
