Joyland may fall victim to rezoning.
Shavethewhales replied to snuggles's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ah man, what a great looking park. It reminds me so much of Bell's, if but a bit smaller. Yup, 1 classic airtime-filled woodie + awesome classic dark ride + classic ride assortment + clean, classic, independent feel = fun all over. Yup, what a formula, so many parks have lost it, and so many parks that had it are gone. -

Pffft, don't be so unpleasant, you can't tell a ride from what it sounds like in a POV. Besides, unless you got huge bruises on your legs, don't be so quick to complain whenever a coaster's elements aren't perfectly smooth. Really, one of the main purposes of roller coasters is to scare you into thinking that you are out-of-control. If you want a pleasant trip along some tracks, you can go ride the train. To me, Rage looks fantastic. I think it and the Mystery Mine show the true far and wide potential of these machines, I wouldn't be surprised at all if these started popping up everywhere soon like the Pinfari's and Schwartzkopf's of old. -
Drop towers are great, but I wonder what the "family-friendly coaster" will turn out to be. It'll most likely be a small Zamperla or Vekoma creation, but there are quite a few possibilities. Anyhoo, it sounds great, adding a new coaster and a major ride like a large drop tower is a sure way to kick the park off on a good run.

The Whip at Blackpool (UK)
Shavethewhales replied to verticalzero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They better get around to re-opening it, I love whips. They make up yet one more example of a ride that some company should pick up and start manufacturing again. How old is this one? -

Ah man, today I picked up my wii-mote only to find it not working. After changing the batteries and re-syncing several times, it still isn't working. Anyone else had this happen? -
I respect the opinions of others, and I do agree that of course there are great coasters and sucky coasters, but I too get annoyed at those who pass off many fine rides because they aren't the biggest and baddest out there. Take Zingo at Bell's for an example: it's a very fun ride, with some nice air and good over-all smoothness, but many bash it due to the small bit of roughness at the end and the fact that it has less air than other woodies. I also get a little peeved when people start screaming to tear a ride down because it gets a little rough or isn't exactly what they want. I'll have many disagree with me I'm sure, but I don't like it when rides are perfect, to me, a small amount of roughness and shakiness keeps it real. I'm perfectly fine with differing opinions, but I'm sure most everyone agrees that its annoying for someone to pass off a fun ride just because they've ridden better.

Idlewild announces new ride for 2007
Shavethewhales replied to N'at Man's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Premier makes flying scooters? Huh... Anyway, that's awesome, flyers are one of the best classic thrill rides, I'm glad they're making a comeback. -
Eh, I'm not a big fan of these ride systems either, although they do look fun enough. It's just not really worth having that little dip at the top, it doesn't add much and makes the ride look odd. For me, the classic mill chutes are where its at: tunnels, theming, and one huge or multiple splashdowns are much better than these gimmicks. But eh, I'd ride this, I just think they could have done better with it.

Awesome, I would have done it. Skateboarding was fun when I did it long ago, but I never was able to get anywhere near good at it. It makes sense that this is incorporated into physical ed. though, I know many kids will take heart to this and get much more out of their gym classes. It kinda leaves them open to a lawsuit if something happens... but I guess that's true with everything. Still, I remember when schools everywhere cracked down on dodge-ball.

A new amusement park!
Shavethewhales replied to ArrowHater's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I just read on the site about the "giant roller coaster" coming in 2009, but how do you know its going to be a woodie? Does anyone know anything about it? I'm not going to go all the way up their just for a cheap spinning coaster, but if this turns out, I might just have to hike up there. Also, anyone have any updates or photos of the park? -
Horizontal bunjee jump

Oh man, imagine if the ATV went with it.... Yeah, I wonder how OK the girl was after all of this. This ride is just asking for something to go wrong, as if regular bungees were safe already. -
Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
^Hmm, I guess, I've just never seen it break down anything in my observation of things. Actually, I did go to a school where they enforced a strict dress code. My experiences there are what inspired my to write this article. -

Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
Hmm, yes, people keep saying this, but I have also kept saying that no, it doesn't truely break those barriers between students based on external factors. This is the example I always use: Take two students, an ugly one and a handsome one, and imagine them in the same outfit. Is there much of a difference? I would tend to think so. The point is that even when dressed the same, gangs, groups, and clicks still exist. Kids are kids, and they'll find ways to discriminate against one another no matter what. In the end, the only thing that will eliminate this is to increase the amount of logic and reasoning that is taught, that way maybe they will begin to break out of their youthful shells and see the world as it really is. -
Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
^Ah, yes, by now you should see that I'm bad at doing this. What I meant to say was that you will find a larger concentration of children who have parents that really don't care as much, or not at all, about what they do at the public schools than children at private schools. Surely a parent who didn't care as much wouldn't waste the money on private schooling. -

Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
The difference between public and private school kids is not that their forced or unforced dressing styles affect their behavior, it's that in most cases, the kids in private school have harder parents who drill things into them, and the kids in public school are generally more left alone. Also, many private school kids like myself come from more logical parents who take greater care in passing on logic and reason onto them, thus they aren't so crazy. How can kids pick on one another if they wear the same things? Please, do you honestly believe two different people will be exactly the same if they wear the same outfit? You need to read my article when I get my site back up. As for the rest of your post, yeah, I was wrong to say all kids are idiots, but many that I see are, and yes, it's an on-going problem. -
And that's exactly why it's gone. The place was a pathetic dump. Who would go there? Other than the Cyclone being a "funny" coaster it really had no redeaming value. I'd even go as far to say I felt more comfortable walking around Uncle Bernie's Swap Meet Amusement Park than I did William's Grove. --Robb Eh, well I've never been, but if I lived in the area, I would be sure to go. I love queer little parks like this, you never know what you'll find. True, they could have at least made some more attempts at fixing things up and paving and the lot, but at least the place was interesting. Was it very expensive to get in?

Here you make a connection between dress and performance, which I despise. If you want to teach kids more manners, or increase their intelligence, work harder on strict curriculum and logic building, not trivial things that will just anger them. @CoasterLou, ah sorry, that's what I got from your post. But still, how does making them appear to be on "a level economic playing field" help them out? I don't think it really would make all that much difference in their attempts at gaining knowledge if they felt poorer than the rest. It's too bad that some people are poorer than others, but what can covering that up do? Overall, it just inconveniences everyone. Ah, I talked to someone from a major high school near my today, and I can see to some degree why so many people are in favor of dress codes. Kids these days are idiots, I can't believe how ignorant they are, and they do need a stronger hold on them to teach absolute truths like logic and reasoning, but I still say dress codes don't fix anything, not in the least. Kids take freedoms for granted, and many are so drunk with the high school "I don't give a damn about anything" stupor, but strict dress codes will only make them angry and more prone to dissent. I say we need to crack down on teaching harder, and really concentrating on things like logic and reasoning, that way kids may gain an insight into dressing more... eh, smart. I got a great idea today, why don't schools just force dress codes on those kids who have bad grades and take their styles too far, and leave the smarter, more logical students alone? Surely then many kids would strive to perform better at least. -
Hmm, I hear people say this all the time. It deserves to die because it's in bad shape right now? Imagine how that would work if applied to humans. I think the place can be re-built to it's former glory, all it needs is a real park manager with brains enough to bring people back and balls large enough to enable him to come to meetings that are about his park.

Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
^I don't understand, how does it work? Fewer kids get bullied because of what they wear, but I'm sure the bullies find other ways to get at them, as you've stated, some kids are still different. @CoasterLou I got into a debate today and this was the leading argument for the opposition. It's true, uniforms in a school that divided can do some good, in the sense that it destroys the effect of poorer kids feeling lesser than those who are richer. However, I like to think that overall, it doesn't do enough to make it really worth it. One of the main points in my article is that no matter what kids dress like, the caste system will still exist, even if it isn't so evident externally. Dress codes may make it easier for poorer kids to fit into a rich environment, but in the end it doesn't do them all that much good. Anyhoo, I've re-written my article, and I do mean re-written. It's now a completely different animal, although it is still in need of much work. It's still repetitive, but I think in a mostly good way. If you want to check it out, Click Here. This time, I only really center on one point for why I disprove of strict dress codes, even though I can ramble on into all sorts of areas like you may have seen. -

Erg, I got my wii today at 6 a.m. and I've spent all day trying to get my TV to recognize it and play it. All the manual says is to set the input select option to whatever works, but my tv doesn't really have anything like that, per say. Anyone else had this problem? -

^^Well, there's plenty of time in high school too, besides, many colleges have dress codes now too. And about teaching them to dress for work, I just don't believe they should be drilled into wearing things based on what society dictates as "professional". I believe they need to see for themselves what their styles can do for them, not be brainwashed. It leads to them thinking up new ways to be even more "professional".
