  1. (I don't know how Astroworld did it so I can't comment on that) Maybe it could be possible, but the only part of the park that is against the road is Ride of Steel, so guests would have to walk the length of the coaster, without much else there to entertain them or draw them in, then head over a bridge. I don't feel like that sort of expansion is in the plans unless Western NY becomes a booming metropolis or a bigger tourist destination. Darien Lake doesn't have the sort of crowd draw to justify an giant expansion. If the park did want to do a big expansion they would likely have to do it by moving the camping further north and moving the park into that section. I don't have any clue how much of the land there they own and I doubt they really care to do anything like that for a long time.
  2. Without removing something else I think that is about it. The only other way they could "expand" (and this will NEVER happen because I don't even know if it could be done and it would be stupid to do anyway) would be to fill in Fun Lake. That will not happen and I don't even know if it could... I just wanted to list an insane idea that would in theory allow for a park expansion. This however is a stupid idea and will not happen (have I made that clear enough?) If you are looking at realistic places for the park to add a new ride look to the go carts area, former Cuda Falls area or the big building by Viper where they had a haunted house this year.
  3. I think people just excited for changes in the park.
  4. I'll be a bit lighter on the parks I get to this year. Waldameer, Darien Lake, and maybe Kennywood is probably about it. If I get sent to Atlanta for work I'll probably head to SFOG also. I've got a one month old at home and that will minimize park opportunities for the year (That sounded like a complaint, but it's not. My children are great, but need a little more time before I take them to amusement parks)
  5. I only got one ride on Thunderhead (it was in March 2018) and the first half was fine, the second half was pretty rough (at least in the seat that I was in). It seemed like it could use some love and retracking in some of the areas, but it also was a cool ride.
  6. I can understand people desiring information in the offseason, but let's be honest, the park is in Western New York and probably has had little to nothing done that isn't necessary to this point (renaming a coaster and painting track is not necessary). Maybe May will come and visitors can be pleasantly surprised by updates made my Six Flags, but in reality not much is going to visibly change other than a few food vendor changes and the Sky Screamer will not be up until around Memorial Day (as is the Six Flags way). It's February, how about we relax. The park season is months away and the park probably needs better weather to do any improvements that we would really notice (if they do any at all).
  7. I actually didn't know the timeline for the development of the timberlines. I love Ravine Flyer as it is so I have no issue at all with the PTC trains. It was just a curiosity that now has an answer (timberliner trains being in development when the coaster was put in).
  8. The old little hot tub is always packed, it will be nice to see the upgrade (even though I stay out of public hot tubs and their human soup) The most exciting thing on this list is the expansion of the lazy river, it has always been one of my favorite parts of Water World. I think there are "plans" for a new coaster but nothing is concrete enough to announce to the public. They have said they would like to add another one eventually, but the issue in the park will always be space, they will have to build on their property heading down toward the lake. They have been working on really improving the water park a lot in the past few years and it is worlds better than it was a decade ago. My biggest question with Waldameer, over the past few years, has been why Ravine Flyer II uses PTC trains and not Timberliners. Either way I'm glad to hear they are continuing to expand, they didn't expand very quickly when I was a kid.
  9. I don't think I even realized how faded it was till I saw the fresh paint
  10. I'm personally ok with this. Everyone calls Ride of Steel Superman anyway. Personally I prefer parks having their own IPs and not plastering DC or Looney Tunes everywhere. (In reality I don't really care either way, make fun things, I don't really care too much what they're named)
  11. Crazy people on the Darien Lake instagram very sad in the comments about the demise of Twister thinking that Viper should be renamed to Batman (for some reason).
  12. This thing is such a tangled mess of steel. It looks great.
  13. 1. Name 3 of your favorite roller coasters, but not your top 3. Loch Ness Monster Ravine Flyer II Talon 2. About how many different parks did you visit in 2018? 4 3. Which 2018 park visit was your favorite? Dollywood 4. Your favorite 2018 park addition (ride, food, show, etc)? Steel Vengeance 5. What ride exceeded your expectations the most in 2018? Tennessee Tornado 6. Best meal/food at a park in 2018? I missed out on cinnamon bread at Dollywood sadly. I didn’t even try to get food at any other park 7. What was your favorite new coaster of 2018 NOT made by RMC or Larson? Tantrum (only new one I rode that fits the requirements) 8. Name one park you will definitely visit in 2019. Waldameer 9. Best ride themed to a bird? Talon 10. Lamest ride/coaster you rode in 2018? Blazing Fury 11. What roller coaster currently sits at the top of your bucketlist? (degree of difficulty: NOT a new-for-2019 ride) Expedition G-Force 12. What new-for-2019 ride or coaster are you most looking forward to? Copperhead Strike 13. Name the first totally middle-of-the-road (not bad/not great) park that comes to mind. Darien Lake 14. You're in Orlando and magically have a 1-hour ERT session on 1 coaster of your choice at any park in the city. You choose... Mako 15. Holiday In The Park vs. Winterfest. Who reigns supreme? Holiday in the Park 16. Mystic Timbers mystery shed or Wicker Man fire infusion? As much as I love mystery sheds give me the fire 17. Which Six Flags have you been to most recently? Since Darien Lake wasn’t technically a Six Flags last year Geagua Lake was the last Six Flags I’d visited 18. Intamin or Schwarzkopf? You may only choose one. Intamin 19. Battle of Kings Coasters: Island or Dominion? Pick one. Kings Dominon 20. What was the longest you waited for a ride/coaster in 2018? Mystery Mine or Maverick (Steel Vengance had a super short line because it had been broken down) 21. What roller coaster have you ridden more than any other? Comet at Waldameer probably 22. Best drop tower under 150 feet? X-Scream 23. Maverick or Millennium Force? (If you haven't been to CP, pick what you want to ride more) I’ve had more fun on Maverick lately 24. Log flumes or sky rides? You can only choose one. Log flumes for me, sky rides for my wife. I like both though. 25. What are 3 things you enjoying doing at your home park other than riding rides? Parking for free, people watching, and watching people poorly do karaoke (Waldameeer) 26. What is your second favorite Cedar Fair park and why? Dorney. I haven’t been to any other Cedar Far parks other than Dorney and Cedar point in the past decade or so I really can’t fairly compare. 27. What is your home park and give us two good reasons why we should pay it a visit. Waldameer – Ravine Flyer II is great and you’re right on Lake Erie, go for a drive on Presque Isle after or before visiting the park. 28. Launch or Lift? Lift 29. Did you buy fast pass at all in 2018? No, but if I did I would have enjoyed Cedar Point a lot more 30. What is your least favorite wooden coaster? Thunderhawk at Dorney was unpleasant the last time I rode it 31. Disney fanboys: cool or cult? Practically cult 32. Best Batman themed ride? Batman: Night Flight (Now Dominator) 33. Name something that tend to take home from parks that you didn't bring with you. Shot glasses (or sunburn) 34. Best wooden coaster over 110 feet tall? Lightning Rod 35. Have you ever been hit with something (loose change/a tree/vomit/etc) while riding something? Nope 36. Skywarps: credits or no? State your case. No, it’s constantly attached to a motor so there is no “coasting” to make it a Roller “coaster”. If anyone wants to count it as such that’s fine too. 37. Turkey legs: nah or yaaaaassssss? Nah 38. What is the most recent B&M that you rode? Gatekeeper 39. You can eat nothing but corn dogs, churros or funnel cake for the next 48 hours, which do you choose? Probably Churros 40. Post a great on-ride shot of you from 2018. (DO IT!) Alas… I have none
  14. My favorite part of the Six Flags transformation commercial is the "Don't miss the once in a lifetime magic as Darien Lake Transforms into Six Flags Darien Lake" as this happens for the second time in my lifetime.
  15. ... or just cut those positions entirely and keep churning out food at the same glacial pace that they do now. My money is on that option. I would agree with this completely.
  16. The coaster looks great so far.
  17. I know it was completely expected by all, but there is the name change for 2019 that it seems like many were waiting for They've been added to the map on the six flags website too. However the Darien Lake site isn't updated yet, probably soon though. Getting closer. Probably some time in 2019 I'd imagine. No rush at the moment as there probably aren't many people who aren't on this site who are thinking about amusement parks in New York at this time of year
  18. I know it was completely expected by all, but there is the name change for 2019 that it seems like many were waiting for
  19. Next step for Six flags parks, all super loops should have a Skywarp going through the center. I don't know how it would work and it would probably be stupid, but you might as well put the "coasters" together. (I really hope everyone knows I'm kidding about this, but it's the internet...)
  20. I get people wanting information because it's the offseason and some are starved for news. That being said: the offseason just began let's wait till early 2019 at least
  21. Mystery Mine was a little shaky for me but I didn't think it was nearly as bad as a lot of other people have experienced
  22. I have to be honest. I kind of love that Dorney is trolling those of us who pay this much attention. It shows that they recognize that enthusiasts are out there looking for any information they can gather. It also doesn't seem mean spirited to me at all.
  23. Definitely: Waldameer (home park, I can go get a lap on Ravine Flyer over my lunch break) Darien Lake (first time with the season pass) Maybe: Hersheypark (My sister lives in Harrisburg and gets free tickets from Bears games) Conneaut Lake Park Six Flags Georgia (Work sometimes sends us to Atlanta for training, so it would be kind of nice to hit up a second Six Flags park) It is going to be a lower park total for me this year as my wife and I are expecting a new baby in January. That makes park-going a bit harder.
  24. I'm very impressed with the google skills to figure out where this place is. Well done. I hope they are able to do something with it, I like feel good stories about neglected and damaged places.
