It's actually not that difficult to assemble a truss... -

^I305 was a huge truss though, because the entire lift hill is supported only 4 places. From the looks of it, the lift pieces are not connected to anything, whereas I305 the track is welded directly to the truss. Also, from the looks of those pieces, there are a lot of connection points, so I doubt that is simply for a transfer track. -

As far as I know, the managers in area 1 (front of the park) judge by the wind indicators on Sky Ride. I think it's the only ride in area 1 with a wind indicator. -

No it does not. I work at the ride, and I know that the ride does not close in the wind since it is not a continuous circuit. There is no risk of rollback problems since the ride does it naturally. -

Also, Dragster does have a wind indicator, and as I was told by a crew member yesterday, it was too windy. When it gets too windy Dragster will actually give a trouble light. However, at least rides like Dragster can risk testing in conditions where rollbacks are possible. If it's windy and cold, there's a pretty good chance Raptor or Millennium won't open either. Can't really risk rollbacks on those rides. If it's a wind condition or light rain, rides like WT and DT should be open, though. Not that that's a good portion of coasters at CP... p.s. ^^Chris, you would take pictures of all the buttons. -

It kind of bothers me that people think wooden coasters should be smooth. Honestly if you don't like the way wooden coasters are, then don't ride them. Wood is rough, it's the way the ride is engineered and it's the way the material holds up. Not to mention Blue Streak is old. Not all coasters were built by Intamin. To be honest, in a way I like how woodies are rough. It's a different personality from steel coasters, and it's a lot more like a challenge than a ride. That's probably just me... -

^^The only difference is that Millennium Force has 18 rows and Leviathan will only have 8. As it is, Millennium's brake run seems somewhat short...you can only fit one train in the safety portion. The service brake can't even stop a loaded train on it's own. -
Ride Attendant Foul-Ups
coasterlover420 replied to UnderCoverDrummer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^No that is not true. Only the newer B&M coasters have indicators. Raptor and Mantis (I know first hand) do not have this. They CAN be dispatched with open harnesses. Also, with the OLDER rockets (again, I only know of Dragster specifically) the trains CAN be dispatched with the lap bars up. There isn't a way the ride can know whether the restraints are in locked position or not. Freehand, to discover whether an Intamin ride has restraint sensors, look at the contact plates that pop up underneath the train. If there are only 3 rails, the three rails are [+,-,ground] to release restraints only. If the contact plates have 5 rails, there is additionally [+,-] to indicate that all restrains are down past a certain position. These are present on Maverick, in fact there is a confirmation button each panel must press before dispatching trains. To tell on B&M coasters, there are similar electrical rails that lie underneath the train in the station, and they are usually underneath each car. These are visible quite well on newer hypers (i.e. Diamondback). If those are not present, then the ride has no way of knowing if the restrains are down. You can also tell with the even newer rides, because the control host must indicate verbally that the train is locked, or whether there are specific seats where the restraint is not down far enough. IMPORTANT: I am referring to restraints that are not DOWN, not restraints that are not LOCKED. There are proxys underneath the harness release rails on every roller coaster that sense whether or not the train is LOCKED, but not whether the restraints are DOWN. -

Maybe I'm the only one who doesn't think that brake run seems too long. On all the other B&M coasters I can think of, the Safety and Service brake together (usually make up the Main brake) are at least 3 times as long as a typical train, maybe even longer. It might even be split up into 2 separate blocks considering there isn't a MCBR. -
Ride Attendant Foul-Ups
coasterlover420 replied to UnderCoverDrummer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Yeah, I noticed HW was a lot less strict about that. They never had to signal to controls for crossing, or even wait til the train parked. I was a little dumbstruck, but I guess they allow it if they're careful. I think it might have something to do with the fact that CP has so many employees it's hard to manage or even trust that many people...just a thought. -
Ride Attendant Foul-Ups
coasterlover420 replied to UnderCoverDrummer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That is not my point. There actually isn't a physical or electrical mechanism on these coasters that sense whether the restraints are closed or not. And to add onto an earlier post, I am referring to restraints being open yet locked. Not unlocked. Restraints can't be unlocked unless they are stationary in the station or with a battery pack or key. -
Ride Attendant Foul-Ups
coasterlover420 replied to UnderCoverDrummer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^That's not true of all coasters, in fact only newer coasters. All the coasters except Maverick (newer) at CP don't do that. They are all able to dispatch with open restraints. In fact, I've seen the mechanics do it on Dragster many times. (I'm not sure why a ride like Anaconda would have a system like this, if you were just referring to that one coaster. Does it?) -

Ride Attendant Foul-Ups
coasterlover420 replied to UnderCoverDrummer1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This is mostly different by manufacturer. All the Intamin rides at CP, once you push the button, there's no stopping the trains without hitting quick stop. On most/all others, you just need to lift your finger off the button. B&M insists on the latter for every one of their rides, and what sucks even more is you have to hold the button the entire time the next train is parking too. -

coasterlover420 replied to BDG's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well there are a lot of factors that would weigh in to something like this, but I think the only significant difference would have to be the strength of the motor; just to move the extra length of the chain, because the train's gonna weigh the same if not less than a typical hyper (only 8 rows), and gravity isn't going to change the taller the ride gets, so the same force will get the train moving the same speed up the lift, just for a longer period of time. Also, you take into account the stress on each individual chain link, which would be the same as any other hyper (again, 8 car train), which means the Leviathan chain should break about as many times as any typical B&M hyper coaster. -

Here's a list of coasters that ranked better than Magnum: 1. Top Thrill Dragster 2. End of conversation You have to think there's something going on with this 2011 poll....but hey, I'm not complaining I think it has something to do with the parks where these coasters are. Cedar Point is probably the main destination, so most coaster enthusiasts have been there, whereas other parks are either local or visited for a purpose specific to personal preferences or restricted by money/time constraints. There is also the problem of company competition, and we all know how competitive enthusiasts can be... -

That's what I was thinking, since Main looks quite long with the Transfer after it and then an extra block after Transfer, or so it appears. In that case, I would guess that the third train is only to make sure there is a train in the station once a train is dispatched and another one is moving through Transfer. I wouldn't imagine B&M to design a block setup like that. The ride seems just about as long as any Batman, which to me means lots of stacking...well I hope not.
