The Cal-OSHA report still isn't public from the last breakdown and if Knott's can't make any required corrections or re-open it; I see them demolishing it over leaving the tower SBNO. How do they get the cabin down sooner if the ride breaks down again? Windseeker had to go after the second extended breakdown so Sky Cabin could too. It is a nice ride to take pictures from if the plexiglass wasn't all scratched up by the delinquents. You're assuming that the unfortunate breakdown was not already in the SOP as a "worst case scenario." No ride is 100% failsafe. Many already have it outlined what conditions require emergency personal for evacuation and DOSH has no problem approving those. We just don't know at this point. Could just be as simple as they knew it was going to be part of the active construction site soon and used the evacuation as an excuse to save some labor before they shut it down for construction.

Six Flags doesn't own any of the SFMM land. They rent it on a long-term lease that restricts the land to be used as an amusement park or the lease is canceled and the property reverts to the owners. I don't know if they can also build a hotel on the property but they would probably need to start considering a parking garage at that point to make it fit. I doubt a hotel would raise the price of passes as it would be a sperate profit center. SFMM doesn't operate daily like Universal, Knotts, and Disneyland so they would probably need to pull some local offseason weekday business traveler traffic to make a hotel profitable in that expensive of real estate area. Warner Brothers had plans for a CityWalk concept with a hotel/restaurants/shops for the area on what I believe is now the office building they built coming up the hill. As far as I can tell, Six Flags does own the land under a separate LLC known as "Magic Mountain LLC"

I'm going to play Devils Advocate here for a moment. If what you say is the case then why did they include the Dance Hall in the background? No I think it's pretty clear that Sky Cabin is coming down and Boom'about becomes a planter I will one up you: Perhaps Knott's intentionally left sky cabin out of the rendering because the new project will integrate it and/or wrap around it and they don't want to "tip their hand"...

Should observation towers make a comeback?

If there is an actual interesting view to showcase, then they make a great family attraction. -

I hope they aren't paying for it, since they essentially have a lemon at the moment. I feel bad for all involved, since I don't think it is for lack of effort that it is always down. The park is almost in a worse situation by having it be so inconsistent they can't even give clear information---seems like it never lasts a whole day, but opens as much as possible. -

I don't think this is a true re-location...seems like they are building a whole new park and just moving the name over to the new location. In any case, looks amazing! -

the Gold Striker troubles were the result of the park not following an agreement they had with developers. Long ago, when that land was sold by the park to developers, the loudest ride at the park was probably Demon. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I don't think the park or developers foresaw the fast pace of ride development which made them taller, louder, larger, etc. when they made the agreement. -
I could see them opening earlier on a weekend only schedule, but I don't think the demand is there to make it worthwhile. As Elissa said, the workforce is largely college students for lifeguard positions and still high school kids for the food/retail/etc. positions---not easy to train within their school schedules and work permit laws.

Someone would be incredibly rich if they could invent a ride system that has 100% reliability no matter what the circumstances are.... -
Busch Gardens Tampa and Mall of America are not competition. The majority of Knott's business comes from locals. Disneyland will tell you if a ride is closed for refurbishment if you search the show/attractions schedule on the day of your visit, but not when something will return. Not the most user friendly, but better than nothing. Magic Mountain and USH don't publish that information at all. I missed out on seeing how awful Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin was (which I was genuinely looking forward to---I wanted to see if a ride could really be that bad ) because it wasn't published that it was only open weekends. Didn't end up phasing me because I realized I was in Orlando on vacation.

I guess I know nothing except old wife tales But Funny you mention the 16 year old ride op thing... I wouldn't be surprised if practice of checking restraints also became standard practice because somewhere along the way someone realized "holy crap, if we don't have structure with how we train these people...something bad is going to happen."
