Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Random, Random, Random
^^Eh, well of course they should be clean and neat to a point, and they certainly shouldn't be offensive, but I still say that they should learn to dress themselves and that a healthy competition to dress the best can be a good thing. It's tough on many students, but in the long run, it teaches a good lesson. It doesn't end when they leave school anyway. I've started re-writing the article, I'm sorry for how bad the sketch was, I should have waited till this re-write to post it. I've replaced the old article with what I've done so far, check it out. Thanks for all your input guys, it really helps. I notice there are a few more who side with having strict dress codes, I would like to hear your opinions please. -
Who's in Favor of School Dress Codes?

Actually, the entire article is trying to prove that dress codes are bad, but yeah, I should and will consolidate it so it's not so drastically repetitive. What real proof do I have? I'm trying to say, what real proof do they have? Also, yes, my school had strict dress codes and I can't tell you how much it angered my through high school, I'll be much more descriptive about it in version 2. But I don't think they should "just get used to it". I want them to learn for themselves how they should dress and why. Being free to dress in school teaches so much about how to dress to please, yes, the problem with this is that some kids can't dress as nice so they feel lesser, but kids need to experiment and see what reactions they actually get from their clothing styles and how to dress to please themselves and others. Hmmm, because they are completely different things? Dress codes in school try to teach that only the allowed measures are acceptable, which is wrong in my views. Dress codes at work are based purely off of what will please a paying customer. ------ Version 2 of my article is coming out soon, it will put the current version, which is but a mere rough draft, to shame. Btw, I should have noted that the initial version was just mainly sketchings, I would never publish that. -

Thanks for that, I will. Yeah, some of it is repetitive on purpose, I like to try out different ways of saying something sometimes. Yeah, that second paragraph was for fun, it'll be deleted in the next addition. As for the Disney movie bit, I dunno, I always thought it was a cliche in Disney movies to center on self-expression and individuality, but I may have been thinking of their TV series, it's been awhile for me to. Maybe I'll switch it to, "obviously they've never heard of Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer" or something... -
Bell's may be in trouble.
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Let's hope so, its always been a very poor fair except for the Bell's end. I have some more sad, sad news to report. All of the rides are disappearing, and several are confirmed to be destroyed for good, most notably the classic Bill Tracy dark ride, Phantasmagoria. Phantasmagoria was easily the second best ride in the park, and was classic, fun, and an over-all great attraction, it will be missed sorely. The car ride is pretty much confirmed to be toast as well, as are the chili peppers, log flume, and bumper cars. The date for the fair take-over is March 8, which leaves very little time for them to take out and move Zingo if they are going to try, which I doubt. If they gave up on Phantasmagoria, they'll probably give up on Zingo as well. -

Heh, yeah, I always write the first draft quite loosely, believe me, it'll change dramatically in almost every sense by the time I reach the finished piece. I like your point of balancing discipline with education, I don't see that much. -
What is the most awkward thing you can say on a coaster?
Shavethewhales replied to eli's topic in Random, Random, Random
Stating that you don't feel like you need a bathroom break anymore on the break run after an eventful ride always turns a few heads. -
So recently, I started writing about the effects of strict dress codes and uniforms on high school students for a large article I plan to get printed in a few newspapers. As I dug up facts, statistics and opinions about the issue, I was surprised and amazed at the dramatically illogical conclusions and arguments made on both sides, more notable on the pro side. Reasoning like, "They'll cut down on violence and crime around the school" because we all know we behave better when forced to wear ridiculous clothing. Or on the flip side, "They turn our kids into Nazis" because we all know clothes affect our beliefs. I had a lot to say about it; way too much in fact, as the article ended up being ridiculously long and repetitive, but I do plan to re-write it soon; but in the end, I came out avidly opposed to strict dress codes. I don't see how they possibly come close to fixing any of the problems they are induced to solve, rather, I believe they incite them ten-fold and add additional problems to the mix. However, I'm still open to suggestions to aid me in the second writing of the article. So then, what do you lot think about this? What are the effects of strict dress codes (especially uniforms) on high schoolers? What good/bad things do they cause? If you want to take a quick glance at the article I wrote as it stands now, Click Here, but I warn you, it's long, dull, and repetitive, that's why I need your input.

Korea to receive B&M inverted
Shavethewhales replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
hmm, 80-100 mph? For an invert? Wow, that'll be impressive, could this could be one of B&M's greatest hits yet? Why are all of the international parks getting these things? [Edit] Whoops, sorry I didn't see the 'k', its 80-100 kmph -

^I share your concerns, Phantasmagoria was a crazy, fun, fantastic ride. Yup, I'm really wondering at this point what will survive this move, most of the flat rides will make it easily, but what about the car ride, log flume, slides, and of course, Zingo? I don't know, but I'm doubting much will make it, I foresee Robbie taking the flats with him, selling Zingo to the fair, and building a new woodie and cheap log flume at the new place. It's just not feasible to "move" rides like Zingo and Phantasmagoria, in the end, what's been built is not the same ride, it's a re-make (not that re-makes are bad). Eh, maybe Robbie will attempt to move some rides or re-make them, I sure hope he does, but right now he just needs to find a new place. As of last Tuesday, he was still looking. -
Ralph Stricker dies

^Yeah, it looked really nice. Was he even still running it? He was 79. Amazing how he built his own coasters... -
S&S Water Ride
Shavethewhales replied to PkiJake's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Screamscape had a blurb about it - http://www.screamscape.com/html/iaapa_2006.htm I hope they bring back the classic Arrow log flumes, they are still so much fun. -
Ah, here it is, I got this from a Branson community forum, they were talking about a letter that someone received from SDC and in it, there was a survey over the three rides that could be coming to SDC. (I didn't include the info on the Giant Swing). Yeah, the pendulum ride that SDC would have gotten was shorter than what Calvin described, but who knows...

Bell's may be in trouble.
Shavethewhales replied to Shavethewhales's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That's what I'm praying for, but it sounds a bit like they want to just eradicate the entire park. Randi Miller and Rick Bjorklund have spent a lot of effort into convincing the public that Bell's has been run into the ground and needs to be razed for public safety, so they'll just want to knock it all down. We'll see though, I'm still waiting for some news, it's been several weeks since I've heard anything, I'm hoping articles like mine will revive interest into supporting the park. -

I hope no one considers this as spam, but I really can't post the entire thing here. I've just written a large article detailing the facts around this case, and it can be found on here Click Here. I think I did a good job on it, but I'll probably re-write it a bit soon and go into even greater detail. It's late, but I really care about this park and all small businesses that are sent through this kind of unjust ordeal. Please read it and tell me what you think. -
^Yeah, I figured that much, but I was thinking back to the way that so many buildings in DW and SDC look so much alike in certain aspects when they are completely different. It's hard for me to explain without going into scrutinizing little details that you really have to look to see, but especially things like roofs and windows seem to be copied in form throughout many of the buildings built by the Hershends. Eh, it was just a thought, I really don't care that much and it doesn't matter, but I am curious to see what this looks like due to the way the concept art made it look so huge and amazing.
-
^^Hmmm, I can't tell from the pictures, but SDC's looks like it will probably be at least taller than that, at least from what the artwork shows. How many people does the KW version hold? It looks like 32, which is what the Giant Swing will hold. ^Awesome, looks fantastic. I can't wait to see what the great barn actually looks like, I'm betting it may have some resemblance to the Mystery mine, in some way.

Hoodie The Movie
Shavethewhales replied to J man's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That made my week. That was one of the best "home" (for lack of a better word) movies I've ever seen. It was witty, it was clever, it was funny, interesting and just plain awesome. Thanks. Awesome musical score by the way as well, and the "special" effects worked out nicely too. I gotta get me one of them hoodies... -
^ Thanks for the info. Hmmmmmmmmm, A replacement for the Chaos would be nice, but by replacement do you mean that it will take it's old spot, or that it will fill the thrill ride gap it left? Wow, this could be pretty good. Btw, I'm still wondering as to why they took out the Chaos in the first place, I don't remember any operational problems that specific ride had... Didn't it have something to do with some reported restraint failures on the Chaos rides at some other parks? Ah, I miss it.
