  1. And to that extent, I posted about why I don't think that is as big deal as it is being made out to be. But hey, look on the bright side...this project isn't being funded by the Yakuza. Or is it? That's what we should be talking about. Afterall, OLC has been paying Disney for their services/license. Maybe they used the tainted money from OLC to fund the DCA revamp?
  2. ^Technically they are giving away free admission with the 2fer option for So Cal residents (which is what that commercial Robb mentioned is about).
  3. ^And all I am trying to say is "so what?." I'm not trying to defend the park, or even claim it doesn't look ugly. I'm just saying why I don't think it's as big a deal. I was also responding more to your implication that guests will be disappointed because the park doesn't look like it did in that screen grab.
  4. ^I think you actually helped prove both our points. CA Adventure does absolutely lose some of what little "vibe" it had to begin with by having all the construction going on. And it's definitely ugly. But is that going to "kill" the Disney "show" for them? No way. They are still going to enjoy all the rides, characters, and so on.
  5. ^Even if you went to DCA with no construction walls, you would be disappointed if you were looking for "magical atmosphere, theming, experience, etc". I've always seen DCA as nothing more than a collection of Disney rides that happen to be in a park that looks OK but lacks immersion.
  6. I'm not sure how many times I can say that there is no denying that particular part of the show looks like crap. But there's still the rest of the park (and even all the rides of Paradise Pier except for the Sun Wheel), so I think many of the guests are still going to walk away thinking they still got a Disney Experience. That's all I am saying. Does anyone really believe that GR is getting flooded by complaints that the show is horrible because all the construction walls are up? Or that they were misled by that one shot in the commercial? And really, what's wrong with not caring about the walls? It does look like crap, but if that doesn't detract from someones day at the park, are they wrong for just not caring about them and still having a good time at the park?
  7. I don't think anybody here is saying things look just fine. It looks like a construction site. Which is obviously not the best "show" from a presentation standpoint. BUT.... Some people just don't think of it as such a big deal. I never really thought of DCA as an immersive theme park to begin with, so I personally don't care at all since none of the construction has any affect on my day at the park. So DCA still provides the "show" that *I* am looking for. I also don't think I am alone in that sentiment at all. There might be a lot of "dumb" guests out there, but at the end of the day most guests won't really care how a place looks so long as the rides were open, the service was good, and they had a good time. They'll still think they got the Disney experience, so I think it is fair to say DCA still puts on a good "show" despite the walls. But again, everyones perception of "show" is different. So there really is no right or wrong answer. That's the ultimate point I am trying to make. There definitely will be guests put off by the walls. There will also definitely be guests who don't care. There will also be passholders who think the walls are great since DCA should have been built right from the start. And probably another 10,000 opinions on it. And none of them are wrong!
  8. I think you are underestimating the "local" market of Disneyland (which, if that is the 2fer commercial, is who it is targeted to). They might not know the construction is so massive, but I bet many of the GP that ad is focused on are at least aware DCA is getting new attractions. But again, all that goes back to what I was saying earlier: the perception of a good show is different to everyone. There probably is a portion of DCA guests who will be disappointed the park featured in the commercial is full of construction walls. But there will also be a portion of the guests who will still think they got a "good show" because everything besides the Sun Wheel is still open and they had a good time. There's probably also a portion of guests who think the walls themselves are good show because they are happy DCA is improving. So there's really no right or wrong answer when it comes to this discussion IMO.
  9. ^^I heard Sam Cassell is looking to sign a deal to play for a team owned by the Yakuza!!!
  10. Personally, I think it really boils down to what people are expecting from their visit to DCA. "Bad show" is all in the eye of the beholder, so no one is really wrong. Some guests may appreciate the fact that DCA is on the way to being much improved, some guests may only care about the rides, and some guests will think it is bad show. No one is right or wrong because they all have different expectations of what the show is.
  11. It's not *just* the old owners under a new name. It's 5 people. 3 of them are new, 2 of them are the old owners. --Robb I wonder where they got the money to be part of this new investment group....
  12. So this investment group consists of some of the old owners? Can you say scam?
  13. I'm not really sure what money there is left to be made. They are just ever so slightly late to the "Disneyana" party. It's going to have to be a really strong product.
  14. I think you're probably right. For one thing, I highly doubt the NASCAR cafe suddenly becomes the place to be on the strip just because the race in town. For another thing, they would have to sell a lot of rides on the coaster to make it worthwhile JUST for that weekend! My guess is they probably just figured "why not?" since their redevelopment plan for the property is on hold. Might as well get some revenue from the ride instead of having it be an eye-sore on your strip front property.
  15. ...Or they close the park down early when they aren't hitting their numbers.
  16. ^I was about to say... Why would anyone willingly go that far down the strip?
  17. It's like Michael Eisner never left. Sounds like the accountants will be in charge again.
  18. ^Gee, I wonder why? Perhaps because people don't want generic crap?
  19. Oh boy. More destruction of the brand as WDW/DLR will inevitably try to standardize as much as possible. It's good that they will be trimming the fat and getting rid of the bloated management structures, but no good can come from having a central planning team aside from cost savings. That's how Eisner ran the parks...
  20. Does anyone know more about the finances of the new owners? They may have come up with the $25 to buy the park, but does anyone know if they have the remaining millions of dollars it will take just to get the park open? And operate it for a full season?
  21. ^I'm sure it wasn't nearly as busy as a typical holiday weekend due to the weather...
  22. I wonder how poorly written his business plan was?
  23. ^It's the rides. It's random personal crap. I don't even think the rides are anywhere close to working order anymore, since they haven't been touched since 2005 (or whenever it was he had to release all his staff).
  24. ^The courtyard/courthouse (and New England Street to the left) actually survived this fire aside from minor smoke/fire damage. This fire marks the 3rd fire that the Courthouse has actually survived! The Courthouse itself was the only thing in courthouse square that survived the fire Robert Zemeckis was talking about in 1990. Another fire in 1997 took out New England Street, but spared Courthouse Square. Here's the new blurb from Amusement Today:
  25. That much I can agree with with!! Congrats on getting this off the ground! That water play structure looks awesome!
