1. It's been 2 long years since my last Holiwood Nights, I'm so excited I can't sit still. I wonder if Holiday World will build their own hotel at some point? It would definitely be quality!
2. The soft-er green structure had me the first time I saw it. So nice to get something different! I just spoke to a coaster friend who lives out that way (in NJ, actually) and he explained they will load this ride with a new perk. They bring people up to the station in groups and let them see how the ride is loaded, what the train looks like... and to view the ride, or something along those lines. Sounds like a great way to make kids feel better if they are nervous about riding.
3. You meant the two most popular coasters... The best and rarest coaster at the park... well, to some of us
4. Forget both and go to Knoebels If you want to maximize your fun. (You will have fun at any of them, that was for those who love Knoebels.)
5. True, I think Cedar Point holds the crowds a little better. Not too many dead-ends. I seem to remember long, congested pathways to some of Great Adventure's most popular rides.
6. Don't forget to give Lisebergbanan some love as well, it's a great ride! (and a capacity monster) And... it was Anton Schwarzkopf's favorite coaster.
7. I always find decent mid-range hotels within a 15 minute drive of The Point... that classic Super 8 is particularly nice (for what it is). Speaking of hotels, isn't Great Adventure infamous for having no close accommodations?
8. I gotta agree with this... in fact, people I work with bring up Cedar Point all the time when talking to me "oh yeah, Cedar Point is THE BEST!" Well... it's excellent at many things, but my favorite parks and rides are elsewhere.
9. Excellent analogy. "Leave Home" is my favorite Ramones, filled with love and hyperness My only draws to Great Adventure would probably be the Sky Ride and Skull Mountain. That's going off my previous experiences at the park. I'd like to drop in if I'm around, but sure ain't going out of my way for it. Cedar Point, while is has no coasters I would personally go out of my way for (Magnum is still my favorite there)... the whole park is a great package. Fast moving lines, efficiency, user-friendly, lots of places to sit.. fast moving food lines, excellent variety of rides. And Top Thrill Dragster blows Kingda Ka out of the water; comfort, operation, location, etc.
10. For any SFOG locals/regulars - has Mind Bender been running both trains? I know it had some control issues with 2 trains (for some reason?) the past couple years. I'm thinking about heading down for a day before my way back up to Holiwood Nights. Ahh Mind Bender, still my favorite steel and inverting coaster
11. I'm super thrilled Magic Mountain is "fixing what they have." The park really deserves the attention... so much potential. Everything looks great!
12. The attention to care and detail Waldameer gives their rides and park always amazes me. Over the last few years this park has become one of my top favorites! Ravine Flyer 2 is a wild and awesome ride, but my favorite at the park is still Comet. With it's truly classic seating and beautiful curved station, all updated with (curved!) magnetic brakes to enable 2 train ops. The amount of fun I have at this place... night rides on the flume, the dark rides, the Spider, the charm. The awesome sky ride, the list goes on.
13. Flight Deck was the very worst SLC I've been on. It beat the hell out of me, never again. I was a rare "casual fan" of SLCs, as I've had a few enjoyable spins on some of the others in past years. Even the Volare/Time Warp next door ... I took for 2 spins to give it a fair shake, but Flight Deck was one and done. A notch in the "credit count." I believe Bat still has the Arrow (as someone else mentioned) train that (I think) was originally on Dragon Fire. The last time I rode Bat a couple years ago, it was actually a lot of fun! Very smooth for a boomerang. The coolest thing about Bat is the train undercarriage is completely painted red. Oh yeah, geek out... but what a nice detail. Related - Dragon Fire is not enjoyable to me; way too bangy. The last time I had Pizza Pizza was on the interstate getting ready to cross from Canada into Detroit. I had some sort of chicken BBQ slice. It was a huge mess, stacked up high. It was one of the best slices of pizza I have ever had, and I was raised in Chicago. Maybe it was a just a chance, a one-off... but it was damn good. One thing I remember about CW is the long lines for food; they really could use some big-capacity dining halls (hi Holiday World, xoxoxo). The place gets PACKED, but still a class act and wonderful park.
14. What exactly are those policies? Related - didn't Golden Horse have a long reputation for poor quality and safety rides? Has that changed? Please forgive me if I'm wrong on my information.
15. Dragon Mountain is GREAT... there may have a been a couple *punches to the head* when exiting the tunnels, if my memory serves me. Other than that, it's very smooth and truly one-of-a-kind. More ride-able than MOST Arrow coasters. When I was there it never had more than a 1-3 train wait, but that can turn in a while when they are only running one train on a mile long ride (hi, Hades). There was what looked like a perfectly fresh train in transfer they were not using. The park overall was beautiful but very deserted and as others have said, it's kind of sad in various ways. Deserted rides, begging bears... It reminded me of a HUGE version of Magic Mountain, but more deserted and with less rides (but cleaner!). Have fun!
16. Anyone know if Mind Bender is running one train, or both?
17. I'm thinking of heading down to the park directly before Holiwood Nights... I would probably do SFOG Tuesday/Wednesday, and take my time making it back up to Holiday World for HWN. Years ago I did this same trip, probably more than once, but can't remember how crowded SFOG is that week. Unfortunately they're only open until 7pm those days.. but I always seemed to get a great amount of rides and re-rides on my favorite (and the reason I would be going), Mind Bender. Have both trains been running?
18. Kudos to them for getting it open so quick. On a related note, I thought that final break run looked short.
19. ^Grona Lumd is my most wanted park!!! Back to Canada’s Wonderland... is the name Ziz still mentionable for the new coaster? Personally I think it’s a great name and fits in awesomely!
20. Oh, I'd LOVE for Wonderland to put in a coaster like that one on the right. Huge thrills in such a tight space! The blue Schwarzkopf on the left is what you want.
21. ^Interesting... and great view of Ninja (love!!!) and Tatsu. Kudos to them for getting Apocoloid open so soon after a valley. Impressive!
22. Am I missing how either of these two things relate to Cedar Point in any way? I figured it was distantly related to what we were talking about… CP and Steel Vengeance commercials on Chicago TV.
23. Even stranger... we’re having fire/dry wind warnings in Chicagoland with some brush fires tiday! On a coaster related note, the B&M flyer in Japan had a shutdown and it made the news here! Not really news... “Passengers stranded upside down” the news said. Oh boy...
24. Oh, the irony of this post!!! Silly indeed. Can’t believe I misspelled that.
25. I have seen Cedar Point commercials here in Chicago, but an actual Steel Vengeance commercial? Wow, kinda cool.
