  1. Hello everyone! This is my first post here and yes the drinking age is 18 in Finland. Anyway I've had 62 different beers so far (not counting some tasted at parties etc.) My biggest favourites so far are: Grimbergen Blonde, Kapuziner Hefe-Weizen, Shepherd Neame's Late Red, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Weihenstephaner Hefe. I'll try to make reports of beers that you necessarily don't have in the States to hopefully make it a bit more interesting for you. Here are some pics of beer from last October ->. Enjoyed this one. Nice hoppy start, then a nice rush of flowers, fruits, a hint of sweet almond. Pleasant bitter finish. This one got into my top10. Thanks for reading, I'll get back with more beer pics after I return from Bratislava (Slovakia) after about 10 days. Kukko Pils vahva 5.5% btw. Kukko means cock as in rooster. It was quite decent, balanced, but a bit too bitter for me, it really didn't taste much, but was a well-made beer, still nothing to write home about. Baron Trenck, a Czech pilsner 6.0% Quite boring, it felt a bit watered down, it needed to be more hoppy. It had very small hints of rye and redcurrants, but really it was quite bad. Koff Jouluolut- A dark Christmas lager 4.6% It's gone. It was a very well balanced and smooth lager, it didn't have any special flavours, I expected a bit more, but still it was pretty good. Zeunert's 3.5% This one had won Silver in San Francisco beer contest in 2004. (Same contest that there's a symbol on one of the Rugged One's bottle further up this page). Nice one, quite like the last one, but with a more lighter taste, also this is a lager instead of ale. An All right "summer beer", worth giving a shot. 1836 Classic White lager. 4.5% Quite nice. Like a musty stronger lager, but then with some small tones of flowers, fruits and light caramel with a nice finish. I would've hoped this to taste a bit more, it wasn't really worth 3.5€. Jennings Cocker Hoop Golden Ale, 4.6%. Hmm... nothing wrong here, well balanced lager, didn't really taste much, Nice sort of hoppy bite, with a smooth bitterness in the end. Well worth the price (although they don't sell it anymore). I bought this as it was only 99cents and I had read somewhere that it should be pretty good. It was good. Quite a complex taste. First it was fruity then hoppy and bitter, then like a regular Czech pilsner, like Pilsner Urquell, with a hint of honey. It was a bit like Amstel beer mixed with Spitfire, if that helps. Bohemia Regent President, a Czech lager, 6.0% Ugh. It was absolutely terrible, it was sour, tasted mostly like cheap lemonade stayed too long open and then the bitterness of the ginger attacked. I really wonder how they can call this a beer. I almost spit this out, it was quite repulsive to drink, please don't try this. This is a strange lime, ginger-beer. 4.7% Interesting.
  2. I've really got nothing against vegetarians or vegans. What I dislike however is ie. some "vegetarians" at my (former) school who are mostly vegetarians because it's "trendy" and "so cool" (I don't know if it is?) because they think they are superior to meat eaters. Also I for some reason don't really like when I've seen quite a few times that some of them has been eating a Big Mac meal or so at McDonald's. I respect vegetarians and vegans for their principles in general and I think it's a good idea. It's also good that the numbers of vegetarian dishes/products at restaurants/grocery stores have increased. That should hopefully continue. I feel quite sorry for vegans in the way that I see it as a lot more difficult to find food or make various dishes that contain all necessary, fats, carbs, proteins, vitamins, minerals etc. Then there are of course some subgroups of vegans, as here in Finland one is called Fennovegans they only eat Finnish vegan food, which can be hard to find in the winter as for fruits and some vegetables, are not produced here then, or only a little amount (in greenhouses) because of the climate. Personally I doubt could be a vegetarian as I love meat too much, there are lots of good veggies and fruits I enjoy, however not as many solely vegetarian dishes, so that I could eat as varied things I do now. As of now, I really don't want to make my life (a bit) more complicated either.
  3. 1.4€ for a litre, so... 8.40611$ for a gallon...
  4. All of the videos were really good, better than I could do and I liked the music of all of them. Barry's is my favourite, it just had a nice blend of rides and people and some nice editing bits to music and it flowed through well. et.c. Darren's is also great, it was very very close to being my favourite, I like this so much because of the same reasons as for Barrys video, but then there were also more fun-spots. Dave's video is really funny and had some nice coaster shots, however what kept it from ranking higher, is that it was a bit too 'structured', cut to sections, with the headlines, which a bit stopped the otherwise good pacing. Kevin's video's beginning was cool, had some nice atmosphere, but it was too long, I'm sorry, but at one point I started to get a bit bored. Later, I liked that the video 'speeded up' and a new song started and there was many nice coaster shots, this video was a good coaster video no doubt about that, but this being TPR, I missed to see some fun, random things et.c. Pam and Brian's video was nice and showed people having fun together, it had a nice feeling to it, there could've been some more footage of rides and the editing could've been a bit better (compared to the other entries). Still it was pleasant. Thanks for the entries! I really look forward to more quality videos, good job everyone !
  5. Wow, that's quite cool, however I wouldn't ride that, but if I understood something from the article they have a weigh-in, so if you're between 35 to 100kg (77lb-220lb) you can ride??
  6. I've always liked amusement/theme parks, however until I was 14 I used to be quite a coward, I only rode 'mild rides' et.c. However after I saw Beverly Hills Cop 3 I wanted to find out more about the park in the movie and then I did some research which led me here and there, and meanwhile I saw huge coasters I never heard of/seen before and I started to get interested, and collected more and more knowledge and also started to play RCT2. Gradually, after I was 15, I overcame my fear of inversions and 'very big and fast' coasters. There you go.
  7. Great TR so far Tom! It's always nice to see some smaller more unknown (ok, honestly that park was totally unknown to me) parks. Really shame about the birds excrements, man, the birds must've been quite humongous when you look at the size of some the droppings. Yay, for Terminator (1) the ride, Now where's Terminator 3-the ride and dare I say... Sarah Connor Chronicles ?-the ride Cool, Travelodge's got a new design/font from what I saw 2.5 years back, hehe. It's nice to see that you can "already" visit parks, I have yet to wait about a month, anyway looking forward for more pics!
  8. That was nice, I look forward to see more pictures and yeah, Bakken is quite a nice park, their woodie is better than the replica at Linnanmäki. btw. Do I see 'snus' under Jorges lipp, lol (btw. it's illegal in Finland, except if you buy it from the ferry to Sweden or from Sweden and bring it home).
  9. That was really nice, thanks for the TR! It was cool to see Memphis (I got that song stuck in my head), marching ducks on a red carpet, lol and always appreciated food photos . I know this has been said million times, it just seems like it was long time ago since Elvis lived (to me), yet if he is /would be alive, he could still probably perform (if he had better health) at only 72 years. Anyhow, thanks for the photos and info. I love these kinds of "random" TR's!
  10. Abandoned amusement parks are cool, there's generally something quite compelling and fascinating about them (as well as some abandoned houses and buildings imo). It would be nice to see more of them as I haven't really seen any 'proper' ones live, hopefully I'll find one in Slovakia, in about a month.
  11. Saw Armin van Buuren at Studio 51 (it's a club, named after Studio 54) 16.2.08 in Helsinki. The gig was great, I had new fantastic special earplugs, which made everything sound crystal clear, although of course a bit more silent. He played lots of progressive material, much less melodic stuff, only very few own songs, incl. Communication pt.3 and Burned with Desire, which a bit of shame, luckily I liked most of the music still. The atmosphere was pretty good and he handled the audience well and seemed to be on a good mood, smiled all the time (2hrs 30mins). Only let-downs were some people pushing through, walking back and forth in the beginning, which was really disturbing as you "had to" move away all the time, in the crowded space and people who had to take their drinks and drop them on the floor, leaving quite much, glass splinters, not nice. It was much worse than when I saw Tiësto at the same venue, about two months earlier, overall it was, quite so awesome. Next gig, hmm... maybe Judas Priest (again) in early June. Shall see
  12. Happy Birchday!, oops. Happy Birthday! or Hyvää Syntymäpäivää! Hope you all have fun and are well and enjoy the day!
  13. Got this in the end of January, (as the 4 years old one, got broken. People couldn't hear what I was speaking although I heard them, lol). It was only 130€, has a mp3 player, internet and 2mb camera just in case, I would need to take a photo, however the camera isn't good really, but it's still a phone, and good enough for me.
  14. Only sure ones so far are, Linnamäki and Wiener Prater. I'll obviously try to squeeze in something else as well.
  15. Thanks for TR. That looks just like I'd imagine a classical small American well-kept amusement park, I really like the look of it, also with the beach nearby. Cool.
  16. That was great! Out of the whole Hearst estate, I've only seen the Grecian outside pool before, so it was definately cool to see more. Not forgetting the extra spice of you having a bit fun in there, as sometimes on some of those historic building/museum etc. tours, you just need to do that, if the guide sucks or you are to overwhelmed with what you see, you might get really crazy for sometime, so then you have to act a bit crazy (in a good way) to balance it out. That probably didn't make much sense, oh well The Sunset pics were nice and made me miss to see the sea and feeling the summer warmth! Anyway, Thanks! There really needs to be more random TR's like this!
  17. Happy Birthday Robb! Hope you have lots of fun and enjoy the day!
  18. Lovin' this TR. Awesome. Great stories, pics and most of all, memories I totally understand why you feel like you've taken too few photos at some parks, as I get/got that same problem, it just easily goes that way, when you have fun and explore new places and enjoy it. I am a bit late but...I'll agree that the Madrid subway system kicks a$$, used it a lot before the trip and also after, have no complaints whatsoever. Also I can't believe how red or tanned I look in one goodbye-photo, lol. The boat-jump ride at Klotten looks so fun. As well as the rest of the mini-europe trip. btw. does any Swedes (or anyone else) know if Kneippbyn still has a ride like that?, as I vaguely remember I've been on something like that there in 2001. Are dippin dots quite like Calippo shots, icey 'pearls'? Anyway, looking forward for the Chicago and further photos and text, it's really nice to see some non-park photos as well and pictures of food mmm...
  19. ^Estonia is still quite cheap, but it's getting more expensive, as the country develops and gets more and more western all the time, currently it's (or at least the Tallinn (capital) region) is already, really modern and much nicer than I think any country east of Czech Republic in Europe (excluding Greece). Anyway, I think that you could settle for about any western European country and still manage it, once you get a job and rent a small flat or so, of course it isn't just that easy, but I doubt it's really as hard as it seems here. but yeah good luck with the planning etc.
  20. ^lol. I do also hope that Bouncy-Bouncy and the whole park Parque d' Attracciones Zaragoza will still continue to be open, even though this huge theme-land is landing nearby. It seems that after the world exhibition (aka EXPO) in Zaragoza next year, they'll (try to) turn Zaragoza in the middle of a desert to an entertainment city, interesting. The spy-concept seems also interesting, and definately fresh but somehow also slightly, er... stupid IMHO, BUT will see how it turns out. At least they've got hundreds of windmills right nearby (if Spain trip people remember) to turn into rides (when windy), by just installing some restraints
  21. Great job so far Robb! yeah, the first pounds are always easier to drop, then it's getting a bit tougher, maybe if you want to keep up with the 'schedule' then a bit more work-out would be good, but anyway, you're doing really well, I really doubt I could cope with that little food and I really hope you can finish/beat the challenge!
