  1. The only time that I rode it, they had to clean puke out of the car from the person riding before me, if that's any indication. It's kind of like a Tilt-A-Whirl on steroids. Ewww... sorry to hear that. I really like those old "Tempest" rides. It's very simple, and free spinning. So you can get almost no spin to crazy spin. I love the Witche's Stew theme, but man does it need a good in-depth rehab. That goes without saying, as most of Conneaut does. I hope they are able to do that some day. Those rides are awesome and would look much better in great shape. I'm thinking of the way Bay Beach in Green Bay takes care of their old/classic stuff: it all looks like brand new! With all the attention Conneaut has been getting, I can totally see all that happening.
  2. I don't know man. I rode El Toro twice today. It that air is a lie then I don't want to know the truth. El Toro definitely has strong air time, and is fun... I'm just a little more fond of the old stuff. Where you aren't stapled to a seat. Both good, just a preference. I usually refer to the more stapled stuff as "uplift forces," as the parks do. It's all fun at the end of the day.
  3. One ride on Blue Streak is worth it alone! Those water slides are something else... it's been years since I spent that much time on water slides. Old school, not computer generated. Basically, really good stuff you won't find at corporate parks.
  4. ^Somewhere between clay and baby poop. Hahaha! Immediately I thought of this gem:
  5. I'm able to have more fun at Conneaut Lake than at most large corporate parks. Very happy to see they are cleaning it up, and new people are in the fold. The Blue Streak is one of the last remaining coasters in the world where you can get true air time - the kind where your butt actually leaves the seat more than an inch. I've always seen the potential in Conneaut Lake, let's hope it gets there and ensures a bright future. With a little more TLC and people that care (and money!), it could be like a smaller version of Knoebels.
  6. Incredibly awesome yet super cheesy retro goodness. Note 4 trains in motion on Whizzer. Good stuff sprinkled throughout, watch at your discretion.
  7. Not a game for me, just a personal opinion (as I stated originally). It's not about CP being better (personally, I think some SF parks including Great America have better coasters, all-around), it's just my opinion that CF's operations (for everything) is MUCH better. Just an opinion. I totally respect and understand yours. I could see how it seems like a game... just as it seems strange to me when people accuse others of playing the "CP is better game," when that is not actually happening. The "CP is better game" does indeed happen quite a bit, but not in every discussion. Thank you for the explanation of fights occurring elsewhere. I wasn't aware they happened that much, and agree with you that people are going to be people no matter where they go. Remembering the awful time a friend and I had at KD in 2011. I thought I needed a security escort to our car! Bad times. (Related - my friends used to joke that CP was the "world's largest collection of mediocre rides in the world." Just a semi-joke, very subjective, etc. We all love CP too.)
  8. ^Haha! But seriously... I thought there was going to be an incident when I rode that awful thing. My eyeballs were ready to pop out! All the blood in my body was in my head, not fun. Never again. Not even worth taking a chance on that.
  9. It was just my observations and experiences working at both CF and SF parks and visiting them since the 80s. I'm glad you have had better visits at Six Flags parks than I have.
  10. ^Agreed, you get it. Six Flags has built a generally aggravating atmosphere over the years. From stupidly long entrance and exit walks to and from single rides, to all the stuff we generally talk about. Will Koch used to go on about how if you treat your guests with respect - including respecting their time - they will generally appreciate being there. Six Flags seems to do whatever they can to get the most people in the gate, simply. Very low training standards, etc. The ironic thing, personally, is that I think Great America is the best in the chain. I love my home park! But it has so many issues.
  11. ^Thanks you A giga would be cool... but a longer ride with more track would be better (than Valravn, anyway).
  12. ^Agreed. People who get into trouble come from anywhere, including the affluent "North Shore" of Chicagland (Northbrook, Glenview, etc.). I stick by my theory that the park (and SF as a whole) tends to cater to the more badass*/act-out types, and would benefit greatly by changing their game plan. *badass being used here as another term for "acting-out." Not true badasses
  13. What really kills me is Six Flags has to be aware they attract (market to) this crowd... the "acting out" crowd I call 'em. Situations like this have happened at so many of their parks. Time for a change of game plan on who you market to, perhaps? Start with a good stiff raise in the price of season passes. Also, having "season pass ride nights" where the capacity is so pathetically low - that can't help. Everyone is responsible for their own behavior, but Six Flags asks for it when cheap season passes, horrible operations, horrible food operations; poorly managed lines to everything: the parking lot, the metal detectors, the ticket center, the main gate, etc.. Add to that generally clueless employees who seem to have had no training at anything and have zero people skills (good people, but they have no role models/training), and it's a recipe for disaster. My words may not be perfect, perhaps someone can explain it better. I hate to constantly compare to the other big thrill park chain, Cedar Fair, but they don't have these problems at the same level as Six Flags does.
  14. I love the name Ziz The second Z can be backwards. Is it truly confirmed to be giga, or was that sarcasm?
  15. Looking and functioning great so far!
  16. Having not kept up on the forum, I'm curious if they have gotten around to running all 3 trains on SV? Is lengthening the brake run an option?
  17. It makes me remember the many times I went to events at (insert large, mid-to-low-quality theme park chain here) parks where ERT started late and was cut short for various reasons. I was riding what is probably my favorite steel coaster ever, Mind Bender, when the ride ops dispatched our train WAY too early. It was all wrong and very clear to me (having worked in parks, been riding for many years, etc.). The ride set up on the lift, as the other train wasn't far enough into the circuit. A 10 minute shut down, which conveniently was remedied about a minute before the planned end of ERT. None of the employees in the station said anything or would look at anyone. We still behaved like troopers and thanked them all after that last ride, surely with applause as is standard. Both really are nice! I took 12 "guests" with me to Holiwood Nights a couple years ago... parents/aunt/uncle/cousins, and we had 3 cabins split among us. Everyone loved it. We were able to be together as a family, and everyone got to do what they wanted; fire pit, outdoor cooking, etc. Everyone loved Holiday World as well, even though half the group doesn't do rides. The price was very reasonable for the fairly high quality cabins we were in. On a related note, I am eagerly awaiting the day Holiday World opens their own accommodations, that would be great! I have an inkling they would be both high quality and affordable.
  18. Ziz is a great name, love it! I'm remembering the uproar when the "Batman: The Ride" name was revealed in 1992. It seemed so silly at the time. Kind of still does.
  19. As per several other Holiwood Nights, the lightning passed (out of the 5 mile zone) and ERT resumed. They even extended it an extra 35 mins or so, past midnight. Every time I go to Holiday World, I leave with the same feeling I get at all my favorite parks (Knoebels, Seabreeze, Cedar Point, etc.) - that is the feeling of happiness, but I still wish I had more time at the park, and with friends.
  20. ^That's the one! Running better than ever. The park was going to demolish it in 2002 to make way for Superman, but plenty of locals and fans spoke up... how much Whizzer meant to them (to us!). The park got rid of a giant 7-looper Arrow coaster called Shockwave instead. Since, Whizzer has just gotten more and more popular. I was hoping Magic Mountain could spin the re-do of Revolution in such a way that might have the same effect, but they took the "short sighted" VR route. Ride ops were even out in front of the ride "apologizing" when the ride was running in "classic" mode when VR was down due to heat.
  21. Thank you... I kinda figured the occasional reader might appreciate that stuff. Also, the semi-loose wheel arrangement works in the favor of a smooth ride. Many of the newer spring-tight configurations transmit a bit of *shock* to the rider, being the wheels are so tight on the track. Have you been to Six Flags Great America to ride Whizzer? It's the best maintained of all the Schwarzkopf coasters (in Six Flags parks). The trains - including the seat padding - is kept like new.
  22. Hey wait! I'm still not getting over Tidal Wave leaving our park ... which became your Viper! Ha! But I'm glad you got to enjoy it down there, too. I was lucky to ride our old shuttle at Kentucky Kingdom; it was always a great idea to stop into KK for a dozen (or many more) rides on Greezed Lightnin'. It always made for a great pit stop on the way to or from the south, or Holiday World. What a bummer they tore it apart.
  23. Yeah, still a big deal and still "wild-N-smooth" in 97. I loved that ride. My next ride was years later and it wasn't the same. I skipped the GCI trains version a couple years ago. So much to do at that park!
  24. Stay away from eating in the park if you can. The food isn't good and it's expensive, but that isn't the big issue. The real problem is the super-slow, long and unorganized lines to get that food. They have one register at many stations that used to have 2 to 4 registers. Add to that they are constantly out of stuff (including ice, systematically every summer... I haven't gotten a drink at the park in years for that reason, and the lines). There is a Culvers my friends and I eat at, a few blocks from the park. Also, if you like Dairy Queen, but that is a couple miles away. And the trendy pizza place everyone mentions as well. Add to that the standard fast food places plus a Chipolte, across the highway around mall. Your stuff should be fine if you have a zipped pocket. You might put it all away out of view of a ride op. As far as the hat, it will vary depending on the ride op. Goliath and Raging Bull might just rip that hat out of your shirt. Have fun! Ride Whizzer in back at night! Demon 2nd to back seat (also at night!) and Eagle RED side, seat 1 or 3.
  25. ^I'm not the biggest RMC fan, but I would agree that RMC-ing Wildcat would give the park even more variety. But then again, I do remember how awesome Wildcat was in 1996/97. I just gave away a 1996 Hersheypark/Wildcat phonecard, that still had a couple dollars on it. If anyone remembers what a phone card was.
