What is it about Idora park that gets me so obsessed? There are so many defunct parks, but something about Idora interests me sooooo much! I wanna buy one of the old Wildcat cars, but what am I gonna do with it?

Although I've never been to Mardi Gras, I have been to several Karnavals here in Germany, and you're right: Oktoberfest is the same kind of atmoshpere... just with crazy rides and people in lederhosen and dierndls.

So, it's like only 4pm and there are people passing out and puking everywhere already. LIGHTWEIGHTS! And this is how the night ended for me. At least I made it to the train, (unlike some other PTR posters we've seen). teetle. I managed to be one of the first to go, and lost my shoe in the process. I was not really in much of a competetive spirit after leaving the tent. We left the tent after about 4 biers and went back to the Devil's Wheel. Um, ja, this is the urinal for one tent. He was OK, though. I think Oktoberfest Bier gives you super powers. Checkout the man on the right hand side. He's got a "Hey daddy!" look on his face, don't he? Can you spot the guy in this pic who was trying to jump over the railing? More tent madness. then make this face. You drink it like this... Obstler. It's like Pear Schnapps with 40% alc. Action shot. Notice the size of the bier compared to the size of my head. Hier I am buying our first two liters of bier from a 6 foot tall waitress. Looks like someone had a few too many french fries with mayo. This security guard was all like "you want me to hold your hair back for you?" Derek???

Hey all! This past Monday, I was also at Oktoberfest in Munich. IT was crizzAAAAAAAAAAzy! I'm in the process of editing all my footage together to a fun video, (including partial POVs of Olympia Looping, Starworld, some crazy Haunted Hause, and the worlds biggest urinal). To give you an idea, here are some screenshots... We stayed away from the Nymphoburg tent, seeing as we're both in faithful long term relationships. or the BREASTZSZ? This was an animated sign on a chicken and duck stand. Do you like the leg, wing,... Hippodrom Tent. Isn't it pretty? And this is the not so famous Hoffreu Haus walkthrough. Speaking of bier tents, hier is the famous Hofbrau Haus Tent. This is the "Devil's Wheel". We came back to do this after our bier tent experience.... This is SOOOO RCT. A closer shot of the one short oustide part of the ride directly after the first lift. This is me gettin' my Robot on in front of Starworld. That's what happens, I guess. Ahh, yes, the Olympia fricken Looping. I love this ride. Eurostar in the distance. We didn't ride it this time, though. There's better ways to get a headache than spending 6 euros for that. Notice that there is NO fence stopping people from entering this ride while it's moving! Try that in the USA... Hier are some chicks in Dierndl's. I think it isn't fair that the one on the right is covering her cleavage. Teetle. This is what time I got up to get the train to the plane that took me to Munich. Ja, that would be AM.

... and exagerates about the height and length of several rides. lol. Anyways, there is some AWESOME old footage of the park and almost a complete POV of the Wildcat. I visited this park as it was still standing in the late 90's and it was quite eery. It's really too bad this cool traditional park had to close while others survived. Somehow, I've become re-obsessed with the Wildcat. Does anyone know any other links to video footage of this park/coaster?

Derek, that is NOT the Rhein River!!! That is the Main River, (pronounced mine). The Rhein does not flow through Frankfurt. Look at a map. Interesting German fact. Because Frankfurt has the tallest building in Germany, (that "funny skyscraper"), German's have nicknamed the city "Main-hattan", (cuz of the MAIN river, which runs through the city.)

Yah, there sure seems to be a lot of people whining about this ride! I just don't get it!?!? We should all be rejoicing, (especially Minnesotans), that another wooden coaster is being built no matter what, not to mention it's from GCI. There is absolutely no reason to whine!!! Here are some of the other possibilities which WOULD have been whine-worthy: For Immediate Release: Valleyfair! to get Son Of Beast clone for 2007 season. OR Announcement: Upper Midwests largest themepark to save the long time SBNO Flashback from SFMM! OR This just in! Valleyfair to add world record SECOND Arrow Wild Mouse to coaster collection in 2007! Those would all be reasons to whine, but NOT for a new GCI woodie. Anyone else feel me on this one???

I was thinking the same thing! I'm really interested to see how they're fitting this into the park and if it "interacts" with any of the other rides out back there. If it just goes out towards the river and back, can you imagine how awesome it will be to ride this at night? Great!

I'm not sure if I should be ashamed of this, but when I was looking through the pics really quickly, I honestly thought that the sign said "NEGROpolis"! I was like "wow, I'm not sure which market they're trying to reach with that..."

You guyzsz PTR is hillHARRYass! I thouroughly enjoyed reading all the Haiku poems and appreciate the creativity involved. I also can't beleive that Lake Compounce did that to you! Talk about bad business practices. That's just not right. I've been rained out of parks twice, (Elitch's and Miribilandia), but they TOLD me they would be closed when I called in the morning. I guess someone way up on the management chain decides that they will save more money just sending all the employees home for the day than opening the park for the few hundred people that show up during the crappy weather. Soooo frustrating.

^ Geez, James! Please remember that 10 years ago, the internet was not what it is nowadays. You couldn't sign on to TPR, make an entry in the forum, and have it be read by thousands of people around the world. What could someone do that had seen the plans? Call the news and say "I saw plans for a new coaster at Valleyfair"? There were not digital cameras or camera phones to take secret pictures with to spread around the world. What I'm trying to say is the "rules" for keeping secrets and how the "rumor mill" itself operated were different 10 years ago than they are today, (and I honestly don't remember the announcement of Wild Thing being such a secretive thing). So, it shouldn't seem so unbelievable that a plan for Wild Thing was hanging on the wall in an office at Valleyfair before it was announced to the public. I hope you understand my point and I will try not to take offense to your basically calling me a liar.

Steel, I have to disagree with you there. When I worked at Valleyfair for a few weeks during the end of Summer '95, the plans for Wild Thing were hanging up in the office long before the project was made official to the public. It may be that some ride operators aren't INTERESTED, but that doesn't mean that they don't occaisionally have access to info that the general public does not.

I was scared to death riding X at 6FMM because I was worried I was going to have brain damage and whiplash when I got off the ride. It was so horribly rough and I vowed never to waste 3 hours waiting in line for that crappy ride again.

I have to say I was disappointed this video didn't have one single POV in it. The footage of Batman was terrible, and that scene where he was talking to the goat just got so long and boring. Also, who wants to see yet another picture of the sub lagoon under construction? But, it is nice to see that they're finally painting the back side of Everest to look like a mountain.

When we stayed there, we called and the hotel itself and asked if they had any special offers. I don't remember what we paid, but they gave us a big discount from the online rates because they were kind of empty at the time. Give them a call and ask! Otherwise, take a look at expedia.com and then compare the hotels you find with the reviews at tripadvisor.com. That's how I always plan a trip. I hope you find something and have a great time!

I would recommend the Magic Castle Hotel. Every room is like a little apartment with kitchen and dining area. We went grocery shopping the first day and filled up the fridge, that we we could really save money on eating out. Another fantastic benefit is you get entry into the semi-private Magic Castle Club next door, which is an old mansion converted into a restaraunt and magic theater. You go and have dinner, (somewhat expensive), and then you can spend the whole night watching some of the best magic and slight of hand artists in the world! There are many small theaters and tables where there are magicians just waiting to impress you with their skills. I loved it.

I totally forgot that Spacewarps came with that spiral lift system! I think mine never worked so I just trashed it. I still got many years of enjoyment out of the rest of the kit, though.
