  1. Wow those are some great pictures! Seeing Gemini go up must have been pretty exciting and intimidating... wasn't it the tallest coaster in the world when it was built?
  2. Sorry to bring this back up but I just re-opened your thread and saw this response. I'm definitely not saying that TW is a good ride, but I definitely don't believe it flat out sucks. I've had some brutal rides with tons of jackhammering on it, but I always seem to get a nice amount of airtime too. Awesome? No. Has some fun moments? Yes. That's also why I said I respect your opinion though, because I haven't ridden it yet this season and I can definitely see why someone would hate it.
  3. Each person counts credits differently, though I believe a coaster is only a new credit if the layout is different. In the case of Chiller and SOB, there is only an element change, not a layout change. I believe layout changes are new credits (Steel Phantom to Phantom's Revenge), but element changes (SOB, Chiller, Texas Rattler) and theme changes (X2, Medusa, Superman) are not.
  4. Wow, I just kind of watched this because I was bored (I have seen the first too) and I wasn't expecting the amount of improvement that you guys made! Absolutely awesome I was COMPLETELY surprised!
  5. ^Wait, so you "LOOOVED" Boss but you didn't like TW? I think both Boss and TW are equally brutal, but are both extremely fun. I agree that Boss is better, but I've had some amazing rides on TW. I respect your opinion though.
  6. It sure does look like it flies over the second hill. That hill + lots of speed sounds like a winning combination for airtime to me! Can't wait to hear the reviews and ride it myself.
  7. Evel Knievel has at least that many before it hits any friction brakes as well. I'm pretty sure they're just doing the initial braking completely by magnetics and not putting in any friction brakes until the transfer track on the newer models. Considering GCIs don't have MCBRs and only run two trains, there's no reason to have the initial brake run be a block section. It requires way less moving parts and is fail-safe, not to mention very cost efficient.
  8. Its hard to see but there's another set of switchbacks that runs parallel to the lift after the initial shaded square switchback section. Though I do admit it still looks like a fairly small queue.
  9. Well I have been every time in the season and this guy is an imbecile. Ninja only has one loop, not three (two if you count the sidewinder and four inversions total, not sure how he ever got three). Freeze has zero loops (the fact that he is calling inversions loops just shows his GP-ness) and is NOTHING like a boomerang other than the fact that it's a shuttle loop. As a fairly neutral person, (I am two hours from both WOF and SFStL and like both Six Flags and Cedar Fair fairly equally, admittedly finding myself partial to CF from time to time) I can easily say that SFStL's beauty kicks WOF's butt! SFStL has amazing landscaping and location and is just as clean as WOF. Also, SFStL's new kiddie zone is WAY better than WOF's. I don't see how this man can POSSIBLY complain about SFStL's "basic midway attractions and carnival rides" and then say WOF is better. WOF's flat rides are way more "carnival" than anything at SFStL, and they have all of the same basic midway and carnival experiences and games. I love SFStL (and WOF too, don't get me wrong), but this guy is ridiculous.
  10. The back gives good airtime but it will be the CRAP out of you. The front provides a smooth ride that still holds a great amount of air.
  11. 1. First of all, the weather is supposed to be beautiful on Saturday, so should I expect large crowds? (I only ask this because it is so early in the season...) I always try to avoid the park on saturdays, and the only time I've been this early in the season was on a school trip and the park was intensely crowded... If the schools show up, the park will be very crowded. 2. What order should I ride certain attractions to avoid lines? (If I have to wait in lines, I want it to be something worth waiting for.) I'm thinking of heading to THBS first, and then Evil Knievel...not sure, though. Go for Freeze first, then THBS, S:TOP, and Boss. I've never had a problem with large lines on EK except for on it's opening day. Batman gets large lines early because its in the front but it clears out in the afternoon. 3. In '98, Eagle became my first 'big' coaster, and I LOVED it! How is it running this year (for all of you who visited the park last weekend)? I haven't been yet this year, but the past couple years it's been running pretty tame with minimal airtime. 4. How expensive/convenient are lockers? I'm thinking of wearing a sweatshirt in the morning, and then dropping it off in a locker when it warms up. Can you pay for them with cash? I can't recall the exact price of a locker, but I remember them being fairly reasonable. I believe cash could be used to rent them. 5. How is food at the park? Is it good (enough) quality for the price? Turkey leg stand across from THBS is pretty much the only place worth buying food in the park. Otherwise you'll be getting average food at a horrible price. 6. Any tips for certain rides/coasters? (Best seat, way to ride, when to ride, ect.) Boss- If you like airtime and awesomeness, then ride the front. If you like taking a quick joy ride in the dryer when its full of rocks, then ride in the back. The very front seat is WELL worth the extra ten minutes you may have to wait. Freeze- Like Boss, Freeze is pretty amazing in the front, too. Ninja- Ride it in the very back seat for some surprising air on the first drop. Hold your head back firmly after the first loop (the sidewinder kicks) and after the corkscrews (that turn is far from butter) and you'll greatly enjoy the ride. Mine Ride- If you insist on riding then the back seat is the only seat that will provide you with any form of enjoyment. The rest of the rides are just general front/back rides, I never recommend sitting towards the middle on a coaster... blah. 7. Hotel suggestions? (Not wanting to pay too much for a day-trip...) Never have had to deal with this, but I'm sure they wont be too pricy. 8. Does the park have any hidden gems? The park itself is a very beautiful and well rounded park, easily one of the most underrated around. Take your time and enjoy the day.
  12. Patriot is another sanded ride and it is SILENT, Spinnging Dragons is louder than it! As far as loud rides go, Mr. Freeze is pretty loud. Mantis, B:TR, The Boss, and EK in the queue also come to mind.
  13. Doesn't a speed correction imply that in the end the ride will be going the same speed as it did at opening? Increased speed over time + increased brake application = same original speed... does it not? Unless of course you mean the brakes are being applied harder to a train traveling the same speed, not faster.
  14. ^Patriot is highly more attractive than Orient Express or any new show or "traditional element" will ever be. It's hard to argue their additions haven't added to the value of the park.
  15. Wow, Freeze's new paint job is STUNNING!
  16. Bad things Cedar Fair has done to WOF- -Removal of Zambezi Zinger (1997) -Shows and smaller rides removed along with other charming elements -Removal of Orient Express (2003... Though hard to consider a bad thing really) Good things Cedar Fair has done to WOF- -Detonator and Rip Cord added (1996) -Mamba added (1998) -Boomerang added (2000... not an amazing addition to us but the public sure does eat them up) -Thunderhawk added (2002) -Spinning Dragons added (2004) -Worlds of Fun Village added (2005) -Patriot added (2006) -Prowler added (2009) -New shows, shops, smaller rides, and other additions that added family elements and overall attraction value to the park While I don't agree with many of the changes CF made quickly after the inquisition of the park, its hardly possible to say they ruined it. The park may not be as charming as it once was, but people don't go there for the shows, they go for the rides. They've added five new coasters and removed two under-performing ones. They've done their part to get me to go there a few times over SFStL (which is the same distance), and that's what matters from a business standpoint.
  17. Kansas City has the largest population of any city in the state and WOF is closer to the city center than SFStL is to StL. With the new coasters that have been added in the past few years attendance has greatly improved. It seems like if CF can ride out the next year or two they will find WOF to be a worthwhile property.
  18. I have heard that Boulder Dash was greatly improved. As far as rides go that need it, The Boss is screaming for attention.
  19. Alright I decided to give tilt a try and I think some of them turned out alright. I now present to you, a model of STStL!
  20. I thought that's what I saw, that would explain the uncontrollable laughter from the crowd.
  21. Is that a bottle of Malibu I see in the background or am I just tripping balls? Or am I tripping balls because there ISN'T a bottle of Malibu in the background...? Oh god.
  22. That doesn't mean the "side effect" isn't useful.
  23. Okay, thanks. /Er...what, exactly, is the point of the splashdown then? Splashdowns aren't just for visual effect, they also act as a natural braking measure. I believe I read somewhere that the splashdown on SheiKra accounts for up to 30% of the braking on the ride.
