Death of Small Waterparks
Jew replied to RollerC's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There's so many factors that go into a park staying open or not that I don't think it is fair to say that just the inclusion of waterparks is killing them off. It certainly doesn't help anything, but it's not THE deciding factor. It just seals the deal when there are other problems that can no longer be covered up (poor operations, rude staff, poor upkeep, etc.) since you have such tough competition. -
Unfortunately LA county jails are extremely over crowded, so stuff like this happens all the time in order to make room for inmates with longer sentences.

VIP tour programs at theme parks
Jew replied to kraxleRIDAH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Someone has to do it: Everyone here needs to keep in mind these tours are not meant for the enthusiasts who know when to hit a park. So when the inevitable bitching about the prices occurs, at least you can understand why they are more expensive. As for me? I recommend the USH VIP tour to anyone I know who won't be visiting again for a long time. For the price, I think you definitely get what you pay for. I was fortunate enough to be able to take the tour back in October and loved it! And this is coming from someone who spends lots of time at USH... The morning started by hanging out in a nice lounge above guest relations that had a limited continental breakfast available with some bagels, croissants, water, and coffee. We had a friendly guide who made sure we hit all the major attractions+plus added fun facts about the attraction (that part didn't matter to me at all, since I have seen all USH has to offer many times, but other guests seemed to like it). The highlight was a 2 hour private tour of the backlot and studio. Even though I had already visited many of the outdoor sets, I still thought it was cool for the bonus stuff that not even I had done before. We got to go into the Crossing Jordan soundstages, a mixing theater, and the prop warehouse. That's on top of all the standing sets we got to visit that I had already been on (Brownstone street, New York Street, Courthouse Square, and the Psycho House). Since they have now improved the tour (so screamscape says) with the all you can eat pass, valet parking, a park photo, and added more stuff to the actual tour...I very much intend to check it out again after summer. -

^^Betacam has been THE standard in news broadcasting for the last 20 years. Sony did alright with that format. -
Myrtle Beach Hurricane For Sale?
Jew replied to ElToroExtreme's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^It actually wasn't that bad (I believe the coaster for sale is the bat at Nigloland)...just extremely mediocre. -
Because it is an odd question.

Why not try and sell it? ^^Track is replaced all the time on wooden coasters...so that could be older track. -

Uhm...current BD players will just need a firmware update. Hardly obsolete. -

There's no such thing as too much Liseberg. -
I hear there is always parking available where the curbs are painted red.

PTR: Taking parking lot theming to new heights!
Jew replied to pete4winds's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I don't get what the big deal about a carnival being a parking lot is? It's pretty common...? -
It was staffing. Even running one train, Metro requires as many employees as RRv does with 2 trains. So if you're the Ops manager planning your budget, obviously RRv is going to get money first. And Maintenance certainly isn't going to have a problem taking it out of their budget if you tell them you have no intention of operating it (They actually did the preventative maintenance on the ride until 2003, when they finally decided to give up trying to get an operating budget for it)... Bombardier bought Universal Mobility's assets. Carowinds, Kings Island, the Calfironia state fairgrounds, and Kings Dominion have (or had?) monorails from the same company.

How the hell do you not know what Pirates of the Caribbean is????

So I was down in Irvine to see a show at the Improv, which happens to be right next to the Yardhouse. How could I resist 200 beers on tap? I had a Hollywood Blonde Ale and a Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale. Me enjoying the Arrogant Bastard Ale This is just one side of one of the two beer islands they have!

Six Flags 2007 Q1 Conference Call

I think I'd have a heart attack if SF started offering benefits to their line employees. -
So yeah, I was driving up the freeway to take my car into the dealership when I noticed a credit off to the side of the freeway. Turns out it was the Conejo Valley Days fair, which had 4 credits (3 new ones for me)! So we (myself and my friend Stefanie) decided to go check it out on Sunday... Just so you know the rules of this PTR. Credit Whoring > Buffalo > my "take your own photo" skills YES! Another credit for me! See...we're not credit whores. It's fun for the whole family! This is a credit! YAY! This is not a credit unless you are Jeff Johnson. Who is also very old. It's the midway. Very exciting stuff. OMG! Exclusive POV shot! Ehhh...at least it's not Budweiser This clown was into some dirty things... Get it. Trash Can. Dirty things. Look! It's another credit! It even had two spots of "OMFG..I just got insane airtime on carny coaster...I'm so glad I'm still alive" Futurama funhouse! 2 balls+cheerleader+$1...WHAA?? Oh, it's a dunk tank. "I'm just waiting to smack Jahan with this surfboard"

^But remember, he's never knowingly taken steriods. So that's obviously why he failed... Barry Bonds is baseball's biggest asshole. -

Way to leave out the date from the press release... July 29, 2004 http://www3.paramountparks.com/news/detail.cfm?item_id=264 -
Why does every SFGAm fanboy have a boner for the "timing" or "interval" on Raging Bull???

^Working at SFMM basically amounts to slave labor. Especially if they really rip off the internationals for rent like they did when I worked there.
-
^Unlike WDI, the ROTM electrical engineering team was smart and designed a ride that can just start and stop on its own whenever there is a backup. Not sure why they didn't do the same for Space Mountain...

Finding Nemo at Disneyland
Jew replied to Xtreme-me's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^That's Disney's strategy: get as many AP'ers on the ride before it opens so they will stay out of the line when it's open for the GP. I heard they are planning on doing early entry for hotel guests again to get them out of the way from the GP as well. ^^3 hours? I think that's a conservative estimate. All the reports say that the best the ride will be able to do is 1,000pph and no fastpass. I feel bad for the CM's who are going to have to deal with that.
