  1. Oh right. Chad Pennington is just the QB for the greatest turnaround in NFL history. Of course Peyton Manning was the undisputed MVP. Not saying that "p-money" didn't deserve it, but you're kidding yourself if you are trying to say that is an unbiased comment. Anyways... DOWN WITH THE BCS! Oh, sorry. Wrong level of football!
  2. All the economy/high gas prices did was take away that last 1% chance of success they had. The poor management has been discussed to death already. I still believe that with proper management, the place could have at least remained open (opening later, pay-per-ride model, more marketing), but now the place is damaged goods that no one wants a part of.
  3. I had the steak. And the chicken strips. And the Mac'N'Cheese. Cruises are awesome.
  4. It wasn't an accident. The kids menu rocked!! It was always my backup when the menu was "some cut of beef and/or chicken...and a lot seafood or other stuff I didn't want" I believe one night Elissa ordered three desserts too!
  5. ^Thanks for finding that thread. snoflake: please always be sure to do a search before posting a new topic. TPR has so many posts, pretty much anything theme park related has been discussed!
  6. Aha! So you were one of the TWO people needed for Kawasemi to qualify? Didn't Dave also not fill out the steel ballot? I'm actually quite dissapointed in some of our Asia travelers who didn't fill out the ballots. There are very few people in the world who have been on some of these coasters, and we had enough people on the TPR trips to help make them qualify. Hopefully next year they will see that their ballots DO count! --Robb The moral of the story is keep doing trips that include those awesome coasters so this doesn't keep happening (I didn't do last years poll either when Eagles Fortress didn't qualify). Seriously though...I'll just have to get started on it earlier next year, as I really just let the deadline pass without even realizing it the past few years.
  7. Very solid/fair/accurate top 10 IMO. Had I remembered to vote, my ballot would have been very similar. Eagle's Fortress and the Mega-Lites are the real deal. AMAZING rides.
  8. Brady's first season as a starter: 2843 yards, 63.9% completions, 18TD/12INT, 86.5 passer rating. Matt's current season: 3615 yards, 63.2% completions, 21TD/11INT, 89.2 passer rating. They could even finish with identical regular season records after their first season (11-5).... It's also worth noting Bledsoe had just signed his fat 10 year contract as the "star" of the Pats when Brady took over... Side note: I don't really care for the NFL or the Pats. But since I've known Matt and his brothers for a long time (Chatsworth High School/Northridge Litte League FTW), I have to follow him.
  9. ^Have you noticed the ads dealerships are running lately? You practically *DO* get 5,000 back. It's a win-win situation, since the dealer would not otherwise sell the car. It's the same idea for Hard Rock Park: if the city and county want the potential economic boost from HRP, they have to help it survive too. Personally, I'm not reading too far into the lack of bids. I think Screamscape is dead on. Lining up at least $35 million in credit (or paying in cash) is no easy task with the way things are. Companies are definitely going to want to do their own market studies, appraisals, etc. before making that committment. Without a doubt, someone will still end up buying the park once all the proper analysis is done. I certainly wouldn't take the word of HRP management!
  10. Side note: those LED screens must be at least 120ft long to have the effect work. Pretty impressive. Here's the companies website: http://www.sidetrack.ca/ But anyways...Eric brings up a great point: advertising! Everyone says there is no return on investment for peoplemovers like the metro or a new way up the hill, but advertising could help offset those costs when the economy improves. Of course, magic being magic, they probably don't want Metro back because it takes the same number of ride ops as most of their coasters (4 with only 1 train running).
  11. ^No, Dude. That's not how it is for every park. A well run park will know their staffing requirements well in advance of when they are hiring so they can develop a plan for filling those needs. A well run park will also have the option of saying "we have these spots...take it or leave it" without falling short of their needs because people will actually want to work there. Using your Disneyland example, it is my understanding that either ask what your preferences are and place you there if they have openings, tell you what the openings are and let you choose from what they have, let you know you will be working various venues, or tell you up front that you are placed in a department and your location is TBD. But anyways...The point I was trying to make is that there's a much bigger issue with a park if they have to stoop to what happened to Tyler. As I said above, perhaps it is because they only think of their employees as a required body?
  12. That's only "how it is done" for a poorly run park.
  13. ^Yes. I believe one of the trains is from KBF too.
  14. It's the same model and theme, but not the same coaster. Hector had some photos of it under construction in July, but Pole Position was at the Ventura County Fair in August.
  15. ^End of summer still implies that it was during the summer season. So it's not even a seasonal restaurant? The typical theme park season is Memorial Day-Labor Day.
  16. I have but one thing to say about all the comments towards Tyler and seasonal employees: perhaps one of the reasons so many people complain about Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks is because their managers share the very same attitude everyone here seems to have towards seasonal employees. If you treat your employees as nothing more than a needed body, you will get nothing more than the minimum effort (if that) from them. I'm totally with Tyler on this one. It speaks volumes about CP's management that would use TTD as a way to get him to come out and work, then show no remorse in switching him over to Camp Snoopy because there is a clause buried in the fine print of his contract about moving you around. My only suggestion is to stay away from a park that is just going to treat you as a body. You'll get experience, but if your bosses don't take an interest in your development/learning...you're not really getting anything from your "internship."
  17. ^It hasn't been done at USH since 2000. Back then it was inside the building that currently is House of Horrors.
  18. Straight from the USH website: It runs weekends in December until the 22nd, where it runs daily until the end of the year.
  19. maintenance/parts=constant flow of revenue between coaster projects.
  20. Went to the park for a few hours on Friday... It's still the same, medicore, but slighty improved since the "new" management team came on park. My observations: -B:TR had a line almost out to the entrance. Wasn't going to bother waiting to find out if they didn't open up switchbacks, but the line stretching out that far was enough to scare us away. -The Skytower Museum already feels like it needs some TLC. The GASM model is just sitting on a wooden box, not bolted down or anything...a little kid nearly knocked it over. The "plaques" are still laminated pieces of paper, and I noticed a few pieces of concept art are showing wear and tear. -Johnny Rockets just doesn't work at SFMM. Great food...that takes way too long to get ready. They had all the windows open and a TON of kitchen staff, plus I saw the supervisor and manager helping wherever they could, but it still took about a 1/2 hour to get to the window to order with only 4 people in front of us. -No new work on Terminator. -The signs on the ticket booth officially say what we have already discussed about the Xtreme Pass: discounted Q-bot+same benefits as last year. No way I am renewing. -They are advertising a new 2 park season pass for $90.00. I might get that instead.

  22. ^Interestingly enough...I sat in the courtside seats right behind the Hornets bench the other night when they played the Clippers, and I have to say that I totally agree with Bill Simmons. CP3 always came back to the bench complaining about something. Listening to the conversations going on, it sure sounded like the team wasn't very interested in the game either.
  23. ^Why do you assume that kids born in the 90's have no idea about Thundercats? It's been airing on Cartoon Network for ages. Kids growing up in the 90's probably know it from religiously watching cartoon network like I did. I remember it being a lead in to Swat Kats.
  24. Great TR! I'm not really a fan of the NFL, but I do love visiting sports venues, so I appreciate those photos!
