  1. Aside from Edgar Martinez & David Ortiz, there hasn't really been any star DH's that I can remember. It prolonged the careers of declining stars in the previous era before sabermetrics, 90+ MPH fastballs being the norm, and seemingly every team having freakishly athletic young talent. Ultimately, Baseball is becoming so specialized that using a roster spot for someone who is just a DH only makes sense if the player is a superstar and can REALLY rake (like Ortiz).
  2. Yeah, I imagine that the Pixar Parade will shift back over to DCA again when a new daytime parade for Disney is ready.
  3. The biggest problem with that is that it would likely stretch the post-season even further into November.
  4. There's more, but that kind of summarizes the development and operation of X. Anyone working in maintenance or operations when X opened (not X2) will have stories.
  5. The front end ride control software was a windows program. That's all you need to know.
  6. SFMM added weight to theirs as well. They didn't want it flipping too much.
  7. To be honest, I'd like it the other way around---pitchers hitting produces some awesome and hilarious moments. Love it when a pitcher comes up with a clutch RBI or home run, and also love seeing them flail away like they barely even know how to use a baseball bat. Especially if Shohei Otani makes it to MLB and lives up to the hype. At the very least, I'd like them to adopt the college rule where a pitcher can be designated as P/DH and hit and subbed out as one or the other as needed.
  8. That was my thought as well. And then to top it all off, the Pixar fireworks and parade is in Disneyland...
  9. The Pixar ball is clearly behind mickey on the wheel. It looks like they couldn’t make up their mind and ended up photoshopping Mickey onto the concept art. This whole thing is a terrible overlay.
  10. People don't normally flip upside down while in a vehicle with wheels either. Better stop making roller coasters because that's not realistic! It's a theme park ride. I don't like water rides in general, but rapids rides are great fun in a group---the random spinning nature of the rides make it fun to laugh at the person who gets soaked (or be laughed at if that is you). Grizzly is one of the better ones out there with the drop.
  11. I am not OK with any of this.
  12. You can get the cider at Boardwalk BBQ as well. The "boysenberry bite" (mix of cider and beer) is quite good.
  13. Dark Harbor uses its setting to its advantage, but the detail is nowhere close to Knotts. The best thing about Dark Harbor is the ship and all makeup on the talent. It was being discussed a page ago. A few stagecoach trips is a whole lot different than moving entertainment event stuff...which is what those warehouses house when not home to a maze. They had to be built because warehouse P (the main warehouse) was full. The entertainment department is responsible for Haunt, Berry Farm, and now Ghost Town Alive and the Boysenberry festival decorations---all of that stuff has to live somewhere when not in use. So even using your math of $10mil+$30mil+$25mil, that would 40-50% of Cedar Fair capital expansion budget for the entire year. And that is not even factoring in the cost of whatever hypothetical expansion actually is. But you are not likely going to get a 320 room 3* hotel demolished and rebuilt for $25 million. Also, most importantly...the park drew 4 million guests last year with an expanded Boysenberry Festival, Ghost Town Alive, and a flat ride that has barely been open as the new additions. They don't need a massive expansion to stay profitable. They get what their place is in the local market and do a fantastic job capitalizing on that. Comcast or Disney have enough cash on hand to buy every outstanding share of Cedar Fair stock ($3.52B) if they chose to do so---Knott's isn't competing with them.
  14. Jump on the train from Harrisburg and enjoy the weekend in the city! Meadowlands is sure easy from Penn Station! Does that train always run now? I went for usc vs Syracuse and had to bus it from seacaucus. Or are they still waiting for this project to make it daily?
  15. But it’s much more fun to live in a fantasy world where Knott’s can finally build that gigacoaster
  16. The property was purchased by Arcturus Group, Avenue Capital Group and Elliot Management – investment and real estate companies. Don’t know who any of those are, but they own it. Arcturus operates it.
  17. Moving those warehouses across the street without also constructing a vehicle bridge would be a logistical nightmare for the park. No way Haunt would open on time without a lot more labor being thrown at it. Building parking garages and moving backstage facilities across the street would likely cost what cedar fair spends in an entire year for the whole company. That doesn’t even take into account the neighbors, who I am sure would be thrilled to have 24/7 operations closer to their backyards.
  18. The city Anaheim does not own gardenwalk.
  19. Disney paid $32 million because there is no real estate available across the street from the park. All businesses on harbor will see a drop in revenue if Disney succeeds in drawing the majority of its guests to enter on the other side of the property.
  20. I’m going to assume they will still need the eastern gateway as a key focal point to sustaining growth. Just don’t think they wanted to wait any longer on the hotel. Also think they wanted to send a message to all those business owners on harbor who fought them that they don’t mess around——this project pulls people away from harbor Blvd now.
  21. I'm a little bummed this hotel doesn't appear to be themed at all. With the exception of the Grand Californian, I've always hated the fact that Disney charges an absurd amount of money for what are basically glorified Hilton's. This hotel looks to continue that trend, but it might as well just be a luxury brand instead---inflated even more than your typical Ritz Carlton or Waldorf Astoria would be priced. I’m sure it will still look amazing and it fills a huge void for the city of Anaheim (true high end hotel), but I really hope it turns out like a Disney “ultra deluxe” hotel and not a high end hotel that happens to be on Disney property. What I love is how all the hotels will be connected by a "resort area"...also never liked how everything was just thrown together as best they could. This looks like the first time they are really trying to master plan the area.
  22. COOL! I am in! You were probably there for King Ludwig's wedding... Also, thank you to Chuck for getting evidence I conquered my demons on that damn conveyor belt! 5th times the charm?
  23. That's terrifying to think about. Crowds and traffic are already nuts when parks are at capacity. Disney would likely have to invest $5 billion for the park and upgrading all the surrounding infrastructure.
  24. Oh, bummer. That's too bad because an open train would have been really cool what with it zipping through the trees. Maybe they can just take the shells off the current ones. No, that probably wouldn't work either. There's no trees for it to zip through anymore...
  25. Well, TTD reopened today, so.... Assuming this is true, I read that as Intamin updated the design of the catch car to improve what they saw as a design/safety issue and Cedar Fair isn't happy that version is more expensive. Which would make sense, since it looked like whatever the catch car did caused a lot of damage and needed to be corrected. But design/fabrication of a specialized part isn't cheap. Cedar Fair doesn't have a say in the matter, as running a ride without manufacturer approved parts would be negligence on their part and illegal in states that do have amusement ride laws on the books (they all say something along the lines of "follow all the manufacturer guidelines").
